One Life (2023)
Reduced me, a grown man to tears.
I remember watching the original That's Life, full of humour and that dog that could say "Sausages"
I also remember pleading to stay up on Sunday night, before school on Monday, and seeing the episodes with this great human being. Thanks to Esther I didn't do so well in my exams, but I think I'm a better person for it.
He's now in a better place, but what a person, a real hero.
The story I remember is his wife, knowing nothing of this history, discovering the scrapbook and realising it's importance, contacting others. I might be mistaken, it's decades ago, but if so, why change it for a film?
Now think of the families in this film, but being told to move to a safe place, then it's bombed, thats Gaza 2024. Sir Nicholas wouldn't be saying we are full, he'd be helping get the kids out.
30,000 dead, when will humanity learn....
And Esther's late husband, Desmond Wilcox, another great man. If you can find "A Boy Called David" that's a documentary you should watch.
Kastanjemanden (2021)
Started off well then became ludicrous
Enjoyed the first 4 episodes even though I fell asleep near the end of the 1st and had to watch the ending again.
But the whole series was ruined by everyone going it alone, not telling people where they were and that they were about to corner a serial killer alone
And since when did petrol differentiate between inanimate objects and people? Petrol poured everywhere goes up in a flash but the very same stuff when thrown on people behaves like water.
A disappointing end to what started off as a promising thriller.
Scorpion (2014)
Think it's meant to be a kids show.
Pilot episode, planes can't land due to a software update.
Plane flies so low as to connect an ethernet cable to a laptop. If I was the pilot I would just have landed the damn plane. Then plugged the laptop in.
Reminds me of the A-team building armoured cars from nothing.
So let your kids enjoy it but take it for what it is.
And by the way there are never hatches to climb out of lifts, gate override keys are usually sufficient for engineers to get you out.
Care (2018)
Another quality piece from the BBC
Watched this some time ago and found it to be such a good watch, accurately portraying the struggles of the less fortunate under yet another Tory government. For those that despise the license fee and moan about the BBC, this is the BBC at it's best. Just as the NHS and social care are shown here to be underfunded it's government underfunding that's causing the removal of the license fee, it's not the BBC's fault. Watch this and see the real state of Britain at the moment and pray a similar situation doesn't befall you in the next few years.
Then get your hands on a copy of Boy's From The Blackstuff and wonder why people keep voting these people in.
Love the Coopers (2015)
Deserves far more than 5.7
Maybe being little older I like to watch a film at Xmas where you feel you know where it's going and a nice little ending. Just wanted a little laugh and mice story and that's what you get. Not side splitting just feel good.
Glad I stumbled on this gem, wiith some great actors like Alan Arkin.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Has someone hacked IMDb, never 8.5 far from it
I'm known for dragging out a story but the first 2 hours could have been covered in 25 minutes, only then would I have contemplated a 5.5 rating. About 3 comedy moments and a long drawn out story that only the downfall was worth watching. I can only think the prevalence of naked women, men and sex has somehow merited the 8.5 rating as "art". Shall now go and do something more interesting, sleep. Sorry, I now have to waffle on and drag this review out as it must be a minimum of 10 lines, what more can I say, I'm tired after 3 hours of boredom and want some sleep.
Thoroughly disappointed.
