No Aussy Wildlife and no survival techniques??
14 January 2011
I eagerly anticipated watching RPF just last week. It just happened to be one of those movies that slipped past me......I was sure I would see Kangeroos and Dingos...maybe not Koalas granted...but even Emus...and surely snakes of one sort or another....along with survival skills...but not a dicky bird....and not a straw going into the ground to suck up water ...witchety grubs being eaten alive.ZILCH. which only leads me to believe that the actual walk along the RPF may have been more leisurely than we imagine...along only inhabited regions, living off of hand-outs?? I also wish there had been more sights of maps and " we are here...they are there" explanations and mentions of actual miles/kms travelled and the logistics of it all better explained. Very disappointed!!!

Great scene but too many "Gunther's!"
11 September 2009
The most poignant moment for me in this movie was the lynching of the young German in the forest. As per movie tradition we all expected warm fuzzy compassion from the mob, I mean he had a wife and kids, yet when they could find none in their hearts and executed justice, who of us could find fault with them? And the fact that not a word was spoken by their commander spoke volumes. THAT for me was a telling scene. In the light of the recent Scotland decision to show compassion for Al Megrahi and release him on "compassionate" grounds, maybe Mr Kenny Mcaskill should reflect on that scene and feel the pain of the mob. On a slightly negative note, there were too many sound clips of the word 'Gunther' being used whenever the Germans were around. It was irritating.

Depp and Di Caprio - True Artists
5 April 2005
I saw this film last week for the first time. The acting was on a level above most films I have ever seen, in particular that of Johny Depp and Leonardo Di Caprio. These two actors have shot up in my estimation since my having seen this movie, not in the sense that I didn't appreciate their recent work. I realized what true artists with integrity to their craft they must surely be, having been able to press on with their careers notwithstanding the absence of academy recognition for their performances here. The scene of Arnie trying to wake his dead mother, the developing expressions on his face , his striking of himself on the head, the pitch of his shrieks of joy while up in the tree, it really was character interpretation at its best. And Johny Depps Gilbert Grape character was able to successfully portray a reluctancy in his embarrassment of his overweight mother, fine shades in his of acting that overall made this a classic piece of art.

If Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge was a 'Meal o' the day', the this is the Ribs and Cabbage of the Chat shows.

I have rarely laughed so much. Maybe Derek and Clive and some M.Python but Alan Partridge is consistently hilarious. I find him even more loathsome than George of Seinfeld and that takes some doing. What a loser! But brilliantly written, and the timing is impeccable.Vintage British comedy which is making me snicker as I write this. Some scenes such as his cross country run to get away from his stalker, and his baying in the car park for his so called friend that he has caught sight of, oh the mans incorrigible! Every now and then in ones life you hear a song that you wish you could have written, you see a painting that you wish you could have painted and similarly........... comedy. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

We loved it!
20 December 2004
Maybe so, this and that were technically,or whatever else'ally inaccurate, lacking, call it what you will, all I know is 7 of us watched it and came out of the theater reliving our favorite moments ,isnt that the magic of the movies? My wife and I are going back this week to see it again and give Mr Loyd Webber more of our money. For us it worked, what can I say? I found the cast and the costumes beautiful, the acting inspiring, songs well-sung,cant wait to go back and am telling all my friends here in Rome to go see it. If anything I was a doubter entering the Metropolitan in Rome on Saturday at 7.30 but by the end of the show my vacillations were well and truly put to rest and I believe that this movie will gross big time.

A right film.
29 November 2004
The film appears to show people who felt they knew what right was and who acted in harmony with that inner conviction , right as the bible describes it to be for the school headmaster reads the parable of seed from the bible and otherwise quotes from it, and appears to be a living example of its precepts in his comportment. His reasonableness is most winsome especially in the scene where he rebukes the younger teacher for lack of respect toward the older teachers, notwithstanding the fact that he agrees with the younger teachers argument, he nonetheless criticises the way he presented it. The compelling invisible force that made people believe that they knew the right they felt was....was ..right and the subsequent belief that good would eventually triumph over bad, evil, naughtiness call it what you like, is undeniable in this film, and if Flashman is symbolic of the axis of evil, then maybe expulsion of them is mankinds only hope. Who will do the expelling? Who decides what is right? Evil? I love films that get you thinking!
