Gump - pes, který naucil lidi zít (2021)
Smart film about a dog's journey
You can tell the film director loves dogs and he's done justice to the canine. The film has some twists and tear jerking moments. Many dogs were part of the filming and all of them had stories as dramatic as the the storyline - as they were all rescue dogs.
Yhe film tells the story of one Jack Russell Cross breed who treks the Czech Republic as a stray trying yo find a human to call his.
The adventure maps his efforts to find his adopted owner adter they are cruelly separated.
It's amusing how the dog, called Gump after movie Forrest Gump, names people by the scent of their hands.
Expect subtitles from. Czech audio.
Grittier than a Disney movie but fun for all the family. However some scenes might be upsetting for small children.
David Niven's World (1976)
Childhood memories
Appreciated stumbling upon reviewer saltd account in 2006 of this series. His accounts from New York corroborate with mine. Only I was 9 and he 17 in 1976. The show was produced I think in the UK and was screened ar weekends on commercial station ITV. Fairly certain it was Sunday afternoons 2-3pm zone as I visited my relatives in London and without seeking it out would find and watch it. Niven's personality was 50pct of the show as the topics I didnt always care for.
Au hasard Balthazar (1966)
Anyone who has a heart will be moved
Donkeys are often the subject of mistreatment. And so it is in this rural tale from 1966. It shows a remarkable creature and we can only hope that no actual harm was done to this four-legged actor during filming. It is moving and a classic of French cinema. If more people see it let's hope it changes our relationship with these dignified and kind creatures who are smarter than we think.
The Elephant Queen (2018)
As Botswana weeks, the reality of elephants
Viewing this documentary has additional resonance in the week when the plight of Botswana's elephants has been widely reported.
A mysterious cause has resulted in the mass death of hundreds of these endangered creatures, in a country home to one third of Africa's elephants.
So watching this movie has been doubly moving as we become witnesses to a tribe of elephants led by the brave Athena.
At times funny, as they tip toe around tortoises and frogs, they must navigate drought and other challenges.
Magnificently filmed to the standard we would expect from David Attenborough's BBC crew.
I hope it makes people wake up to the real dangers these magnificent creatures face, and that we help their future in the wild.
