'D' (2005)
Not as good as the rest but well worth watching....
I agree in most part with the first review especially when comparing it to other movies from the RGV production house. Unless watched as a prequel to 'Company', it stands a little feebly with a mixture of actors, script, storyline and direction borrowed from it's fantastic predecessors. Otherwise it's an interesting prologue to a more complete and fulfilling story. I think the movie improves in the last third with excellent plot development and gritty twists, and the finale is well-worth waiting for.
Having loved 'Satya', 'Company' and 'Ab Tak Chappan', maybe I was expecting too much from the same genre and was a little disappointed. Try again some other time methinks, rather differently perhaps for a fresher approach.

Too much hype = anti-climactic disappointment
Having heard so much of this movie during it's recent UK release, I was eager to watch the Chinese Extended DVD in my possession, which was beautifully packaged in a collector's box.
I had been informed by a friend and film buff that it as an "art film" that should not be missed.
Having seen it, I must say, visually, yes it is stunning. Amazing colours, vivid photography, wonderful martial arts. But, it is surprisingly boring and the suspense in discovering the meaning at the end just collapses.
If nothing was said about this and someone watched in by accident, they would have enjoyed it more- especially if they had not seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"- now comparing this to the former, it certainly is no masterpiece and now Crouching Tiger, in my opinion, should be elevated as a consequence.
Back to watching Jet Li's other movies such as "The One" and "Kiss of the Dragon" I think....
Ab Tak Chhappan (2004)
Best film so far from the Ram Gopal Varma factory....
Satya was excellent.... Company was just as good but more polished, probably owing to the money earned from previous movies. Ab Tak Chappan however is even more entertaining. The dialogue is gritty, crude and at times hilarious. Nana Pataker shines yet again in a role that only he can fulfill with authority but the supporting cast are very talented. Direction is tight and the story evolves at a satisfying pace with a very dramtic climax. As a depiction of reality it may be over-dramatised but at the end of the day it's a movie so the balance is spot-on. I've ordered my DVD and can't wait to see it again at home. As a lover of these type of gangster flicks, this is very gratifying and comes highly recommended for the refreshingly "non-Yash Raj" Bollywood gangster flick lovers out there.
