Island of Terror (1966)
'Ireland' of terror
The title works your imagination, 'Island' of terror - you think of a dark terrifying jungle where beasts only dare to tread - but no, its just Ireland. Ireland where bone sucking creatures are causing havoc by doing a fair amount of 'sucking' Sure, there are one or two 'creepy' moments here and there but the first sight of the creatures is a real let down and secures it as a 'cheapie' Cushing really could have chosen better......
They Came from Beyond Space (1967)
Beyond space?
This really is quite a poor attempt at sci-fi horror - delivering nothing what Hammer did so well. Aliens take over Earthlings in order to fix their spaceship which has crashed into the moon. Its all left up to astrophysicist Robert Hutton to try and save the day - its a good job the metal plate in his head doesn't allow him to be 'controlled' .....save your time......
The Likely Lads (1976)
The Likely Lads are back!
A great fun movie capturing the characters we all know an love. The serious Bob and the fun loving and fancy free Terry, both bouncing off one and other perfectly. A great feeling of nostalgia ensues with the changing landscape of North and the idea that things will never be the same again - with Bob still trying to adjust to married life and Terry with yet another girlfriend - the four take a caravan trip together full of hapless adventure. Highly enjoyable
Buchanan Rides Alone (1958)
Buchanan rides alone....sort of
Randolph Scott rides into Agry Town with a smile on his face looking like nothing will dampen his spirits - that is until one of the Agry Clan is killed and Buchanan is caught up in the middle of it.
Fights, shootouts, double crossing, kidnap a dusty baron town in California, its Cactus plants, Mexicans and sombre guitar music make this a highly enjoyable Western
Ride a Crooked Trail (1958)
Audie Murphy Takes charge
As simple case of mistaken identity puts wanted bank robber Audie Murphy in position of Sheriff in a small but fast growing Western Town - with its own large bank. The film plods along nicely giving enough to keep the viewer interested and when it does begin to delve into Murphy's character, it still manages to keep the question 'will he or wont he' wide open. Walter Mattau provides the comedy as the drunken judge who rules with an iron fist. Enjoyable..
Creep Van (2012)
made with good intentions but struggled to keep head above water
One of those straight to video movies that you decide to give a chance and then wonder why you did. I like the way the main character is stuck in this dead end job but is trying to make the most of it with attempting to pick up the attractive young lady working at the same place and trying to enquire about the van for sale. The Creep Van - The same van that kills its first two occupants in glorious fashion - and then of course the film makers seem to run out of cash as very little happens of any merit after that. An OK film if you find you can relate to the main guy but the ending will lead you back to that wonder, the wonder why you bothered and to that point, why the filmmakers bothered also.
