Game of Thrones (2011)
This is not lord of the rings
I consider myself as a man who doesn't watch TV series, i never did.On the other hand,i enjoy watching movies. Some friends of mine told me about game of thrones. They compared this series with lord of the rings and when they did that...that was the final hit.I started watching the 1st season, i watched it all, every episode.Someone could say that i was inspired or even more that i was amazed. No i wasn't, it was just the needing to know.I wanted to see what was going to happen.Maybe this is the goal of the producers, maybe they don't care if you like it, they just want you to watch,to watch it all.If that is, they achieved it. But let me tell you this, this has nothing to do with lord of the rings. You are not going to see lord of the rings in a TV series version.I am not saying if this is good or bad, this depends on each one's preferences. All i am saying is that this is something completely different. Here you can enjoy corruption,anti-heroism,back-stabs,murders,ultra- violence, naked "sausages" and bouncing "melons",if you know what i mean and most of all death. As for fantasy, battles, true heroes and...fantasy, this is not the right place to be.Of course i don't believe that fantasy and battles is all that lord of the rings gives. On the opposite, lord of the rings, mostly as a book but as a film too, transfers very deep meanings. I want to add,as an answer to some reviews, that true heroes and true villains are not childish or superficial. The existence of the good and the evil symbolizes the human and his internal fight and dilemma.Talking about lord of the rings,i think that its heroes are much more realistic than the ones in the game of thrones.Every important character in lord of the rings confronts his/her bad and dark self, for example frodo and boromir did.But the target is to transfer the meaning of hope and love that's why finally comes the redemption of the characters.I didn't see this in game of thrones and i didn't like it. Concluding, you could find some interesting things in game of thrones, one of them is the plot which will easily keep your eyes on the screen.Have a good day.
Natural Born Killers (1994)
Third eye
I use to read some of the reviews before i write my own. That's because i want to have in mind several opinions. If you do this yourselves you will understand quickly that this movie is one of the most controversial. If you have checked my rating(which is quite possible) you will have already understood that i belong to the lovers of this movie and i don't believe that you will find many in the middle.I mean this movie is made to separate people into two contradicting sides. So i ain't gonna explain why i liked it so much....what i am gonna do is to fight the opposite side, always with good intentions...
I don't believe that the point of the movie is to show two psychopaths serial killers and their daily routine, but, firstly, to make clear that mass media have chosen such subjects to attract viewers.
The main point of the movie is blatant. In every second we can see that mass media,TV mostly, are the "third eye" through that, sometimes, a person see the world. For example if somebody make love with a woman or man what his/her third eye does is to make he/she see porn or beautiful sex scenes from his/her favorite TV series or rocky balboa making love his sexy wife and i don't know what else and that's media content. The main point is that one of the most important sources of association of ideas is mass media(TV mostly)and media needs characters that will attract and allure the viewers such as two natural born killers.
In this movie these associations of ideas are shown through the Knox couple whose minds are already harmed from their childhood and the only thing that they get in return is "information".The information that TV gives which make them go nuts. They know that their new parents are mass media and they finally get to understand that media is not that better than their previous parents.
I believe that oliver stone didn't want to underestimate common people and make two psychopaths look better but to show that these two psychopaths are partially a national product and this product has the support of justice ,science and government in order to stay active and profitable.
The Reflecting Skin (1990)
A contradiction
I read some of the reviews and as i had already provoked there were some very deep ,sophisticated and intellectual reviews.I am not writing often a review and i am not here pretending to be a simple guy who will explain you the movie. The movie is not simple and absolutely not very clear.I do like this kind of movies because i find something very authentic and personal to them although sometimes they are becoming confusing. This movie confused me a little and depressed me in a weird way.I heard the music in the beginning and i thought it was a perfect prelude for a meaning-full movie. Then there was the scenery, the view, i thought it was majestic. And then something happened, a weird contradiction but a very realistic one too.The life and behavior of the adults at that place changed the scenery into something depressing and dull. The children had to endure the problematic lives and the cruel manners of the adults and the only way out was action and exaggerating fantasy. The children, always waiting for something new something that could set them free.Locked in a social network founded on violence, problematic adults and war.Waiting and waiting surrounded by problems and death. I don't want to spoil the movie so i will stop right here.Well i don't know if you will agree with me so just see the movie and reach your own conclusions because i am sure that everyone will find something different to say for the meaning of the movie.
