The Veil: The Cottage (2024)
It's a shame that very good actors talents are wasted on this spy story!
Elizabeth Moss is one of my favorite actors. But, she is not a good match for this character and story! The story from the first episode was not believable and kind of silly. It was if it was rushed together on a slow week or weekend. Spy thrillers need to have some elements that allow for suspension of reality so the viewer can get lost in the intrigue. There is nothing here that isn't predictable as far as the plot and characters are concerned.
I will say that the direction in episodes 4-6 is excellent! Damian Thomas is a talented director.
Overall, I enjoyed the actors but was disappointed with the story and premise of show. It's tired and predictable doesn't do justice to the actors involved.
Jane Eyre (1997)
Love will prevail even though great tragedy
Love will prevail even though great tragedy Well acted and filmed rendition of the famous book.
We find Jane Eyre orphaned and mistreated try to survive the cruel home in which she has been placed. Being a survivor Jane learns her lessons well and sets out to make her way in the world. She becomes a governess to a wealthy man and intrigue throws them into each other's arms. Only to be separated by tragedy and deception. But, fate pulls them back together and all is well. It drags in some places but the performances carry it through. Samantha Morton is incredible in the role of Jane Eyre. Her acting alone is worth watching this version.
Black Bird (2022)
I don't know what you're smoking?
Generally, I am very generous with writing reviews. But, this is exceptionally bad. The script appears to be written by a high school student doing a final project. The dialogue is SO bad! Acting isn't much better. No tension, everything is predictable and who has a haircut like the main character in prison. The casting is all wrong. There should have been more gritty characters playing the lead roles. I'm sorry for the actors 😢
If you want to see a prison film please watch "Time " staring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.
In from the Cold (2022)
Lack of imagination
Hollywood hack attempts to steal from "killing Eve" . I feel bad for the actors.. But, don't waste your time .
Plot is uninspired at best and sometimes stupid. The dialogue is like a bad student essay. Pass this by!
Invasion: Contact (2021)
Golshifteh Farahani gives a superb performance!
Especially in this episode Golshifteh Farahani gives a riveting performance that holds you on the the edge of your seat. In a series that can be sometimes slow and self indulgent, it is refreshing to see some really good acting. If you can hang on until the aliens finally make an appearance you will be rewarded with some very good story telling.
Homeland: Marine One (2011)
Claire Dianes is totally worth watching this episode and series!
The story is good, even very good. But, Claire Daines is no less than amazing! This is a 9:5 easily.
Ava (2020)
Great actors forced to speak ridiculous dialogue!
Unfortunately, it's a typical American formula of high body count and stereotypes. I feel for the actors that had to reduce their integrity (otherwise in excellent acting performances) to play roles that are beneath them. It's sad, maybe Hollywood needs to learn from the UK , Canada and France on how to make a good movie. Very disappointing.
The Flight Attendant: Funeralia (2020)
The writers really bombed!
The actors tried to pull it off but the writing is juvenile. It's like a movie for high school or college students. Sorry, it's the truth. 5 stars because of the actors efforts.
The Vow: The Science of Joy (2020)
Average
Why are Americans SO drawn to cults? This is my question and my review!
