Hellboy (2019)
It's missing, something
Harbour is pretty good, the script even has a few laughs but something's missing, the direction isn't great, the violence isn't that extreme (The Boys, is much gorier and awesome for it) but the movie seems to pause every time something bloody happens, almost like the director expects us to gasp in horror (you won't, it's tame) and takes just a couple of seconds too long each time to start the action again. Also none of the scare jumps worked for me, I didn't jump and wasn't surprised. There will be a sequel for this I'm assuming, I hope it's better
Archer: Archer: 1999 -- Robert De Niro (2019)
Golly, that was fun
I'm not reviewing the plot or covering anything, I laughed, I cried. It is my favourite episode of Archer, a great great ending of a great season.
Veep: Frozen Yoghurt (2012)
Iannucci's timing is amazing
Some don't rate this as strong as the original but after my fourth or fifth viewing, something clicked and I didn't just appreciate the strong writing and clever jokes. Armando's timing of each scene and the setup is just amazing and this episode should be shown in media courses as an example of perfect timing. It's almost my favourite episode of the entire series.
Jeremiah Johnson (1972)
Amazing movie, best meme ever
Ok, this is a great flick, watch it. But today the internet learnt that Robert Redford is the lumberjack meme guy and lost its mind. Get some culture into you kids
The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
Greatest first 14 minutes of movie ever made
I stopped watching just in case there was character development. When you have 9 abs and unlimited money, you don't need character development
The Orville: Lasting Impressions (2019)
Creepy plot line you could see from a mile away
Theres nothing new here again, had a few good weeks and now back to mindless tropes and cliches. Sigh
The Grand Tour: Aston, Astronauts and Angelina's Children (2019)
Self indulgent twaddle
Yes I'm sure James May likes astronauts but this episode comes across as a ratings grab for the Americans, maybe the viewer numbers are down there
The Orville: Identity (2019)
About time too :-)
Finally an episode with some meat to it, thank goodness for that as I'd had enough. Well written, typically acted by the cast and I've got a real interest in what will happen next.
The Orville: Deflectors (2019)
Is Bortus a executive producer now?
The first season was great, his lot has been worse than Days of our Lives, tired tropes and every episode fixated on Bortus (having human problems) rather than exploring new ideas which last year did. Maybe I'll try again next year if it gets renewed
Bumblebee (2018)
I'm sorry Bay, you suck
This is the sort of movie that the original cartoon series deserves, epic nods to the past amazing cartoonish CGI robots and characters with personalities. This was my favourite cartoon and movie in the mid to late eighties so I might be biased. This was so much fun
The Orville: Ja'loja (2018)
Mcfarlane indulging himself
I really enjoyed Season 1 (after a rocky start, the first couple of episodes were awful) I hope Season 2 picks up its game I can't imagine that there will be a Season 3
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Good, but not as good
If you liked the first one, you'll like this one, just not as much. Ignore the 1 star reviews by the amount of spelling mistakes in them and those that somehow think this movie is a liberal conspiracy, sheesh
Street Fighter (1994)
Early proof that movies shouldn't be based on computer games
That being said I found this movie again after playing 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon, and it reminded me how much I thoroughly enjoyed it at the cinema when it first came out.
Yes, it's awful and the acting, blah, blah, blah but the casting and visualisations of the characters was fantastic. My friends and I obsessively played these games on the Nintendo and ran to see it in the cinema and it was fun
3 thumbs up
The Big Bang Theory: The Procreation Calculation (2018)
Love the show hated this episode
Penny decides she doesn't want kids and everyone yells at her, drove me insane, not everyone wants them and they don't have to have them
The Meg (2018)
Giant shark? Yes please
Two things. 1 Silly action movies with over the top monsters are always fun
2 Bing bing's current destruction online by Chinese commentary for alleged tax evasion continues unhindered in this comment and review area. Check the syntax or filter out reviews below 3, if you like shark movies, watch it and judge it yourself
Skyscraper (2018)
I wish the reviews were moderated
The reviews above 7 and below 3 need to be reviewed and approved, everyone on the internet exaggerates for maximum effect and people think they need to love if they like and hate if they dislike. This is a fun, middle of the road action flick and in my book anything with The Rock gets a free pass and I'm pleased he's trying a slightly different role as the tortured hero
The Breaker Upperers (2018)
80 minutes of laughs
I saw this today and the awkwardness and inappropriateness is just right, genuinely cried with laughter a few times. Great movie and three thumbs up
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
At least it's much better than the last one
That isn't saying much though, that said...
It's a decent attempt at rebuilding the franchise but it's still a little long winded with a few unnecessary bits, the only thing that really offended me was the Suicide Squad bad guy scene, so clumsy. I think there's more things in it than I disliked and that's a win in my book
Rampage (2018)
Magical silliness
This is sort of movie I grew up on and I'm so glad that there's still money around to make a few of them still
It's worth it just for The Rock uttering the line "it's a big arm, don't fight it" :')
Pacific Rim Uprising (2018)
I loved the first one and this one was ok but...
Look it's fine and aimed at a teenage audience but it was missing something which can be compared to how the pilots interact with the Jaegers, in Del Toros movie they had an analogue connection to the giant robots, the way these actors interact is a digital system that isn't attached to the giant robots and that's what's missing the pilots move really fast but the Jaegers don't and neither should they because they're enormous awesome robots
Black Panther (2018)
i enjoyed it like I enjoy all Marvel movies
Ignore one and two star ratings, they're not honest reviews and in this world of "alternative facts" I'd expect nothing less, which is a shame
This wasn't a blockbuster and after Thor Ragnarok I was expecting too much. It's everything a superhero movie should be though, with cheesy dialogue and stereotyped characters, that's why I go to the movies to have a laugh and put my brain on hold for a few hours. Thanks Marvel I'm off to see Avengers now that I've watched every movie leading up to it
Archer: Danger Island: Strange Pilot (2018)
I like being dropped into a new adventure
This was great I had no idea what was going on :D Archer returns with another brand new story filled with mystery, alcohol and guns
