Dredd (2012)
Awesome
Just watched this for the second time, and even better than when saw it the first time. They played this straight, totally in line with the Dredd we know from 2000AD, and so polar opposite to the cartoon character Stallone created....Absolutely awesome. Guaranteed more Dredd films, and as long as they keep them with the same feel as this, then bring 'em on. Urban is superb as Dredd, got the feel of him spot on. Not a bad show from anyone really which considering this is a comic book movie at the end of the day, is pretty impressive. No daft comedy jokes or anything, everybody played it gritty and bleak and that sums up the best story lines from the comics. All I can ask for, whether its the next one or not, is for Judge Death to be introduced....
Revolution (2012)
I think this actually shows promise....
There seems to be a lot of negativity hanging about this show. I just watched the pilot, and y'know, I was either in a super mood and nothing was putting me off it, or I guess it just wasn't all that bad.
For a pilot, I've seen worse...a lot worse. OK the acting was a tad wooden, and I agree with another reviewer's comments about why the buildings/cities were in such a mess, I mean, people should see how old some buildings are in Scotland, and see some of the people that live in them, yet they don't look as badly kept/overgrown as the buildings in this show. Yes, the premise of the story is a bit far stretched but really people, give it a go, I can see so many ways they can take this show, and I genuinely don't think it's meant to be as serious as perhaps AMC's The Walking Dead, which another reviewer refers to as the way to go with this show. It's a totally different type of beast (ok the acting's bad, but they aren't zombie bad).
The ending did kind of make me wonder why the lead's dad didn't use his little piece of jewellery to keep his electricity going, I mean, I was a little upset when he gave his daughter the giant tub of ice cream and she had to wade through the whole tub just because it was going to melt (poor kid). I am kinda curious to find out who the person is on the other end of the computer though, so I'm defo sticking with it.
I'm also intrigued about Monroe, as this is the chap that was in 'The Cape', and all I can remember about that show was how much eye makeup he seemed to wear. I'm hopeful he'll be better in this show....
I think people have been taking their serious pills prior to watching this show. My advice? Switch your brain off, and give it a go, there's worse out there.
Just watched episode 2 and gotta agree with aggieborn from Washington, DC, USA, the second episode did actually make me think about a few things, so yes, I still say this should really not be taken seriously to the point of "this can happen and this can't happen in real life", but as well as just enjoying the fun elements and CGI I actually think they could make a decent show out of this if they work on some of the things they bring to light. Good shows get dropped (I liked Secret Circle for example) but shows I thought sucked for the first couple episodes (Buffy to name but one), ended up one of my fave shows ever to the point where I watched all 7 seasons again quite recently, so I say again, give this show a go, you might just like it...
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Could watch it again and again
Awesome. Best of the trilogy but doesn't set itself apart from the first 2. Its long but the time flew by. Directing was spot on and everybody played their parts perfectly. I thought I was going to have a gripe with Bane not bulking up the way he does in the comics but I'm delighted he didn't. Hardy played the part superbly, you still get the feeling he is crazy strong and smart, and Hardy is hardly a small fella so hats off to him pulling the part off as well as he did without the aid of a muscle suit. Bale was again brilliant as Wayne/Batman, honestly couldn't pick a fault with anyone's performance. That ending blew me away too, you just know what's coming next if they decide to make another :-) Best feeling was leaving the IMax pumped up about it, then remembering the big reveal in the film I should have gotten way before it happened having read Batman for nearly 4 decades, but I reckon I could watch it again and still be excited at the reveal. Only down point in this film was that it ended....
Supernatural (2005)
Worth watching all over again....
1st of all would like to say to 'peace 63' and his/her comments. Whats with the Dean hating? Either you fancy Jared like mad or Jensen knocked you back or something? Seriously I doubt the North Koreans hate the South Koreans quite as much. This show is one of the best out there. How many shows have the original 'ending' by the creator but are moving into a third additional season following that ending?
As for Sam and Dean apparently having no chemistry together, that's one of the reasons why the show has such a large gay and female following, 'coz the chemistry is strong between 'em. They even play on the gay 'bromance' themselves throughout each season (especially in their gag reels).
The supporting cast throughout each season has been great, but season 7 was so good because it went back to mainly being about Sam and Dean again.
Best episode? Season 6, episode 15 'The French Mistake'. Great fun seeing them jump into a universe where they're just normal Jared and Jensen in a TV show, and how ridiculous they find their 'normal' lives. That was neat. Can't wait for Season 8 in Purgatory!
