Kung Fu Dino Posse (2009)
Hilarious...
You can't take this show seriously...and you're not meant to. It's sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek humor. Great for little kids, great for adults, just plain great. One of my all time favorites. This is a show about resurrected dinosaurs who know English and Kung Fu...somehow. They fight the bad dinos who are trying to create monster dinos out of prehistoric crystals that are found one or two per show. It won't disappoint.
Residue (2015)
Where's the end?
I was hooked...and then it was over? I didn't read ahead to realize there was only THREE episodes. There is no ending, which is a huge drawback. This was an amazing storyline with incredible special effects and great acting. If anything should've been given a full season (and maybe a second) it was this gem. Watch it once, wonder why the production company would think this is a good way of doing things, and then move on.
Man of Steel (2013)
Can't we make a superhero without a tortured soul?
Who is the guy who directed this film? I mean, seriously. I wasn't fifteen minutes into the film and I had five or more "HUH?" moments. From simple things like "Why couldn't they put a cloth around their baby instead of giving us a full frontal nudity shot of the kid?" to "Why in the world would they have a monkey skull hidden under their city?" to "Their world is dying but they have time to put General Zod and his people on trial and put them in cryo-stasis?" to "I thought Jor-El said there wasn't time to evacuate the planet but they have time to get the BAD GUY off the planet????" Badly done rendition of Superman that depended on special effects more than good story telling. I know Christopher Reeve's movies were hokey, but this was definitely not the direction to go in. Oh, and let's not forget the little detail of Superman killing the bad guy in the end. Which isn't like Superman. At all. At least be true to the character.
After Earth (2013)
Might be worth watching. Once.
A film that could have been promising, which ends up having three major problems.
The first problem with this movie is that it's boring. Will Smith, who is capable of such incredible emotional displays like we saw in I Am Legend, now has to display exactly zero emotion, and little acting skill. Without getting into detail, long stretches of the film present us with nothing of interest.
The next problem with the movie is that it makes no sense. **SPOILER ALERT** They land on the planet Earth far in the future, but can't breathe the atmosphere without help. That would mean a lack of oxygen in the air. Then how are the other animals on the planet breathing? How does Jaden Smith's character start a fire? What are the luxurious trees and plants providing the atmosphere???
The third problem (and there are others, but let's stick with these three) is that the title has nothing to do with the movie. ***SPOILER ALERT*** After Earth would imply that the movie cares about what happened to Earth, or what will happen to Earth, and that the Earth will be a major component of the storyline. It isn't. The planet is a backdrop to an accidental crash landing, and no further thought is given to it.
M. Night Shyamalan will always remain one of my favorite directors, for his earlier works. He just can't seem to get out of his own shadow with his current movies, however. I didn't know he directed this one until the end credits, but by then it didn't really surprise me.
Watch it once, but don't expect too much.
