The Old Guard (2020)

A total waste of time
11 July 2020
Cringe worthy. Nothing but old cliches of immortality themed action movies along the history of movie making. Charlize will want to forget this as it offers her most lackluster performance. Totally wooden. I haven't read the comics but if this is true to the comics than the comics is garbage as well. I am so desperately yearning for more original thought provoking sci-fi/fantasy but I am truly afraid that today we have forgotten to dream new dreams and can only rehash the precedent dreams and nightmares of others...

Pure genius
26 January 2020
The dismissive critics have no clue. This genius campy series discusses the issues of power and faith in the modern world of angst and loss and loneliness. The breakdown of modern society brought on by the rise of mass media and the utter ruthlessness of current world leaders reducing democracy to a sham is being ridiculed in an artistic manner. And where is god in all of that? That is the question all the characters struggle with. Brilliant dialogues. A must watch must ask yourself questions type of series... P.s... Had to add. Just finished episode 9. So many emotional moments during the last 3 episodes. The series is truly a work of love for belief and man and god. It doesn't need to im be reverent to truly reflect the positive elements of belief and being human. Almost to the contrary - using human frailty, vice and stupidity it is a celebration of what being human is all about and if i were the Catholic Church this would be the best promotion ever

The real superhero
21 September 2019
The documentary is a love story, but even so one can't feel anything but awe. Even in a cynical world such as ours has become the transformation of Bill Gates, his growing up, through the hubris of youth into the maturity of the philantropist he has become is both heart warming and inspiring. The man who wanted to rule and change the world has become the man who wants to better and save it. That is true life superhero material and given his phenomenal characterstics which are his superpowers...i am impressed. But the inspiration goes beyond. We are not all Bill Gates, neither in character nor means but we can all use our specific characteristics and skills to fight for a better world. Bill Gates accomplishes a feat of no little means through his participation in this project. He inspires. Thank you Bill Gates for being here. The documentary is not perfect. The back and forth leaps through time and focus can be distracting but I can understand the artistic choice in that. All in all highly interesting...and have I mentioned inspiring?...

Boring
20 September 2019
I wanted to like it but couldn't. Perhaps we've gotten used to deeper character development. The too short story span makes the format a flop when examined in comparison with series such as true detective. The episodes feel overall like deus ex machina solutions and more like specialty ads for police recruitement agencies. Absolutely no emotional impact...

what a loss of time watching this
17 December 2015
I think that's the first review I've written on IMDb. But this review needs writing. I have never been an avid fan of the series but I highly appreciate the first trilogy for the characters and the plot and the artistic aspects. Even the second trilogy has its merits. But this? Total lack of imagination in remaking the plot of the original Star Wars film, badly written dialogue, poor characters. The whole affair seemed more like a cameo event for old movie stars... No one deserves to watch this movie. It's so boring you may fall asleep. The sad part is that it could have been the opportunity to create something new and original, much as batman was reinvented by Christopher Nolan and James bond by Sam Mendez. Another sad result is that it blemishes the entire franchise.

Don't go if you wish to remember star wars for its qualities.
