My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)
Everyone is hard to like
Julia roberts character is the biggest "pick me, choose me" - lady I've seen in this film. She's after a guy she supposedly loves so much but didn't think to tell him this in the nine years she knew him before he suddenly is getting married? She's so extremely self centred and honestly mean. She comes on to Dermots little brother who looks like a child, acting really creepy. Makes her stereotypically "gay best friend" act like her boyfriend to make dermot jealous. Dermot surely isn't any better. Wants to marry a 20 year old and forces her to give up her whole carrer, dropping out of college, moving away from her family. He constantly gives Julia comments on how good she looks right in front of his fiancée. How anyone would ever even be friends with any of these people I can't say. They seen down right horrible.
The saving grace is Cameron Diaz and "gay best friend". Great actors and the characters are the only ones with a good personality. Dermot just makes it seem like he took the part for money and is not doing a good job honestly. Loved him in new girl but here he is just flat and boring.

Bad reviews from people not using their own brain
Me and my sister decided to watch this even though we saw it only had a 4,7 grade. We figured it was people who wanted jump scare, gory, no thinking required horror movies who've made the bad grade. We were right. Every bad review talk about it "not being horror" and "Netflix put this as a horror movie", maybe they did, but is that really a good reason to give a 1 star rating? It is more psychological, it's a story about generational trauma.
Some also give bad reviews for Sandra Oh being in frame "too much", like she isn't the main character....she did a fantastic job. If you don't like her, you don't. But she is a great actress.
All in all, the negative reviews are written by people who don't like to have to think or feel things when watching movies. I'm really glad I gave it a chance because I really liked it.

Great idea
I was enticed from the "mystery/drama/sci-fi" but unfortunately it was a fair bit more romance than all the above. Many loose threads not being tied up, I'm left with many questions, but not in a good way. It didn't make me question reality (which I think is the "good way") but instead made me question the plot and some small details that doesn't really go anywhere, maybe they had a thought with some of them but it didnt make the Final Cut, anyway it kind of bothered me.
Overall I think that the idea is great, it could have been so much better if they put the focus on the "mystery" part instead of the relationships, in my opinion. Hopefully everyone isn't such a hater and a cynic as me though, and might like this movie.
Malignant (2021)
Downright bad
The music choices were bad. The acting was bad. The idea was bad. The dr's accent was horrid. Some people said that it was good bc it wasn't predictable...it was VERY predictable. They just threw logic and thought out the window and had fun I think. Sure, it was entertaining. But in a way like the room is entertaining. We laughed mostly because of the bad acting or horrible dialogue. The only good actor in the whole movie was honestly the girl playing young maddie.
It would take a lot for this idea to leave the table of not for James wan having made a name for himself. I honestly wonder if the good reviews are from people thinking that he is a well known director, therefore his movies must be well made.
The Sinner: Part III (2020)
Not at all as good as past series
Past series have been focusing on how trauma effects people and this series is just a big psychopath show. I hate the dude. He thinks he is so smart and talented and original but he's just really psychotic and rude and entitled.
Greenland (2020)
Extremely American
Unfortunately everyone turns into psychopaths. It would be nice with movies about the apocalypse where people help each other. Maybe in a different country than the us?
Brazen (2022)
Tried really hard to watch it
I just wanted to watch an easy movie with a plot. This had no plot. I tried so hard but I could only watch for 20 minutes. Had to change movies. The acting is horrendous. The plot is whack. It's so strange because the book is fine. Really.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
A porno with sims 2 music
I really like the first movie. But this second one is very confusing and focuses very much on relationships and they're really strange? Neo being extremely invested in his relationship with trinity, but not in an adult way at all. They all act like sex crazed 16-year olds. Also have the emotional maturity of 16-year olds. Matrix 2 is like a totally different movie than matrix 1, if the actors weren't the same I'm not even sure anyone would have linked them. I still like the idea behind this franchise tho. And I hope that matrix 4 is more like the 1st movie than the second and third.
Dune (2021)
SEE IT!!
- BEFORE U READ: I saw the movie knowing nothing about it, who was in it or even having seen the trailer and I was blown away so maybe don't read this before u watch it, just go see it - (also English is my 3rd language)
This movie has all the potential to be a solid classic. Up there with Star Wars. Not even joking, I love Star Wars and I thought this was in the same league. The actors do a fantastic job, and I'm not usually the biggest fan of thimote chalamet (?)
I really really hope there will be a part two, and I know this will be decided by watching how much money it makes at the movies so if you have the chance or opportunity to watch it at the cinema PLEASE DO. It's easily worth the money. I'm really glad I did, because it makes it good on a big screen with good sound. I have adhd and I was entertained throughout the entire movie (2h37m) and that's...an accomplishment. To say the least. I didn't even finish my popcorn. AND I SHARED IT WITH MY SISTER. Seriously this movie was so good I don't know how to describe it better. If you love fantasy/sci-fi PLEASE go see it. You will NOT be disappointed.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
Loved it
Good casting, good acting, funny but a bit sad. I really loved it! Nice to see a movie that's regularly done with men made with women. Also funny that the ladies rocked and the men were fudging bad. U know like irl.
The Block Island Sound (2020)
Really good comedy/horror/sci-fi
FUN STUFF. Laughed a lot. Hilarious deliveries. Watch it. I was very enjoyed.
Our House (2018)
Really suspenseful indie horror!
