The Binge (2020)
If you like Vince Vaughn, SEE THIS.
Do not trust the 5.1 score. I'm honestly surprised this isn't at least a 7. Comedies are often not ranked high because not everybody has the same sense of humor. But even with that understanding, this one is way underated. I laughed out loud many times. A typical 5 movie is something I can't get past 5 minutes of. I'm glad I took a chance on this one.

Honest review
Had to leave a review given how many bad info reviews I read about this show. First, I didn't just scan a few episodes as some did. I watched all 10 episodes.
The dogs were ALWAYS safe and NEVER forced beyond their comfort level. Even the most PETA of PETA types should have zero complaints. It was very clear the show took safety very seriously.
Yes, many of the contestants had their own "my dog saved me" stories. But I'm betting most dog owners have those. Nothing felt fake or insincere. A few made my eyes start leaking.
The quick editing and slow-mo moments didn't bother me at all. It seemed very similar to shows like The Amazing Race or Survivor...professionally done and easy to follow.
Finding out that the show gave 250,000 to charities in the areas where they went and then gave another 250,000 to the winner to give to their chosen charity...made this show a must-watch for me. I hope they do more seasons. This is the kind of reality TV I can get behind.

Best Nat Geo has to offer
This show is amazing. If Nat Geo doesn't renew this (especially after where episode 8 left us) I could easily boycott their entire channel for the travesty. :) A show this good deserves many, many seasons.

Who's paying for good reviews?
Because it's pretty clear that anyone rating this a 10, like so many have, are getting paid to push this steamer.
If you're going to watch this, you'll have to suspend all logic to be able to make it 5 minutes without shaking your head. And I'm ok with suspending belief to be able to get into a movie but the logical disconnects here are ridiculous.
The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
A great movie stretched into a snooze fest
I can't deny everything said by the people who've rated this as a 10. What I can say is that this director put a lot of effort into the "drama" aspect of things. If, by "drama", you mean taking extended pauses between dialogs. At some times, so much so, that it is uncomfortable. I kept finding myself saying, "come on, I get the point, now get on with it". It's almost as if the director felt making a good movie required that it be 2 1/2 hours long. This movie definitely could have been reduced to 1 1/2 hours and wouldn't have lost a bit of quality. Now, the critics and the academy awards click will love this, but the average viewer will feel as I do. The movie has a great, albeit slightly predictable, plot. The acting is superb. The story itself is a great one. Had it moved at a comfortable pace, I would give it a 9. For now, it's off to go find some caffeine.
