Masters of the Air: Part Five (2024)
Season 1, Episode 5
10/10
Best episode of the series
16 February 2024
The definitive episode by far!!!

This was by far and will probably standout as the best episode of the series.

You know the players , we know situations and it's a real detailed account of what the book tells.

This episode goes in by the horns, you can feel the build up of the tension to the battle and oh boy does it deliver!

. Taking place during the war where tensions were extremely high and the loss of bomber numbers was insane and the odds now against them.

The crews are on breaking point , after losing many good men, you can just tell they've seen enough but are getting on with the job.

I feel with all the naysayers griping about band of brothers comparisons , this is 'masters' bastone episode and it sits up there as a classic episode in TV.

The producers have been building up to this and it sure delivers.

10/10.

Masters of the Air: Part One (2024)
Season 1, Episode 1
10/10
What a pilot episode! We're off!!!
26 January 2024
It's finally here and it truly doesn't disappoint.

The attention to detail from book to screen from the production is a masterpiece.

The cast all portray their real life characters on point that you know you're gonna love them just like characters from BofB and the pacific.

It's dramatic , harrowing, insightful, and funny in parts which will make you care about these characters so much.

The ariel scenes are well executed , the build up to the bombing runs is relentless also portraying the many horrors and ordeals the book details.

If that's true I'll be holding my breath for what's coming!!!

This is true cinematic tv at its finest , what a way to start!

The Batman (2022)
7/10
a worthy addition to the Batman films
7 March 2022
After recent disappointments in hyped up films I was pleasantly surprised with 'the Batman' After the dark knight trilogy it does so well to be its own piece, when you'd think it may have no ideas of its own....but it really does.

It's well directed , with some great performances Featuring a great score , with some amazing action set pieces.

I'll admit it's very dark , at times I found it hard to focus in on the detail, the story is very dark but it's the first Batman to really ink out the dread all around. This may disappoint a few fun fanatics but it helps with the tone of the film At times it felt like it was dragging but it really ramped up near the end!

There's a feel from films such as seven , the crow , zodiac.

Pattinson really does his own thing as the Batman , it reminded me a bit of the 'Keaton' version but at times there's real power in his stare , his physicality , there's a lot that's not so obvious with the performance but I really felt it at times.

Zoe Kravitz is sleek and powerful too and I think it's one of her best roles to date.

Paul dano is just off the chain as the riddler but is enigmatic to watch.

Really like Colin Farrell penguin too so unrecognisable not just in make up but in his voice.

There's tiny hints at times of the previous films I'm not sure if intended but i found that a really nice reminder of what I loved about all the previous works here and there.

The finale really lifts things up where you may think the film lags and is the most superhero moment where everything comes full Circle in what the Batman stands for.

My only criticism is the running time which I'll admit did fly by but wonder how it'll effect other movie goers patience.

The lighting is so so dark at times it just kind of ruined the detail of the set designs. It's fine but might make you nod off

But I'm highly recommend this , and I'm Curious to see more from this production!!!

Scream (I) (2022)
5/10
Some Fun...yet disappointing sequel
14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The original scream has a special place in my heart growing up as a teen on its original release and cravens work throughout them all ,always had some nice touches.

I was excited about this new addition and after rave reviews I got hyped up In the last few weeks.

The first half starts off well, it's very aware of what's come before and pays its respects.

Yet I was expecting a lot more, there a few shocks for sure and little twists and turns but there are some major plot holes that I just can't ignore.

So how and when did billy loomis have a kid?

Nothing is explained about how this happened or who the mother was? This was so poor.

Shame as it was cool to see skeet ulrich pop up in sams visions but it can't be let off.

This is a slasher right , the killers were poor they only actually killed half they're attacked victims, I bet Myers & vorhees would be laughing themselves watching.

I actually guessed who they both were early on , maybe I've seen enough clues to know.

But they're motive was so weak, and was not sufficient enough.

Plus they had no endgame, all the original killers had a planned way out, these two were just dull.

It was nice to have some of the original characters back but was it me or were they hardly used at all?

David Arquette was probably the most present as Dewey who's character was the strongest throughout.

His end was pretty shocking but even I saw that coming.

As for Neve Campbell and Courtney cox I swear they're only around for the last 1/4. And don't look too bothered to be there.

This was so disappointing as I've loved how integral they're roles are over the course of the films series.

By all means it's entertaining, people will enjoy it I'll watch any scream film, it's a series of films I admire a lot.

This may sound like a rant but I'm a true fan of the original and I'm glad to see other reviews have bought up what I've mentioned too.

But I truly believe this is the last of the scooby doo esc teen slasher mystery in woodsborough.

There's only so much homage you can pay to the originals.

I'd like to see where else the series could go?

The Kindred (2021)
8/10
A solid , atmospheric and well crafted chiller
29 December 2021
There's a lot of slow burn psychological thrillers / horrors floating around these days.

Some not knowing what they want to be, or what they really are?

You can go into these films having higher expectations and being sorely mislead.

'The kindred' is a refreshing example of doing everything right and not trying to over achieve.

It knows what it wants to be and with a few unexpected surprises.

Things kick off really quick and just when you think it's nearing a drag it really picks up and doesn't stop right up-to the end.

For me its the characters that really drive events, portrayed all round by some real talent. There's a lot of actors in this I really admire, some I'd even go to say are highly underrated who fit they're roles perfectly and turn in some insanely strong performances.

A slight misconception as being a 'horror' maybe, some ghostly shock moments (executed very well) add to what is more a very dark murder mystery / thriller that wouldn't look out of place next the likes of a series such as 'Luther' or an abundance of bbc / uk film successes.

That being said, for an independent UK based film it's looks well polished, well directed and executed.

The script is well crafted and well researched.

Loved the score, really adds to atmosphere in scenes.

Really glad I experienced it and highly recommended it.
