13 Going on 30 (2004)
Bored going on border
Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner) is like any other teenager. She is eager to be the most popular girl in school, loves the most popular guy and fails to notice that the person who is her 'soul mate' is her best friend.
Jenna makes a wish, on her birthday party, to be thirty and of course it comes true. Then she learns a few lessons, and the predictable plot has a even more predictable ending.
I personally thought that the movie was dull, to say the least. After a few minutes into it I wished I had gone to see another film. It was so predictable and was not very funny
After eating all my popcorn i became even more restless, which is not like me. With nothing else to do i was force to watch it, give my full attention to the film.
Even though I have nothing good to say about the film, i did like the sound track. Finally the credits appeared and i knew it was over.
Although a little perverted if you think about it she is still a kid just in a thirty year old's body,it maybe enjoyed by a younger audience, thirteen or younger.
This was not really what i would call i 'good' film and i would suggest you give it a miss or save it for when it comes out on video.
Van Helsing (2004)
Endless, non stop action
The action pact, adventure by Stephen Summers was to me corny' and just two much action! Van Helsing is a man who is seen as some as a murderer and others a hero. His job is to kill creatures which are not real'. He has been sent to kill Dracula and learns many things including that some creature are not evil. I thought the storyline was bad, I think you could have made a 10 minute long film with it but they added in endless action to make it over two hours long. The special effects I thought were quite good but I go bored of them after about an hour. I found it predictable; I felt they could have done better. Kate Beckinsale I think did a good job I think she is a very good actor but unfortunately is in some very corny' films like Pearl Harbor'. So if you like non stop action films with hardly any plot then I think this is for you. Otherwise there are always films like underworld' and dawn of the dead' which have plenty of action but decent plots to.
Thunderpants (2002)
Original but awful movie
I thought the message of the whole movie was surprisingly good but I thought the film wasn't good. Rupert Grint proved, once again that he can be a comedian; it would be nice to see him in a role where he had to be serious. I thought the whole thing was awful. Maybe children age under 12 might like it but I thought it was stupid basically. I cringe when people make films like that, they are just bad. Although the film was bad in general I thought the acting was decent and the general message was good. Very occasionally it was funny. It was over the top and totally unrealistic which I like. I love films which dare to be different and don't follow the crown. It was original which was good. Although I have many good things to say about it I didn't enjoy it and I would not recommend it to anyone.
50 First Dates (2004)
A seven out of ten
I was really looking forward to seeing 50 First Dates. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are both very talented actors. The storyline was good but I lost interest towards the end. At the beginning I found it funny and enjoyed it a lot. The acting was superb and I was surprised to see Sean Astin (Sam, Lord of the rings) in it as I have not seen him in anything but Lord of the rings. I found it funny but it was nothing compared to other Romantic Comedies I have seen like Never been Kissed. I love the scenery and thought the location they choose was great. Even though I got bored towards the end I did love the ending. I liked it because it wasn't that 'lovey dovey', it was more realistic. All in all I thought it was funny at parts a bit boring towards the end but had a great ending.
Big Fish (2003)
One word Brilliant!
I was so happy when I saw this film advertised. I love Tim Burtons work and was really looking forward to it. I entered the cinema expecting to see a funny and happy movie I did not expect to be in tears by the end! But it was one of the best films I've seen this year. I love the fact that in was fiction and non fiction. Was Ed Bloom lying or just bending the truth? I enjoyed the fact that it gave you a chance to use your own mind; the storyline is not just laid out in front of you. You have to work some things out yourself. It is enjoyable, entertaining and humorous at the same time. So if you're looking for a film that the whole family can enjoy then this is it!
Donnie Darko (2001)
Amazing and great movie
Have you ever watched a movie and felt totally confused afterwards? Donnie Darko was an amazing movie directed by Richard Kelly. I left the movie feeling not only confused but sort of wiser. It gave you a view in to the 'unexplainable' and lets your imagination go wild. Jake gyllenhaal was amazing, his acting skills are great. Donnie Darko is the kind of movie which is hard to explain or put in a category. It stands out for its originality. It's physiological and makes you think. I love movies like this, a film like this, but not as good, is 'the Others'. The filming was great. I love the scenes at the beginning and end where it zooms around everyone's lives and the school. I also fell in love with the music in it; the song 'Mad world' by Gary Juels was the best and really added to the ending. The ending made me cry but then I cry easily in films. If you want to see a film where you will feel so many different emotions in 113 minutes then this is the film for you. Let your imagination run riot!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
A magical Adventure?
I first saw this film when I was eleven I instantly fell in love with it. For me it was the most magical, exciting thing I had ever seen. I instantly felt as if magic was real. I had never read a single Harry Potter book before so the whole thing was totally new to me. But now I have watched it again it doesn't feel the same, I have grown up and the magic has gone. I think the actors they chose where okay. For an 11 year old ,I think Daniel Radcliffe did a superb job of being Harry Potter. I am not to keen on Chris Columbus and I'm glad that some one else is doing the Prisoner of Azkaban. I think the fact that the story was so close to the book was great, I love it when writers really take a good role in turning there books into movies. Even though J.K Rowling didn't write the script she has remained a big part in the making of the Harry Potter movies, which I think is an added bonus. I think the film is enjoyable for all ages but I think child under twelve will benefit the most from it, as the magic is much more real for them.
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
A unique storyline but a bit to violent
!Spoiler!
You just have to laugh when half way through what you think is a gangster movie they start fighting vampires! I enjoyed it loads. I thought the acting was great and some of the lines where funny. Originality is important to me. I love films which are unique so I loved this movie. It is a bit bloody though and some of the scenes left me half viewing them from between my fingers it was so gory. George Clooney was very good and was funny at times. And the special effects where okay. I got really confused when they suddenly started to fight vampires but I thought it was a nice twist. I think that the fact that they made a second one was awful it was totally rubbish compared to the first one. So if you like movies which are totally unique and violent then this is for you because it actually as a descent storyline. Just watch the second one.
Holes (2003)
A truely great story
I adored this movie! I thought the actors/actresses they choose where great. I thought Shia Labeof did a great Job. I've see him before on Even Stevens and i think his acting skills have improved greatly. i thought the story line was brilliant and was good for all the family. My 4 year old sister loved it nearly as much as i did! I also loved their choice in music ,I thought it went really well with the film. the fact that they constructed the set to look like you imagine it to be from the book was excellent. It was funny and sad at parts but had a happy ending which was great ,i thought for this movie. I was so please when i saw it i fell in love with it and now have it on DVD so i can watch it all the time!!!
