Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Empty, loveless and lazy writing.
Well, that was.. something. Yes, like everybody else I agree: the visuals were stunning. That's why it's getting 1 star.
I wasn't expecting anything from the story seeing as the story in the first movie was average but fun to watch. So I went in blind. It really felt like a next-gen video game and if it were a game I would've liked it more - I think. But for me it was just awful.
Let me put it this way, if you are able to ignore the macho sexism and every tired trope, then you'll probably have fun. I couldn't. It was too much, too cliché, too cheesy, too stupid.
Regarding the tired tropes, we have for example,
- the "sweet little daughter who gets caught every time"
- "the weird "freak" who is strangely attuned to the nature and gets to show it off at the end"
- "the outcast who befriends another outcast and both get to redeem themselves"
- "the bullies picking on the new kids but hey, new kid saves them, so they're besties now"
- "The distant, stern father who is too tough to show his love for his kids in a healthy way"
and so ond, and so forth. But the thing is, I didn't care for any of the characters because it simply felt empty. I didn't root for anyone and what the hell was up with their marriage?? No chemistry, no love?
It also felt like the qriters didn't know what message they wanted to send, should it be a movie against whaling? Against genocide of indigenous people? About friendship? Nobody knows.
And lastly, do the women actually have any dialogue except for grunting, screaming and looking like psychopaths? Honestly, it felt like they had maybe like 5 sentences or something. Jeezes.

Is something missing? Feels like it doesn't fit somehow
I don't know, it feels like there's something missing or that you have a bunch of puzzle pieces which almost fit but somehow they don't.
The music for example feels like it's not fitting and out if place in several scenes. There have been several times where I had to rewind because I thought I missed a piece of information, but I didn't. Also, it felt like "suddenly" there was Sparma. I know he was at the autorepair shop where Deke was for getting the lists. But still.
I can't really explain it but I feel like the movie would've been better or more watchable for me, if there were some more pieces to the puzzle. Or if they would've taken some more time to introduce Sparma.
Bates Motel: First You Dream, Then You Die (2013)
One scene was entirely unnecessary and ruined the episode for me
The first episode is promising, in theory. I really like the actress for Norma.
But what I hate with a fiery passion is her r*pe scene. Why? Why was this necessary? It would've been plenty if the creep simply broke in. Or if you must, he could've beaten her or slapped her or whatnot. Why the hell do writers feel the need to degrade a woman even further? In what way did this serve the plot? Why not stop at hitting her?
I simply hate this trope because it rarely, if ever, serves the plot and is just a lazy, degrading, messed up tool to "shock" the viewers.
I'll continue watching but I just got so mad at this particular scene which is so insanely unnecessary.

Mixed Bag, everyone can find something
I think everyone who is drawn to this show because they love the horror genre, is gonna find at least one episode they'll love. Maybe even more. The show promised a cabinet of curiosities and it delivered, you get 8 episodes, different directors, different stories. I think it is a mistake to treat this show like a normal series with one story arch, you can't. So you're bound to get a mixed bag because it's just like you were to watch 8 short movies at a festival for example. And like with festivals you're probably not gonna like every movie displayed there.
For me, I hated "The Murmuring" with a fiery passion but for others, "The Murmuring" was their highlight.
I loved "The Autopsy" and others hated it.
So, just watch the season, find the episodes you'll love and disregard the rest.

Typical "couple suffered loss and stays in creepy house" story
If you read the short episode summary and are into that kind of story, then this episode is for you.
It's cliché: couple suffered loss of child, they stay in creepy house for their work/hobby (in this case birdwatching), the woman starts hearing baby voices and footsteps of children in the night. He tries to be supportive in his own way but she gets snappy because they are beyond the point of communicating properly with each other.
I've never liked these kinds of movies because they all use the same kind of storytelling and same jump-scares. Again, if you like that sort of story, you'll probably like this episode.
For me, it was extremely boring and the second they arrived at the creepy old house it was clear how it's gonna end.

