C*A*U*G*H*T (2023)
Embarrassing For All Concerned
Caught is about as funny as a case of Covid-19. It's badly acted, badly written and generally embarrassing for everyone involved. It's like a show that might have been made for Australian FTA TV in the 1970s or 1980s. I can't believe anyone over the age of 15 would find it even slightly amusing. How this got greenlit for a full series is beyond me. Sean Penn must have been suffering from a head injury to think appearing in this show was good idea. However much he was paid was not even close to enough - how much money is worth destroying your career for?
The four Australian soldiers captured by the rebels that forms the basis of Caught are only surpassed in their puppy-like stupidity and leaden acting by the two American soldiers imprisoned with them.
Avoid this nonsense at all costs.
Deadloch (2023)
A Disappointing Mess
II was looking forward to this series as I'm a big fan of the two Kates' previous work, but based on the first two episodes I cannot recommend this unfunny, over acted, mess of a show. The 'jokes' nearly all fall flatter than a pancake, the acting is frequently cringeworthy and it's all pretty embarrassing unfortunately. Kate Box does the best she can with what little she has to work with, but faced with the tornado of hamminess that is Madeline Sami's truly execrable Eddie Redcliffe character she has no hope of salvaging this production.
On the other hand, if you suffer from insomnia Deadloch might be just the thing to put you to sleep.
