Now That's Entertanment.
15 June 2022
The short and sweet of Top Gun, Maverick: It's entertaining. The cinematography is outstanding, the story is relatively good, and the acting is also good but not Oscar worthy. It's a fun movie and for fans like me of the 1986 original movie, the story lines match up great.

It's worth a second trip to the theater to be entertained once again.

Missing The Mark and A Missed Opportunity
15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"VICE" had the perfect opportunity to get peoples attention by exposing the truth behind the wars caused by the September 11th, 2001 attacks, MONEY! The only true hint of that however was in the epilogue before the credits. But not just that Halliburton's stock price rose 500%, no but how about the 1 trillion dollars spent chasing a ghost that we help create?

This film makes a lot of accusations about Dick Cheney zeal for power, Most I believe to be true, but the "Mad Magazine" portrayals of Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, and the terrible casting of Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld make "VICE" look like the last sketch on S. N. L. That's always the worst segment of the show. I mostly love Christian Bale's acting ability, but not in this movie. He spent too much time impersonating Dick Cheney mannerisms which made Cheney look like one of Jeff Dunham's dummies. I fact "Walter" might have pulled off the part of Cheney better!

I rated if 5 out of 10 for the subject matter that should have been presented in more of a crime/political thriller like "ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN". But unfortunately, it came off as a dark satire comedy that unfortunately no one can take seriously. This subject matter really happened and it should not have been presented as a comedy. It's one of the most tragic episodes in the history of the world with 100,000's lives lost as a result of these political practices.

I hope some brave film maker will try tell this story correctly some day soon.

It's a one of a kind. But most won't like it.
6 March 2022
I loved this movie because it wasn't a remake, and it's original with a unique story line. Hollywood actually can do something new and take a risk. The problem is, the general public didn't like this movie because Jim Carey is funny in it. No He's brilliant.

With all the social issues, especially with society being forced to stay away from each other the last two years, and all the personality disorders caused by living our lives through social media, video game personas, and the lack of actual real people in our lives, this movie show these effects on the two main characters. Neither know how to deal with reality. And for that, this movie can be difficult to endure, but it's lasting redeeming quality it that none of us are too far gone to find real happiness in a relationship with a real person.

Cashback (2004)

If you're an artist, you'll get this movie, if not, keep on browsing.

As a photographer, I get this movie. It's about seeing life in it's tiny moments and being able to capture them forever. That's what the main character Ben who's an aspiring sketch/painter shows us throughout the film. That ability that so few have of being able to show down time, even stop it, and find the lines, curves, elegance and refinement of life. This is something shared with great athletes who can slow down their game and see the avenues of winning.

Yes, Ben's obsessed with the beauty of the female form, and you'll see lots of naked bodies, but most of the world's greatest artist have that same obsession. They've been able to capture them and share them with the world as great works of art.

Ben's journey also takes us through his personal struggles of being unable to relate with people in the real world. Something many artist share.

I find this movie a wonderful capsule of how to to find the allure of life. It's right under our noses folks. Just slow down, take the moment in, and let time come to a stop, and it's there.

Resistance (2020)

Worth a Free Watch.
21 August 2020
It's not the best WWII resistance movie I've seen, but it's still a decent movie. Jesse Eisenberg is a polarizing actor. Some people just love to hate him. Yet his performance in this movie is good enough as French mime Marcel Marceau. Maybe I like this movie because I didn't know about this story. Never the less, it's a good story. Matthias Schweighöfer plays notorious Klaus Barbie the Butcher of Lyon. His acting is very good. The one draw back to the film is it's a little slow and It's not very action packed like Defiance, my favorite WWII resistance film. I bought the Blue Ray at a used DVD store, obviously someone paid full price and didn't like it. I bought it for $5 and feel it's worth it. I'll watch it again soon. If you can find it on Netflix or another streaming service, It's worth a view. I wouldn't pay full price for the disk, and I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in a theater.

I Thought I Was Seeing A Historical Movie, Instead of a Remake of Flashdance!
20 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just bought this movie at the used DVD store and thankfully I didn't pay to watch it in a theater. I bought this movie because I figure that a new version of this incredible event was due and I like Daniel Bruhl and Rosamund Pike. I was completely disappointed in the script, the music the casting and the complete lack of character development. What were they thinking when they wrote the script for this movie.I've read two books about this historical event and I've seen the 1977 TV Movie, and for once the TV Movie was not only more accurate, but also just plain better. I cannot for the life of me understand the use of modern dance during the actual raid to free the hostages. I was hoping the use of dance at the beginning of the film would make some sense later on, but it's continuation during the Israeli raid completely destroyed what little interest I had in this film. Then end credits have more useless Flash Dance as well! The film does take a look at the hijackers point of view which is not only anti-Israeli, but simply anti western civilization and very pro revolutionary communists. Fine, if they had simply gone with this point of view so be it. But they even did a terrible job at that. I gave it 1 star, it should be -10 stars.

Anyone want to buy the used Blue-Ray? If not, it'll be available at the Goodwill this weekend!
