Bin bian bu shi hai tang hong (2020)
If I can erase my memory of watching this and watch it again...I would.
Having knowing nothing about Chinese opera this show was a nice introduction to the art.
The costumes were beautiful and the songs as well.
The build up was a nice pace so it did not feel rushed or too slow. After we got the background from the majority of the characters we go into the story of Fengtai and Xirui.
Watching their bond grow with every episode was nice.
Towards the end of the series it was an emotional roller coaster with every one dying. The final episode with Xiang giving Fengtai a ticket for Xirui to leave with Hong Kong with them...seeing Fengtai get emotional. This series was amazing. Glad I took the time to watch.
Bump Up Business (2023)
A plot was there...
But it had a lot holes. It's hard to tell a story in 8 episodes under 30 minutes and this show proved for it to be a task. I watched plenty of shows that had the same amount time and succeeded with a cohesive sl. It felt rushed.
Ji Hoon fell for Eden fast. I think if it was a build up the show would have been a decent one. And for them to say "I love you" so soon was weird. I understand you work with each other but I still think it was too soon.
I also think that they should have addressed Ji Hoon's scandal. Did Ji Hoon know that his ex set up him his last debut? If they mentioned it. I missed it.
Kiseki: Dear to Me (2023)
The romance sold me but I think they should have focused on the "gang" plot at well.
I have to admit the plot was kinda confusing. I wished it focused more on the gang related plot because I feel like there were some plot holes. Even though I was able to put two and two together. The whole time I thought Zhang Teng* like Rhui* but that was not the case. It was a revenge thing. The first couple was nice to watch but I think their story line was predicable so that is where the 2nd one shined.
Ai Di was such a complex character. I almost wanted a spin off for background story for him. Tho the second did not have a lot time, watching them finally go from friends to more was nice.
Shan he zhi ying (2023)
Seemed like a promising series in the first half...
The first half of this series was well done. The introduction to the characters and how they were connected was explained well but it's like they changed writers and directors for the rest of the series.
It was hard to keep up if you just watched it. Meaning, if you cared to understand the constant twists you would have to look up reviews and come to a conclusion. But if you watched for it's entertainment value then it's fine.
The relationship between the two leads was random to me. I am not sure why Li Wu felt indebted to Lu Zheng when IMO Zheng did not return the favour. Sure he helped him. Maybe communication was an issue but he never stopped to think how he got off the first time when his adopted father stood outside begging for his sons mercy. .
When Lu Wi sacrificed his relationship with Zheng, Zheng acted irrationally towards Lu Wi but gave grace to Zhang Jun Qing. Zheng had the street smarts but when it came to those he really cared about reasoning was thrown out.
I kind of wanted Li Wu to leave with Shu Tang. She was more loyal to him than Zheng ever was. She was not mad at him when he left her countless times. She understood he did it for her. Shu Tang might have been dependent and loyal to fault but at least she took the time to see things from Lu Wi's point of view.
Lastly, the chemistry between Shu Tang and Lu Wi kept me tuned in. The ending almost made me cry. Their relationship saved the series for me.
