Surprisingly tight and entertaining little Aussie thriller, ticks all the boxes for the horror genre. Very well made and the story moves along at a good pace and avoids horror movie clichés as much as it can for a low budget inde flick. Pretty scary with some really great scenes will have you watching through your fingers! Good to see a cameo from Tom Savini the master of gore, and some really great performances from the cast. Nic Hope must surely be one of the most under utilised actors around today and he gives a good performance as the maliciously murderous boss from hell. Also stand out performances from Sam Reid and Hayley McIlhenney, make this a very enjoyable way to spend a creepy night on the couch with a box of popcorn which may end up on the floor by the end credits.

It is fine to dislike this film and say it is something you didn't enjoy. But it is ridiculous to call The tree of life a bad film.
It is extremely sophisticated in its presentation of imagery to tell a story. No it is not your regular structured narrative. In fact it is quite cryptic in its use of symbolic imagery, but rest assured, it all has a meaning.
I frankly found it very challenging the first time i saw it in the cinema. I subsequently watched it again and now watch it on blue-ray. And i can say it is becoming one of my favorite films of all time.
The story, is basically about how everything in the universe is tied. It is realized by the use of loose narrative structure and stunning natural light images to convey the story.

Disturbing and affecting.

It is quite a well crafted film and the concepts it presents are quite disturbing. It shows the killers to be very cold, calculating and generally indifferent in the way the murders unfold.
I don't think it will be a very accessible film for most cinema goers, as the style and tone are very depressing. It is a very simple plot on the surface but the way it presents the characters is sometimes quite confusing, and i found it quite hard to follow who all the characters were and how they were related. It is appropriately photographed, the production design is correctly sparse and bleak and the soundtrack is very effective.

Big on presentation, small on heart

I was in great anticipation of this film and it started out in spectacular fashion but the dialogue constantly made me cringe,with corny un-inspiring lines from the majority of characters, im aware one shouldn't expect Shakespeare in a Hollywood blockbuster, but some thought into the writing would have been helpful.The plot is so thin and simplistic that it almost makes it un-watchable, rife with cliche monster laughs and hand-rubbing all the way through. Some very slick and scary effects though, with all the characters transformations visually stunning. But there is SO much visual assault that 1/2 way through i found it boring and senseless. I was really expecting a cool set of smart characters (like Drac) but, in the end, just a run-of-the-mill, Hollywood blockbuster. If you liked 'The Mummy" you will like this. If you like your films with a little more brains than brawn, then you wont.
