This movie is bad. Like really bad...
27 September 2020
From the very first scene I was regretting that I spent a whole $3.99 to rent this. The rating wasn't horrible so I figured I'd give it a shot. Bad idea. The acting was terrible. The main guy, Mike, was obnoxious and you couldn't empathize or connect with him at all. They literally a based the storyline on the Cecil hotel and brought in storylines about Elisa Lam, who had the weird experience with the elevator there and then ended up begin found dead in one of the water tanks on the roof) and Richard Ramirez (The Night Stalker serial killer) who used to rent a room there. The whole "haunted" thing just looked like something you'd see at a Halloween haunted attraction. I just let the movie run its course because I paid for it. Otherwise I would Jane just turned it off. I'm gonna kick myself for wasting my money for awhile.

If you don't understand psychological thrillers you won't like this
19 June 2020
I'm pretty sure the people giving this such a low rating were expecting this to be another dime store horror, which it isn't. This is a slow burn psychological thriller with some horror aspects. There are some mild jump scares but this is more like if M. Knight Shyamalan wrote Groundhog Day and set it in the Amityville House minus the devil. It wasn't prefect, but it wasn't bad either. Great performances and beautiful scenery. I'd watch it again to see what I missed the first time.

Hooked Up (2013)

This movie is pretty ridiculous and just drags on and on...
19 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I'm pretty sure the people who gave this movie high marks either were the actors in it or friends of the director because this only deserves a 4 rating at most, and I was being generous mainly because it reminded me of a haunt I walked through once around Halloween that I kind of liked. I live and breathe horror and am willing to watch anything in the genre. Good or bad, which is pretty obvious considering I sat through this atrocity all the way through. Anyway, here it goes....

The acting was overly done and bad. Like REALLY BAD. A lot of yelling, one of the main characters started out super obnoxious and his friend whiny and in the middle they kind of switched roles. But yeah, prepare for TONS of obnoxious and unnecessary yelling and erratic and awkward body motions.

The story made absolutely zero sense. I'm all for senseless violence and gore in my horror movie. But it has to at least have SOME kind of structure to keep my attention. All these two were doing were rambling on and on about the whiny guys recent breakup with his girlfriend even when some psycho girl in a bad Halloween mask is trying to stab them to death. It wasn't about "how do we get out of here?" or "How do we kill this chick?". Nope, it was about "why did you let me kiss that girl at the party so my girlfriend could catch me?!" and "I know you wanted to get with my girlfriend that's why you set me up with that girl!" and whawhawha... And it just didn't stop.

The psycho girl was probably the most unscary thing about this entire movie. And then after "Peter" killed her he starts rambling on about how his friend was trying to steal his ex girlfriend again in his really bad acting way. And then proceeds to kill him. Afterwards he decides to record a message for "Lisa" (his ex girlfriend) with some nonsense dribble. And then he just puts down the phone and walks away.

And the whole movie in it's entirety was shot on an iPhone. So yep... found footage...

My opinion, don't waste your time. There's other really bad horror movies out there that are way better than this.

Nocturne Six (2014)

This movie was neither intelligent nor chilling
5 April 2015
I actually watch a LOT of horror from the classics (The Black Room, White Zombie) to modern horror (Spring, Sinister)and I love everything from psychological to gory to downright creepy. Some I hated and some I really loved. I also review horror movies because I find that everyone has diverse tastes in what they find good and then some people are paid to give good reviews which cheats the viewer and they are stuck watching a train wreck and it's not even an entertaining one. Also I know that on here the directors get the actors and their friends to give the movie a high rating and write good reviews because that encourages other people to watch the movie (I fell for it), which is a really good system if the movie was actually worth watching. This movie just happens to be one of those train wrecks I mentioned earlier. The concept was good but it was executed poorly. The acting was so so bad. The staticy flickering camera was annoying because it was constantly happening. I get that it is supposed to be found footage but come on! The sound was horrible and the "demon/monster" sounded like a bleating goat. The story was disjointed and half the time you didn't know what was going on which led more to confusion than creepiness. I almost felt like I was watching a really badly done rendition of the Power Rangers meet Evil Big Foot. Not once did I feel creeped out or was I on the edge of my seat. This movie did not hold my attention and I actually had to force myself to sit through it. Not because it was scary but because I was getting so frustrated with that stupid flickering camera and confusion about what was really going on. This movie lacks any kind of intellectual stimulus. If you just want something to pass the time or for background noise this is great. If you actually want to sit down and watch a good indie horror I would pass this one up. And that's an honest answer.

