Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (2019)
Movie vs Book
This movie version of the characters Nancy Drew and her aunt Hannah- very little like the original novel's versions.
In the movie, the Nancy character is obnoxious, spoiled and annoying.
In the book, the Nancy character is more likeable, good, and trust-worthy. Not just trying to be 'cool'.
The movie is too predicable and too cliche-y at times.
Skip this movie and read the book, ya'll.
The book is much better and more of a mystery.
The movie is also filled with stereotypical behavioral passages and not many innovative ones.
The book can be enjoyed by all age-groups, while the movie seems to be working hard to make sure only teens can enjoy it.
Bummer.
Family Law (2021)
Dislike
After watching about 1/2 of the first episode, I couldn't watch anymore. I found the leading lady (Abigail ) detestable. I couldn't stand her entitled, racist ways. She was just too over the top regarding trying to flaunt and compete, being disruptive disregarding established protocols. A bully. Doesn't seem to know how to join others at her office and be a team player. So what if her father left her, doesn't mean she has to be exceptionally rude to just about everyone she meets. I may check back in a few weeks to see if the writers have made any improvements toward making her more tolerable to be around...
Shark (2006)
Better Without Daughter
Watching this show for the first time. Not bad. But what will probably cause me to stop watching it soon (I'm on the 11th episode of the 1st season) is
his daughter. I cannot stand her.
Someone in a previous review said that she was 'a poor actress, the writing for her was poor, and the she was an over the top, annoying spoiled brat'. I'm gonna add whining, boring, irritating, etc.. Well, I think the message is understood.
I did not like her AT ALL. Every time the plot line was getting pretty interesting, here she would come with some stupid 'problem/situation' - at his office, even, interrupting him while he was working, I wish his wife would have gotten full custody of her in the show. Every time she appears (usually out of nowhere - 'poof' and there she is sitting in his chair in office, or where ever...) I fast forward the online video
I would have given it a higher rating had she not been in the show. It would have been a better 'grown-up show' without her.
Virgin River (2019)
Season 2's episodes toooo long
Season 2 went overboard with the dead husband & dead/stillborn baby theme. Could have been handled in 2-3 episodes, not the whole season.
Average, Hallmark-ish type series.
The Chair: Brilliant Mistake (2021)
Does Bill Remain throughout entire series...?
Just started to view the first episode for the first season and really liking it until Bill appeared on the scene and spoiled the entire first episode for me. Can't stand him. I doubt if I'll continue to finish the series if he's the same throughout the rest of the episodes.
Does he change to act more responsible, etc. Or does he die or is he obnoxious throughout the entire series?
Inquiring mind(s) want to know ... please.
Chicago P.D. (2014)
Hailey - NO!
Love this show.
Really miss Al, but Voight is still my favorite and Trudy and Atwater are my 2nd and 3rd favorites. The others are good executing the parts also, except Hailey.
Wish Hailey Upton, and her permanent smirk, would disappear from the show. Really enjoyed the scene in the episode 'Lines' when Voight 'told her off' for trying to be like him. She really gets on my nerves with her 1 or 2 facial expressions only, and her pretense to be concerned for the other detectives. Her acting like she has a relationship with Ruzek is a joke. She acts like she wants to take Voight's job ...please, I hope that never happens. If it does, I'm through with it. She as their leader? No way...
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Daughters (2019)
...and Don't Bring Back the Dead Wife either
I agree with Figaro32:
"Terrible writing and acting. Don't invite Fornel and his daughter back. And fire whoever wrote this."
and would like to add - Please don't bring back the dead, harpy ex-wife either.
Darrow & Darrow: Darrow & Darrow (2017)
Mother needs to go...
I enjoyed this TV movie (the plot, most of the characters, etc.) but could not stand the mother (JoAnna(?)) Worse mother and grandmother ever. During the middle and towards the end, I started fast forwarding whenever her face came of the screen. I must say, this is a different turn for a 'Hallmark' TV movie to have such a despicable character who, since not a hardened criminal or otherwise a 'bad guy or gal', should not be this way. Tom Cavanaugh is great in this movie!
Take Two (2018)
WORSE 'FLUFF' EVER!
I know this is supposed to be a 'fluff' piece of TV police procedural action program but, this is the worse show of any shows that I've ever seen in the past that were in the same category. I cannot stand the female actor-turned-PI. Terrible actress. Although she's actually 37 years old in real life, on this show, she's like an 'any age'- year old, obnoxious, annoying, self-centered, over-bearing child. Like a fly that you have to keep swatting away. Every time she opens her mouth (spewing out the usual cliches), I cringe. NOTHING like Castle or Bones. At least their 'side kicks' were intelligent/smart and had a maturity about themselves that made the chemistry between the 2 leads palatable (Bones & Booth, Beckett & Castle, etc.). I'd rather see a show with the same PI (Ciprian/Valetik) with the lady Detective Christine as the leads and that flighty , air-head (Bilson/Swift) as his receptionist or the medical examiner's assistant, or anything else - not the lead. Bilson's acting is forced and over the top. Not funny. Her 'comic timing' is off. His is OK. To me, it would be nice if there were spin-off(s) from Castle and/or Bones that will draw attention from this show so that it will fade into the sunset. American TV executives need to take lessons from Canadian and British shows like this one so that they can gain the necessary knowledge regarding how such shows SHOULD be created and shown. This show is pitiful. Or just show programs from past years (1980's, 1990's early 2000's) in this time slot, if you can't do better than this. I know it's not suppose to be a serious show, but it's not supposed to be a STUPID one either.
Nashville (2012)
Used to Really Like It...
...now Allanah and Jessie are ruining it for me. I dislike both of them very much in this show. I think they should be eliminated and some nicer, less manipulative, caring women should be added for Gunnar and Deacon.
For Avery, Juliette should get back with him. Even though she did not portray as a caring, nice wife, I still liked her and wish she would return to her husband and child. And, perhaps, Scarlett and Gunnar should get back together, too. As a matter of fact, I like all of the males (except Brad and Darius, of course), but none of the women, except Scarlett. Rayna's daughters are kinda getting on my nerves because of the way they treat Deacon. Other women who have lesser parts and who come and go throughout the series have not been likeable at all, to me. This show is not bad. The music is nice and the acting is very good. Certainly hope that all the loose ends get tied up at the end of this season since it is to be the last season. And that at least the lives of the majority of the stars end on a happy/satisfactory note.
Rise (2018)
NOT GOOD, SO FAR
Very trite, tired, boring, same-ol'- same ol' show/series. Very disappointing.
I dislike all of the parents of the main characters especially the fathers (the Coach, Robbie's, Simon's, and especially the main guy (Mazuchelli). Mazuchelli is the worse - when just acting in general and acting as a father.Tries to be 'nice' in a condescending type of way. I cringe each time he makes an appearance (which is a lot since he is the 'star').
The mothers aren't much better: neurotic, whiney, cry babies (except Robbie's sick mother - she's OK). Don't like Lilette's sluty mother either - always got a stupid half-grin on her face. ALL of the kids should be in therapy because of their horrible parents. None of the parents are on the 'same page' as their mates. Very disruptive.
Talent/singing no so hot, either. Just OK. So far, no one really stands out.
The plots are the usual stuff: dealing with alcoholic/druggy kid, gay kid(s?), indecisive jock, nice, smart, talented kid(s) with bad parent(s), etc..
Only cast members who are kinda likable and good with their parts : Rosie Perez as Tracey co-drama teacher, Harold the band teacher, and Masshous the lighting guy.
Hope it gets better or cancelled.
