Swamp Thing (2019)

Amazing horror tv-series!
16 October 2020
Fantastic first season and finally a great comic book based horror tv-show. Haven't had this much fun with a mystery / horror tv-series in general since watching the 80's 'The Twilight Zone', 90's 'The X Files' and some seasons of 'American Horror Story'. I can't understand how someone would even think about the cancellation of such an thrilling and amazing show, after just 10 episodes ('Swamp Thing' just got cancelled by DC after season 1). This must have been devastating for the great cast & its creators. As a long time Swamp Thing fan (my first comic book was a Swamp Thing comic) I can only hope that there is still a chance to save this amazing show and that the energetic & highly motivated cast and crew behind 'Swamp Thing' can come back for more. The fans want it... so why stop it? I watched all 10 episodes on Blu-ray and I am actually rewatching the series on Amazon prime. 'Swamp Thing' is a great, enthralling horror/mystery tv-show based on the legendary comic book character created by writer Len Wein & artist Bernie Wrightson in the early 70's. It first appeared in DC's HOUSE OF SECRETS #92 in 1971. This show deserves far more seasons and deals with a lot of current problems that we all sadly have to face these days, like the outbreak of a deadly virus or the impact of human behavior on our ecosystems and wildlife. The Green hasn't given up yet and so haven't the fans... bring 'Swamp Thing' back please! This show is ahead of its time! #SaveSwampThing

A cinematic miracle!
19 October 2017
English isn't my first language, please excuse any mistakes. So many thoughts, so many feelings since I watched this wonderful movie for the first time a few weeks ago. Since that... not a single day gone by without thinking about it. The movie is haunting me like near no other film I saw over the last 20 years (and I saw so many). Tears of joy... . On a personal note: It was worth to get through all the pain and suffering healthwise to be able to see such a bright, unique cinematic miracle. Iam glad and thankful for the opportunity to do so. There is so much to discover (mostly within yourself while watching the film), there is so much to riddle out, to think and feel about. A painful mirror image of our todays society and people on one hand... . Yet there are way more aspects and hints about what we have to face "tomorrow", if we not rethink and change our life together. We have to wake up as a species right now and become "humane" again (it's not to late yet). We still have a choice... and we must choose wisely. Saw the movie 3 times until now and next week it will become hopefully 4 times (still not enough). Some of us have only one chance in a lifetime to watch a great movie like that. A unique chance. There is something so very special, so very empathic, touching and humble, painfully honest about this cinematic wonder, about this masterpiece. Without a doubt in my favorite top five films. 1) The Elephant Man (1980), 2) Harakiri (1962), 3) Blade Runner 2049 (2017), 4) Akahige (1965), 5) Taxi Driver (1976). Thank you very much Denis Villeneuve and the whole crew behind 'BLADE RUNNER 2049'. 100% love! --- A unicorn stays a unicorn even its creators, those self-proclaimed "gods" (predators) are going to break and steal his horn, even if they tell him over and over again, that it is nothing special on an individual level and that it is just a simple workhorse (a tool), will it for sure stay a unicorn (stay special & unique) for as long as it believes in himself (self-esteem). Broken horns, like broken dreams are still worth being protected. What and who are you?, who do you want to become? Create your very own memories right now, choose wisely friend... it is all yours right now... because you are alive... you really are. Are you?

Yee-haw... Krites are back!
11 December 2015
(English isn't my first language, so please excuse any mistakes.) I am a huge Critters fan since the first movie, released in 1986 (I was 10 years old back in the days). Jordan Downey & his friends did a hell of a job with their little short film, named Critters: Bounty Hunter (2014). You have this special Critters movie feeling right from the beginning = a bit of horror, some sci-fi & a lot of Krites comedy. There are some cool new effects and the classic Bounty Hunter makes you feel home again. The team added some nice and detailed updates as for the outfit and the Bounty Hunters weapon. Also our beloved or should I say "feared" Krite looks fantastic (still a greedy little bastard). The puppet was specially designed for this short movie and it looks pretty damn awesome. What fans really don't want to see are any fake or weak looking CGI Critters and nobody has to worry, because Troy Smith did a fantastic job on creating a very cool & classic Critter puppet, which looks just the way we all remember them and fall in love with back in the late 80's (hungry and funny little rascals / space rats^^). As for the music, Nick Soole performed, arranged and produced a great cover of the classic song 'Power Of The Night' known from the original Critters film. I really hope these guys will be involved in any possible future Critters projects, because they really know what Krites fans are looking for (they are fans themselves). As for a possible full length new Critters film, I hope they will be able to add some cool mechanics for each puppets arms-, hands- and face movements^^ but that should be not a problem at all with just a larger budget. All in all this lil short film feels damn good, right and most important like CRITTERS! Thank you for bringing back a lot of cool childhood memories and I am really hungry for a new Critters movie right now!!!