This movie isn't like any other Hollywood horror. There are no expensive effects or slasher or gore things. Just a creepy feeling and a good story. It was very retro in how the movie was built up, but also with the music and the filming. Really beautifully filmed and the actors are great. Mann is amazing in this role, I loved him already in Me and Earl and the dying girl. The young girl playing becca is also fantastic. She's so young but already such a brilliant actor! I didn't expect much from this movie, but I put it on and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and the story. It's a solid story and it's a creepy movie. I kind of like the fact that the scary bits weren't so over the top as they are in more box office style movies.
Really good movie! Def worth a watch!
Chernobyl (2021)
Dont listen to the bad reviews - they most likely have an agenda
The bad reviews seem to have an agenda. They seem to be either trolls or sent here from some far away site on the internet just to rate this movie down.
I loved it. Sure, it wasn't about Chernobyl or what caused it or anything like the tv series (have in mind, even if they share a name, they are not the same.) people who think that it's too much about the love between the parents/child can not like any ww2 movie that's about love during the war (think the likes of atonement etc). It's a beautiful movie. Really good actors, very beautifully filmed and an hommage to the heroes who lost their lives trying to save ours (I'm European). Don't get me wrong, there are absolutely some people responsible for this and I'm not saying they are the heroes. The heroes are the normal people, the workers who sacrificed their lives to make it a MUCH less catastrophe than it was. It could have been so much worse. There would be enormous amounts of people dead if it wasn't for them.
This movie is more of a love story than a drama about the accident itself, although there are scenes where you see the accident and the aftermath and the heroic efforts of the firemen etc.
The people writing bad reviews may not know that the people of soviet wasn't the leaders of soviet. I think it's pretty sad to rate a movie down because of your distaste for a country. Listen to a European/scandi whose country was directly affected and still is, this movie is by no means bad. It's a beautiful love story set in the middle of a disaster. Doesn't matter if it's in ww2's London, in NY during 9/11 or in Ukraine during Chernobyl disaster. You gotta be able to separate a country and it's horrible regime to a movie made decades later by an American company. Seriously.
Mother! (2017)
No.
Watched this at the cinema when it premiered, having great reviews and a trailer that looked decent.
A few minutes in I was angry. But I paid 8 euros to watch so sat thru. My friend and I were laughing and angry huffing and puffing. The acting was so bad. People in the theatre laughed. Booed at the end. Some swore. I'm not even exaggerating, if anything I might be a bit nice about their reactions.
Anyway. Tried to rewatch because my sister hadn't seen it. I said "oh boy" and put it on to see how long it took her to get that this was a biblical s h i t show. Well she figured it out almost immediately. We laughed and she (a film major) was confused as to how this film could be made.
The acting is not good at all. Think the room, but without the comedy. The delivery is almost funny, if you weren't so angry from spending your time and money unwisely.
The cinematography is bad. Really bad. You're left dizzy and angry.
This movie is as bad at being a movie as Alan Davies is at QI. Entertainingly stupid.
Lavender (2016)
A good movie!
I only went on IMDb after I watched the movie, and was surprised at all the bad reviews. Yes, it was a bit predictable. I wasn't shocked at the plot twists. But it was a wonderful movie either way. It's main focus is the love of a family even after death. It's a bit supernatural but yet the monster is a human. The way everyone died was a bit like a sketch from SNL but the acting and the writing was so good that I really felt sad that they died, even tho they're not in the movie as much. You really felt for everyone. It was a pretty scary movie at times, where suspension was built up with the paranormal. The child actors were all amazing, really. I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't the best I've seen, but it's certainly not the worst. It doesn't deserve the bad reviews.
Ladies in Black (2018)
Wonderful movie
I really loved this movie. I wanted it to be a series so that it would never end. I loved the characters and the plot was well written and it was both a fun and beautiful movie.
Time Trap (2017)
Meh
Well the acting was bad. Almost the room-bad. The idea was cool but the acting just made it a pretty meh experience. It's not a great movie. It's not even a good movie. I love sci-fi but this just was not it. The ending is what everyone raves about and honestly it's a bit underwhelming. Could have done more with it. But I know my 12 year old sister would find this very exciting. Not a great movie if you like to be challenged on your thoughts and/or the future.
Oxygène (2021)
Great experience - but don't read reviews before watching!!
At first I thought the movie was gonna be boring because it's just a girl in a box. But I was at the edge of my seat the entire movie, and I never knew what would happen. The twists in the plot were great, and it's really sci-fi in the sense of that it makes you rethink everything, how would I react if x happened to me, and what humanity is capable of and what's ethic and not. It was sort of like a black mirror episode because it's just about what technology can create and what makes us US? I would not read reviews before I watch the movie because it's really something you need to watch with open eyes and make up your own mind about.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
Theme throughout
It built up the tension and the husband whom at first seemed sweet grew darker and darker. Him sailing in to hell in the end, some have interpreted it as literal. I do not see it that way. I saw it as the filmmaker continuing the theme of the painting (you know which one I'm talking about). He got his deserved punishment. Whether it was by justines (good name, justice etc) testimony and him being incarcerated or you interpreted it as him dying and ending up in hell while cath ended up in heaven. People have not liked the ending but I liked it. It was a nice homage to the art, which is a theme throughout the entire movie. I do get that some people interpret it literal and gets bummed out but if you're open and analytical maybe you too would like the ending!
Malevolent (2018)
I don't think it deserves the hate
Yes, the movie wasn't the best scary movie I've seen but it's certainly not the worst. It was a good movie. Good acting. Good screenwriting. You liked the characters you were supposed to like and didnt see everything coming. It was a build up of tension and I honestly thought the ending was good. It's certainly worth a watch!