Didn't work for me, maybe because of placement after third epiu
I know what the episode is trying to convey but it didn't work for me. But maybe it's because I was taken aback by the third episode and loved it and then this came along and in comparison it was just... boring? I haven't watched the rest of the season yet but I feel like maybe if this episode came after the 2nd one (the one with the rats), I might've liked it more? Not sure.
And maybe I didn't really like it because of the ending, I've kinda been expecting that she would go on a rampage, covered in the lotion and kill all those annoying women in the bank or something. But I really didn't understand why she killed her husband? If she had to kill someone, why not the women? Or maybe drown herself in the lotion if you wanted a depressing ending.
I feel like this episode could've been better. But I really believe, if it didn't came after the third one, I would've liked it more.

The bully/"mean girl" trope ruins it for me
I really, really want to be excited about the new season. I really, really want to love the new episodes. But the whole bully-trope is ruining everything for me.
I'm so sick of the "mean girl" trope, meaning Angela. I feel like it's kinda lazy writing, just to put some sort of conflict within Eleven. I feel like they could've achieved her feeling of isolation and not fitting anywhere in a better way. Less tropey.
The same goes for the sport jocks, gunning for the "freak" because they jump to ludicrous conclusions. It feels forced and out of place. Again, it feels like they're forcing a conflict to push the story ahead. But in a lazy way.
The show has always been, for me at least, a celebration of nerds, the weird, the strange. But as of now, it feels like any other stupid, heartless Highschool movie.
And that's why, all the other story lines (which are a tad too many) are dampened for me. I'm just to annoyed by the effin' bully trope.
I honestly hope it'll get better with the next episodes. But as of now, I'm disappointed 😞
Dublin Murders (2019)
Nothing made sense and it actually made me angry
I honestly have no idea what's happening and I don't understand the point of Lexi's story line. And I use the term "story" very lightly.
The first couple of episodes were engaging and very promising but then everything just goes off the rails.
I'm at episode 7 now and with every passing minute I get more angry because of the stupidity of it all. There are too many story lines and you keep asking yourself "Why should I care".
But seriously what made me the most angry is what the bloody hell is up with these arrogant "students" who live in a house and probably killed the "Lexi". God, the stupidity of this show. Really, it's causing me pain.
Update:
It appears they crammed two books into 8 episodes. That's probably the reason why the srorylines felt so very unhinged and why it absolutely did not fit together at all. Also, the questions you'll have at the end? The mystery with the kids in the woods? The author didn't answer that question in their book neither, because, you know.. why build everything around one mystery and then simply don't resolve it. Ugh. This is almost as bad as the ending of "Lost".
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012)
Now.. kiss!
Damn.
I was a fan of the first three books.. then came the fourth and I didn't like it. Well, actually I didn't like the ending: all blah, blah, blah, making you believe there's gonna be this huge terrible fight and then nothing. So I knew what I had to expect from the last movie. But damn. That movie was even worse than the book and I'm still amazed how that could be accomplished.
I liked the previous movies somehow.. with "Eclipse" being my 'favorite' one. And I couldn't really see why everyone was complaining about Kristen Stewart or the whole cast for that matter. I don't know why, maybe I didn't want to see it before or this movie was just so very bad. But the acting was terrible. I mean, really, really terrible.
For example this whole "I'll fight with you" - scene. I can't shake the feeling the director wanted to imitate the scene from Lord of the Rings at Erlond's council, where everyone stood by Frodo. I swear I almost saw Gimli in "Breaking Dawn" offering Bella his ax.. and a moment later chop her head off. Nah, seriously though they tried to create an intense scene and failed. Miserably.
And the romance was... I don't know. It is almost like the director is a 13-year old person who has the power to make people kiss; if they want to or not. Combine that with awkward CGI effects and you have an awkward movie.
But hey, at least Bella wasn't all that dependent on Edward - she was now the one protecting him. Which was a nice change, but the fact remains that the Twilight-Saga (movies and books alike) is a real bad example for girls and women everywhere. Frankly, if I were to have kids I wouldn't want them to become like Bella: no self-respect and her entire world depends on one man for whom she does everything without question.
Long story short, this movie sucked. And the only reason I'm not rating it with 1 star is that I had a few laughs, thanks to Emmett and Charlie.
