Lombardi (2010)
Watch and learn why Lombardi has become an icon
There have been several documentaries on the life of Coach Vince Lombardi - and this one is as good, if not better than any made. My wife, who knew of the name but little of the man - other than hearing me praise him as the standard by which other coaches are judged - even she thoroughly enjoyed this program.
Perhaps compared to previous documentaries which focused on old football tales between the coach and his players, this presentation revealed the personal man, his inner struggles and everything his family had to endure. After watching this it's easy to see why so many people through various walks of life have often referred to famous quotes of Lombardi's. As he put it, the lessons of football could easily be applied as lessons for life.
I highly recommend the entire family watching this. You will learn why Lombardi has become an icon bigger than life. I promise you won't be disappointed.
The Yes Men Fix the World (2009)
For liberals, they are funny as hell!
It has been many years since I have laughed so hard and for so long to the point where I risked sending myself into cardiac arrest. Let me say up front I'm a strong conservative and I realize these guys are about as liberal as they come - but at least I give them credit for realizing that humor is the best tool to attack the opposition.
Having been involved in many political campaigns as an analyst, I've often criticized liberals for having an angry and bitter disposition to anyone who thinks differently. I didn't see that in Andy and Mike. They come across as good natured, which as a conservative I can then always respect their opinion - even if I disagree.
Their pranks demonstrate just how gullible many in government and the media are - not to mention plain stupid. Being from Louisiana I can tell you it wasn't a difficult challenge to dupe the likes of a Ray Nagin (mayor of New Orleans) and Kathleen Blanco (at the time governor of Louisiana). But then, the scene where they get a respected businessman into a terrorist protective suit that looks like an obese cockroach with Halliburton stamped on the side takes "pranking" to a new level. Absolutely priceless!
Andy and Mike, I might not agree with your politics, but I love your methodology of promoting your position. I can't wait to see the next pranks you pull.
Ella Enchanted (2004)
still insulted my intelligence, even if it is a fantasy
What would happen if a three-way, head on collision took place between Cinderella, Shrek and Rocky Horror...Ella Enchanted is what you'd end up with. What a mess!
I realize this is fiction and fantasy, but still, did it have to insult my intelligence as a movie-goer. Beside holes in the storyline and all too convenient plug-ins to the plot so things would move along when needed, I'm still not sure if the moral of this story is believable. Think about the classic fairy tales and fantasy stories our parents told us when we were children. Sure, they were pure fiction, but I don't ever recall a point in any of those childhood stories where I raised the question, "Gee, that doesn't make any sense" or "why the heck would anyone do something as stupid as that?"
Ella Enchanted is FULL of points raised such as these. Although, Anne Hathaway is as cute as a doll.
