Masterful Spy Series
9 November 2020
This show really gets to show you the kind of emotional compartmentalization that undercover agents must go through in order to do their job well. Each season is gripping with the exception of some unnecessary gratuitous violence with a dog in the first episode of season 2. Overall, it's a great basic look at how an intelligence organization works and what kinds of decisions need to be made and what kind of sacrifices. And as always, with the great game, so many sacrifices...

No Hassle, Enjoyable Series
14 August 2019
Easy to watch, with a pro cast, well-directed and shot, this mystery series is lightweight but fun. The editing could be tightened up a bit as the current pace is a bit too relaxed for murder but other than that it's an enjoyable way to pass the time on a hot summer's night. I'd be curious to see what a season 2 might bring...

Accountability and Moral Authority Personified
26 September 2015
This is one of the great films in the history of film making, not only for the tremendous lesson in how to live one's life with humility and sensitivity towards others but also for the towering performance of Alastair Sim which sets the bar by which all other performances of this play are measured. When I first saw it I was stunned when it was over, because it is the kind of film that creeps up on you, scene by scene, and accumulates its power slowly as the plot unfolds. The story line is timeless and totally à propos for today's selfish world. It's a must see for all History of Film classes and for Philosophy Ethics classes too but surprisingly few students today know about it. Alas.

Move On

The male lead is utterly wooden and the pace is tedious at best. In the plot development, ludicrous and foolish choices are often made by him and his wife that no one in their right mind would make and live to tell about it! Perhaps with a different male lead and better directing this could have gone somewhere but as it stands it is very disappointing. Given the quality of murder mysteries (Lewis, Wire in the Blood, etc) and spy stories that come out of the UK (MI-5 for ex) this show is almost amateurish. The technical details are fine--lighting, locations, camera-work but the director and editor should look for other work!
