Der Baader Meinhof Komplex (2008)
this is neither a documentary nor a classic action movie
first of all: this movie is really touching. It is not a documentary. Don't expect a history lesson. The movie does not explain enough of the backgrounds or provides a specific message. It lets the images speak and lets the audience decide what conclusions to take out of the 2.5 hrs playtime. Integrating a lot of real contemporary document of a lot other incidents during the time the movie is set gives a good feeling about what was on in the 1970ies concerning activities the 1st generation on RAF. Once again: this is not a history lesson. The movies just gives you reminders of what was happening in the rest of the world. You need to know what was behind the reminders. The movie gives no message with wagging forefinger. It lets the actors behaving and some gross images speak for themselves. That worked fine for me and the rest of the audience. After the movie no one stood up while the credits and there was no happy bubbling in front of the cinema. To be honest the was no talking at all...
There are some aspects of the movie that need to be known: - like I said before - this is not a history lesson you need to have some background knowledge. - this is not a movie about RAF, but about the founders. Of course the RAF 1st gen. plays a huge role. - after the Baader, Meinhof et al. got arrested the movie becomes a prison drama, 2nd and 3rd gen. RAF activities are just mentioned if they are in relation to the imprisoned 1st gen. RAF members. - 2.5 hrs. are just not enough time to illuminate even all aspects of the 1st gen. of RAF.

Entertaining Movie
Just returned from the cinema with a slight smile on my face. I was surprised of this movie, because I didn't expect much especially I don't think of Till Schwaiger being a good actor.
The acting of the main characters are solid but not outstanding. Till Schwaiger should train his voice because most times you can't understand a word because of his mumbling.
To be honest I must admit that I just went to see this movie because of Nora Tschirner. She played a role in a TV Series that I kinda liked.
The story had some good laughs - more than I did expect from a romantic comedy. In the end it gets kinda romantic as it should be and the happy end is preassigned. But thats how it should be like :-).
I am no huge friend of that genre, but I was well entertained and not bored during the 115 minutes. Even boys who are more comfortable with the action / horror genre and have a girlfriend go and watch the movie. For all the heard-break stuff you get Nora nude *lol*.
Let me have a word about the nude-scenes: they seemed to be designed just to get some men seeing the movie. They did not really fit into the story and they could have easily been left out. There was no need to have Nora that often naked apart from the scene on the toilet what was really funny and was good for a good laugh. ...and that out of the mouth of a man that is not gay *lol* *shamed*.
Anyway: to sum it up I enjoyed the movie :-)
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Nice, but...
I just came out of cinema watching this movie with a couple of friends. My feelings about that movie are some kind of divided.
One the one hand I expected some kind of stunning zombie-movie, but the zombie-factor isn't that huge. Like "28 days later" there are a lot of passages where no zombie appears at all. 28 days later is some kind of road movie in the middle.
28 weeks later is more thriller than splatter movie. Of course there is zombie-action, but - and there the movie lost some of it's stars in my rating - the shaking camera is so bumpy that you can hardly see anything. With might work for some movies - like Blair Witch - and might be an interesting thrilling element it did not work for this movie. It is uses too often to work like it is meant to.
The set is made well and looks quite realistic (don't know how much CGI is used - and that's a good sign that it is working well *g*).
I give a good 6 and I am sure that I will re-rate when DVD-Release is out and I can watch it again on a "good" screen *heh*
Highlander: Endgame (2000)
its is better than 2 and 3 ... nothing tops 1 ;)
Highlander 4 is what Highlander 2 should have been. It tries in its directing, its landscape-shots, its massive past scenes and so on to be like the first Highlander.
The storyline playing "now" is not to discussed. It is for me being a huge fan of Highlander and liked the TV-show how the TV-Show-Characters are integrated to the "big"-screen-storyline. It worked quite well. At least - gunfights of immortals takes getting used to me :/.