Lost River (2014)

Lost River: A masterpiece of today's cinema
13 November 2015
"Lost River": A masterpiece of today's cinema and one of my personal favorites, next to timeless classics such as: Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey", Akira Kurosawa's "Red Beard (Akahige)", Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", Masaki Kobayashi's "Harakiri (Seppuku)", David Lynch's "The Elephant Man" or Paul Schrader's "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters". Also some of Cronenberg's work as well.

(English isn't my first language, so please excuse any mistakes.)

Ryan Gosling's directorial debut is asking the most important and most human questions of our time. The movie asks us to think our own thoughts, asks us to create a personal opinion about a few things going wrong in our world... questions about our fundamental values and "Lost River" asks us to feel about the biggest problems, challenges and threats many poor people are facing these days in our "modern" societies. The stunning visuals, the affectionate and caring audible environment = the beautiful & sensitive film score by the great Johnny Jewel, the whole cinematography + the magnificent performances of all the involved actresses and actors creates a unique, surreal but the same time deeply touching atmosphere. "Lost River": An exceptional composition of empathy and intellect, art like done by Giorgio de Chirico and Edvard Munch (symbolism, surrealism + empathy). This is truly one of the most humane and caring movies I ever saw. Like Kubrick, Gosling asks us questions without giving all the answers (which we are for sure waiting and looking for). I am pretty sure about that Stanley Kubrick would receive the same, mostly negative reviews for a movie like "2001: A Space Odyssey" today, as Ryan Gosling's "Lost River" received them sadly... . People of today want easy and for all very fast answers about just everything and if they don't get these answers immediately, most of those specimens of mankind will totally freak out, go crazy + (and that's really sad) also become aggressive because of that. Being asked to think own thoughts and to become more aware of yourself?, being asked to solve a riddle on your own?, being asked to create a very own personal opinion about something?, being asked to perceive the living conditions and personal circumstances of other human beings living next to you? ...it looks like the majority of today's "modern" people in 2015 are unable (or unwilling) to deal with something like that. Like Ryan Gosling's "Lost River", Stanley Kubrick's movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" would receive mixed to negative reactions by today's moviegoers and audience for the same reason... Mr. Kubrick would ask (like he did in 1968) basic questions of existence without giving all the answers, because he would create a stressful & challenging movie (in empathic, visual and intellectual ways), because he would ask for patience and self-reflection. Skills and values many of us obviously lost and which we are not willing or able to integrate in our today's life anymore... just where are we standing today, without all these (lost) skills and values? I mean in human togetherness (if something like this still exists)?

Like "2001", "Lost River" is asking for the best of you... your intellect, your empathy, your heart, soul and imagination. It's also a film about the reflection (mirror image) of most (fortunately, not all) of today's "modern" people... sad, selfish, shrewd in simple material ways, just hungry for taking advantage of someones misery, just hungry for making capital out of something, hungry for bombastic effects and fast-paced meaningless action, not able to think in more complex and more human ways, unable to empathise with each other anymore. Maybe it's no wonder many of today's moviegoers weren't able to understand the context... . "Lost River" thematizes exact all these kind of problems in a painful, heart-touching and personal way. The movie also offers and shows some solutions if you are ready to explore them and if you are willing to take a closer look: ...find your own values, keep fighting and keep caring for your family and its members = take care of yourself too and don't let others hurt you, self esteem, try to stay open-minded, find real friendships, love, accept and learn from the past, don't be superficial and take a closer look, stay open for a real relationship because you deserve it, try to create a better future. Exploring those solutions while watching the movie characters development is not only entertaining, it is also very moving and inspiring.

A masterpiece and future classic... an important film of today, one that bypasses verbalized pigeonholing. Like "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Lost River" is a special visual experience and far ahead of its time.
