Daddy's Home (2015)
7/10
sweet and kinda satirical movie....
6 January 2016
I am reviewing this film after seeing this on a January afternoon with the kids. I must admit I normally don't really like comedy. It is my least favorite genre next to romantic films However I found this to be quite enjoyable and entertaining. As I said I am not a comedy fan and if there are any comedies I do like I prefer the dark comedy or satirical and life like/observational comedy. I have never seen a Will Ferrel movie and had reservations. I do remember Mark Wahlberg ( and brother Donnie) from old days of pop music, so I didn't really expect much from him either. But i was pleasantly surprised on both counts. They actors did a good job and raised a lot of common points. Absent father vs dead beat dad back on the scene. I would give this movie a 7. Good afternoon movie for the family.

Suspects: Alone (2014)
Season 1, Episode 1
8/10
U.K. crime drama- original and effective!
13 February 2014
This is a new crime drama with Fay Ripley along with two new comers acting along side as police detectives. The style of the programme is some what modern and the use of hand hold cameras and natural acting is quite effective. In this, The first of the episodes, A toddler goes missing. Her parents are interviewed along with her brother. As with all child disappearances every one is a suspect and time is running short! Other suspects are in the frame, including the grandmother and a local shop worker, who was a convicted child killer as a teenager. Is it an open and shut case of kidnap or is something darker a foot?

I give this first episode and 8 out 10. Found it interesting and was thoroughly engrossed in the story!

Compliance (2012)
9/10
People are sheep
25 August 2013
I heard about the release of this film just before it was released at the cinema. I didn't catch it at the cinema so I pre ordered the DVD. The reason I had great interest in the subject is partly due to the fact I have seen the law and order svu episode with Robin Williams in it. (This was based on the same story and Robin was brilliant as ever ) along with the fact I have a fascination with humanity and how people react in certain situations. When I first heard about the synopsis for the movie I remembered the by stander theory that I learned about in psychology. It is a similar human reaction and I then discovered the miligram experiment - theory which is what the film claims to be about. As I said I bought the DVD the day it was released and Sat down to watch it. I noticed several things, that the main role was with a very normal looking actor who you learned about quite quickly, she was middle aged, engaged and working in a fast food joint. She had just had a really bad time of it. There was a problem with one of the employees who didn't close the fridge door and a lot of produce had been lost. She would be responsible and clearly worried about this and so would be only too eager to make up for her mistake. Next we are introduced to the other actors in the picture. Dreama walker being Becky, the film would be focused around the two women with others coming on. I am sure by now you all know that the film is about a series of hoax calls in USA and how compliance can work when someone in authority tells them what to do. Will they do it? Will they ask too many questions? As the film went on It became more and more difficult to watch. A lot of parts were only hinted at but the use of symbolism and Dreama Walker as Becky's reactions paint the dark story. The certain part that was most disturbing and stick in your mind are the scenes with Anne dowd's on screen fiancé. It also makes you wonder is this part really about compliance at all or just a good excuse for one human being to use another. I give this film a 9/10 score due to the fascinating topic and acting that could not be topped. Not for the faint hearted but not for people who want guns blazing all in action type film. It is a watching and waiting type film.... SUPERB!

The Unborn (2009)

not bad. I am not just looking for someone in underwear either... gee sh!!
3 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad film. Great 'jumps'- decent grim moments and a pretty good story line. Basically it is about a female who finds the child she is baby sitting is rather 'evil' when finding him shining a mirror in his baby brother's face. After this and some other odd moments She begins to seek what it is that is happening to her. Unlike an awful lot of the reviewers on this board I am not going to go on like a teenage boy on Viagra about her underwear. Get over it boys! So what!!! N.B Just a quick post script-note This film kind of Reminded me a bit of 'Joshua' and wonder if this is a bit of a take off on it. Anyone else notice the similarity?

Moving On: I am Darleen Fyles (2010)
Season 2, Episode 10
10/10
objective interesting and emotional episode
29 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely epic episode of Moving on. Lorraine Ashbourne appears as Darlene's mother. Darlene has a learning disability along with a personality disorder that makes it difficult for her to function socially. She has a fixation with dvds on police and hospital dramas and her latest fad includes repeatedly calling the emergency services for attention in a bid to feel more secure and looked after. Darlene meets an older lady through her boyfriend James - A social enept youngster, himself fixated on James Bond. The two women forge a friendship and end up helping each other find their way with their prospective families. This episode was dealt with sensitively, Seeing the subject objectively but still emotionally. I enjoyed it thoroughly - Finding it accurate and true to life...

Unforgiven (2009)

drama, tense in parts, excellent acting...
11 February 2013
excellent casting in this revenge crime ex prison ( yep multi genre ) drama. Suranne Jones wonderful as ever, simple loving and maligned young woman just released from prison for double police murder. Peter Davidson Plays sympathetic legal eagle willing to help her find her sister, after fifteen years apart. Plenty of back ground story from family of the victims and a twist in the tale to boot. Awfully tense in parts, touching in others, Suranne plays vulnerable yet with seemingly hard exterior. A thirty year old who has had little experience in an adult world since she had been locked up since she was a minor. We see in the character how she is still very child like and delicate despite spending fifteen years in prison and the reasons behind the madness that caused the actions that put her there in the first place... Interesting story I give it a seven out of ten. Suranne is always very watchable...

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Faith (2002)
Season 1, Episode 21

really interesting - great start to series! night listener vs law and order
6 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I am a massive fan of all the law and order franchises and when I heard there was an episode with the story of my fav robin williams film with it I knew I would be on for a winner! This, of course was based on the story of the night listener. In itself it was also based on a true story of a child who writes a book and funds in on plenty of contributions from fans basically. A famous writer is intrigued by the child, speaks to them on the phone but gets increasingly frustrated when he can not meet the child. It transpires the child does not exist and it's all a scam. Of course it is a lot deeper than that and I wont give away the WHOLE story but this is definitely worth watching!