Mysterious Skin (2004)
I 've lived it
I've read many of the reviews on this movie and i think that many of you haven't understood what's the movie trying to say. Many think that movie doesn't reach any clear conclusions but that's not right because it does. Many will ask how do i know .I know because i lived it not the same way as the heroes of the movie not something so hard but i 've sensed the same feeling but this feeling isn't clear in the movie much more for the people that haven't lived same experiences but it does exist under the surface.I can see the emptiness which is behind every action of the abused ,the heroes feel empty and they know the source but somehow they wil never be able to confront it i know this cause i can't confront it too.Yes it is true that when someone older abuses you there is a good feeling of the body and of the mind but the soul gets harmed forever because there is always a battle between our passions and our inner feelings our soul but somehow one day we must accept the truth of what we really feel and need and admit the source of our problems. The final scene of the movie show exactly this thing two teens admit unanimously the source of their problematic lives and the most important they admit that they have problems in their lives.SO THAT THEY CAN TRY AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
'Dedicated' to the haters
Before i wrote this review i was reading the reviews of the so-called ''haters'' and i couldn't stand it any more i wanted to answer to their words immediately. So this is for them.... I understand that nobody likes the same things but i think there is a limit to this rule and this movie is one of the limits.I could easily accept 10-30 very bad reviews but there are more than a hundred for this movie ,yes i'm speaking the truth, i surely do....There are so many people that hate this movie and that's a fact just read their own reviews. But, i am not going to criticize them, because it would be pointless... i am going to set the facts for this movie no... i am not going neither congratulate anybody nor say my opinion ...i just want to be clear... crystal clear. This movie is a mixture of emotions sadness,hope,despair,happiness,pain,sorrow,hatred,love.......and it goes on....like a poem. This movie refers to the reality through fantasy and it is a propaganda against the war just like the books of Tolkien and that is because in this movie you can easily distinguish peace and love from war and pain if you want it. This movie gives people to understand that nobody is perfect but this must not make us give up the 'fight', whatever the fight is.Everybody makes mistakes but after he falls to the ground he must rise up again and continue ...that's what frodo, sam, bilbo and of course boromir did.I am not trying to enlarge the meanings of the movie after all it is just a movie but the kind of movie that pushes ourselves a little more than others. I think that Tolkien would have loved the try that this movie made to express what he did....a masterpiece,if you excuse me, and an inheritance to everyone. Finally, i want to close this message with one more thing that many haters talked about and that is the difference between the characters in the film...........or maybe...yes...better say nothing...just see the movie dear 'haters'.
Spoorloos (1988)
Curiosity killed the cat
When i started watching this movie i wasn't very enthusiastic about the scenario, i was just searching for a good thriller to see depended on iambs' ratings.
This movie shocked me and i am talking seriously it was something so much different and mad that led my mind to complete heat.It wasn't the facts so much but the psychological background of 'the man' that 'descended' you so much and the gap in which this movie leads you which could be yours is so terrifying and revealing.'The curiosity killed the cat' as they say in Greece.
The truth is that the movie plays with something so deep....the needing to know.....or with other words.... the curiosity of the man which can ascend somebody so much but can also destroy a life. Could somebody carry the burden of not knowing what happened to somebody he used to love taking for granted that he will never see him/her again. And the most tremendous and disturbing everything happened all of a sudden....this could absolutely turn somebody mad.....but to understand what i am saying you have to see it, however even then i am not sure that you will be affected the same way with me but it's worth seeing a movie with a deep 'noema' and something to say . I suggest you seeing it alone because then it will affect your thoughts and feelings more without any disturbances.
Warrior (2011)
When wrestling takes over
What a rating!I just wonder why such a little movie deserves so much? I mean, come on people.....OK nick nolte's performance was something different he really deserves an applaud but nothing more...................
I 'll tell you what i think ....umm............bubbles,yes this movie shows the bubbles and the way they explode, interesting , isn't it?
OK just calm down i am becoming serious from now on...
I must admit that i don't appreciate wrestling movies because most of times they embellish violence make it seems like a heroic way to pass the difficulties in life.We all know what they really want to achieve with these movies......... make you YELL like a barbarian praying that the poor hero wrestler will smash the bad-ass giant enemy.
OK this movie is a little bit different, the scenario is a perfect idea and it could become a really good movie full of meaning but something went wrong. There was given too much emphasis on wrestling(especially at the last part of the movie) and this messed the whole idea it destroyed the perspective of creating something completely different.
The movie starts showing us a problematic relation between the remaining members of a broken family(each of them has his own problems too) and the way that they re-connect because of a wrestling championship in which they participate in different parts each one for his own reasons.
But as i said before things changes quickly to the worst when wrestling takes over.
Casino (1995)
No room for emotion into the casino
First of all i want to make clear that in my opinion casino is a high- standard movie as every Scorsese's film.BUT....it is the same thing all way back.To make myself clearer i am saying that if i didn't know the director i would easily understood who it would be.Scorcese is a master but he never changes his style even a bit. From the very beginning someone can assume the 'floating' of the movie.
I also have to say that i didn't feel sorry or something about the characters because the movie never let you think something away from the unstoppable narration so it is getting a bit confusing. In the end ,after the ''3 HOUR MESS'' i felt confused and i don't think that i enjoyed it so much.
From the other hand maybe that was the movie's goal, to confuse you by explaining how the things are going into the casinos and for what reason the 'holes' in the desert are created. Maybe Scorsese wanted to show us good fellas ,as always, that in crime there is no room for emotion.