Its a big reunion of TV-Characters and Movie-Characters. Btw.: you need to see at least some TV-Episodes and the first Highlander to follow the plot a bit. Newbies to the Highlander-Thing won't be able to get a bit of the plot line and characters, because the movie assumes that you already know them.
For others: go and see it :)
The movie is about 90 min long and kinda hurries through the plot. Characters are not well drawn etc. another 10 - 15 minutes might have been giving the movie a better chance to get a little deeper into the characters and give the movie more depth.
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
it was over too soon :( - but time it ran it was gorgeous
I loved that movie, because a bunch of characters got introduced I really loved in the X-Men comics. For sure: there can't be all of them in 3 movies *heh* I was disappointed about Nightcrawler being missing.
And the movie was a rush... why Spider-man takes 2 1/2 hr, but X-Men III only takes 1 1/2 hr ?
But now to the good ... no the best : PHOENIX ! That was such a cool and stunning character and the director ports it superb to the big screen. Some characters death came so unexpected, because of the enormous powers of Phoenix. STUNNING! And a good advice: stay till the end ! Maybe there is hope for a part IV ?
Hostel (2005)
great special effects - but not thrilling enough for a good horror movie
I watched this movie lat Friday at a smaller cinema with a - lets call it suboptimal (means decent) - screen. With about 20 other persons in the whole cinema (Hostel started here just 2 1/2 weeks ago!)
story / plot: there is basically none ;-). But hey: it's a horror flick! What do you expect ?! It is as good as other so called stories of that kinda movies. In one sentence: 3 guys (2 from USA) backpack through Europe, get in some trouble (not real trouble) in Amsterdam (Netherlands), hear from Saviour that in a Slovenian city all girls are horny top models *gg*, step in the trap and get slashed by peeps that pay for it.
camera: solid, but nothing special - I expected more of that.
thrill: to me - none. There are no scary moments. But one person left the movie right after the first violent scene. Maybe she should have been watching Cold Back Mountain or so.
blood / gore: much in the second part of the movie. Explicitly shown. Some people might not feel well after that, but it all feels a little misplaced to me. There was nothing really shocking about that, because the whole thrill was missing. The Japanese woman that left the eye is jumping around the next scene like nothing happened - wtf was that ?
Sex: Sex and horror ? There has always been kinda relation, but this movie carries sex to extremes ... during the first half of the movie I sometimes thought I am watching kinda cheep (soft-) sex flick and not a horror movie... nothing stimulating even if the main female characters are kinda hot (I have to admit). Especially the sauna-scene. That was so cheep I cought myself rolling eyes red-handed and grunted 'oh no'.
Entertainment: the movie was kinda entertaining. Otherwise the movie would not pass that quick. But I think it depends on expectance of something big to happen - but it didn't. Don't get me wrong. The movie had some special moments that were quite cool and scenes that where kinda entertaining.
I gave 4/10 because of realistic (I think - how should I ?!) illustration of violence and a real hot female character (otherwise it might have been 3 points, but who knows?). But somehow the movie made time pass fast, maybe because of unfulfilled expectations. Who knows.
Goodfellas (1990)
intense movie
30 yrs in the history of a mafia-career of one man (and his wife).
A bunch of stars in one movie about a so called mafia family. Does this work ?
Yes it does !
It's very intense and shows between the lines the every day life of being in the "familia" with all its (dis-)advantages. Especially if things fall apart...
The part I liked most is if the movie switches to female as the narrator. The most intensive part is during the seventies when drugs come into play.
watch it and be stunned for hours.
(T)Raumschiff Surprise - Periode 1 (2004)
good movie
being a little doubtful after watching the first movie (Der Schuh des Manitu (DSDM)) by Herbig that was major success in Germany, I have to say that this movie really surprised me. The joke are more intelligent than in DSDM, the production itself was bigger (of course, bc DSDM was a low-budged production) and the slapstick factor was less than in DSDM that touched my kind of humor more than DSDM. Good jokes on star wars and great FX!
I really enjoyed the ~90minutes. Go to the cinema and see yourself it is really worth it.