Spring (I) (2014)

Absolutely wonderful movie
5 April 2015
This is kind of a romance horror as weird as that sounds. Not really gory but it has horror elements. If you ever watched Perfume (which I strongly recommend by the way. Another amazing movie) you'll like Spring. It's kind of the same element. The acting was on point. All the actors had such great chemistry with each other and they were really believable. The 2 main characters were just phenomenal. The story was fresh and well written. The back-story was well thought out. The scenery was breathtaking and the cinematography was exceptional. A few comments I read on here said that it dragged in places. I didn't get that impression at all. I thought the pace was necessary to get you involved with the characters. And the creature was well done and flows with the whole concept. More surreal and less scary. For you guys, this is a really good horror type movie to watch with your lady if she doesn't like horror. She will appreciate the love story part. I just really liked it and will probably watch it several more times as well as recommend it to those I think would appreciate it

The Invited (2010)

Oh the religious overtones...
2 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I don't do a lot of reviews but this one is more of a warning to horror fans than anything. I love all kinds of horror and have since I was a child. But haunting and possession have always been my favorites. So I try to never pass up on those. This movie started out OK and I didn't even mind the occasional religious nod. Hell, lots of really good horror movies do it. But they don't OVERdo it. The story was going along fine even if it was slow in spots. The acting was decent. Not Academy Award decent, but decent all the same. Most of the cinematography was alright. There were parts that were unnecessary like the 4 different shots of the main character shutting a door and nothing climatic happens. Or some of the slow motion shots. There was absolutely no purpose for any of that. And then the religion starts up again. Only people of faith can be saved from the wrath of the board. If you have no faith and you smudged your blood on it even accidentally you have to give up your soul to it like those before you (this type of stuff was repeated numerously by several different characters). This movie should have been touted as religious propaganda then a horror film. The only reason why I gave it a 4 instead of a 1 is because:

1) they had a guy in it with actual real tattoos that weren't stickers and he wasn't portrayed as a convict, gangster, drug addict, street thug, satanist or a biker which is almost unheard of.

2) Pam Grier is in it and I love that lady

3) Lou Diamond Phillips is in it and even tho he doesn't have the best track record when it comes to blockbuster movies at least he's consistent and

4) I liked the Papa Roach song at the end. And I'm not even a big fan of Papa Roach.

5) the ending was pretty cool and true to the genre, FINALLY!

Oh,and the male nurse was kind of funny. If it wasn't for those things this movie would have earned a much lower score from me.

I think people like to write bad reviews just for the sake of trolling sometimes
20 April 2014
In my honest opinion I didn't find this movie bad at all considering the budget and exceptionally small cast and crew. Working in budget movies myself I know how hard it can be on everyone involved and sometimes you have to wear many different hats throughout production to make things work. Granted this film was a bit slow in the beginning but aside from that the acting was good, great cinematography and it was suspenseful. This is not a movie gunked up with a bunch of computer generated garbage. And, to be honest, nothing "major" happens until toward the end. But there is a build up to that and I think it was executed well. So if you are looking for some big budget Hollywood horror flick this movie isn't for you. But if you enjoy a good budget film and can appreciate it for what it is look no further.

Nice little fan short
15 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's not the best acting or even matching as far as characters go. But it's still very enjoyable. The camera work is pretty good and the props are halloween store budget but it still works in giving you a horror movie feel.

As far as Freddy/Ash/Jason go, It's obvious that the Freddy actor is wearing a mask and his voice doesn't have that cockiness to it but all in all you still get the point that it's him. Jason, well, what more do you have to do to be Jason than be silent, hulking, imposing and hellbent on killing? And tho the Jason actor wasn't really any of those they were still kind of believable. And Ash didn't look like Ash at all. He looked more like a chubby version of Wolverine. But he still had Ash's demeanor and wisecracking humor down.

Definitely a fan version but one of the better ones that I've seen. If you are a die hard obsessive fan of the horror genre like I am I think you will appreciate this little rendition of a battle I know we would all love to see on the big screen with the original characters.

This was just dumb pure and simple
13 February 2013
I wanted to like this so much mostly based on the cover and description alone, but I can't. I get what they were trying to do with the story and the cinematography and such but the wonky noises throughout and the bad editing and weak acting, or lack thereof, really killed it for me. I don't even mind that it's a budget flick. There's a lot of good ones out there. Unfortunately this isn't one of them. I get that most of the "actors" are performance actors and actual acting isn't in their preferred talent description and that's OK. But this could have had such potential if it wasn't trying to be so stereotypically "mystifying" and bizarre. And I have no idea what the opening sequence had anything to do with the intended storyline. It was just pretty much freakshow freaks being just that. I probably would have enjoyed this more if it was some form of a twisted documentary take on them instead of this.... whatever you want to call it.
