Blue Valentine (2010)
Breathtakingly Beautiful
Well there Ryan Gosling goes again with stealing our hearts in another beautiful and tragic love story. This movie literally took my breath away. I was in pure and utter shock as every minute passed. It was so different than what I had excepted when I began to watch it. From the opening scene to the ending credits, my eyes were not only hooked, but my heart was as well. It takes a hell of a lot of emotional stability to make a film like this and boy did Gosling and Williams do it. They had the most perfect connection of any two actors I have ever seen. In my opinion, this is some of their best work. Being an actor is about telling a story, but what they brought was so much more. They took me on a journey. I laughed, I cried (way too much), I lost and regained hope. My heart literally broke. I felt their pain. It taught me about love, loss, strength, and sacrifice. I questioned myself. I realized that we all make mistakes...but that we also have to learn from them. It showed me the immense power of love, and that it is not always good and pure. It can damage and destroy us, but it can also lift us up when nothing else can. Grab your tissue box when you go to watch this movie; you're gonna need it.
The Pill (2011)
A fun movie to watch with your friends
The title, along with the film cover are both pretty self explanatory. It may sound like a cliché type movie but once you give it a chance, you find it is not as bad as you would have thought. It provides many laughs but there are some heart touching moments as well. It's not so much like 'No Strings Attached' or 'Friends With Benefits' kind of deal. It's more of them wanting to prevent any problems in the aftermath of sex then just having sex and leaving it at that. I also liked how the stars were more of smaller known actors and not big Hollywood celebrities. It put more of a shine on them. Noah Bean and Rachel Boston are fantastic together. You can feel the chemistry between them from beginning to end. This may not be an award winning film, but hey not all of them have to be. It is a perfect fit if you're home with your friends and you just want to have a good laugh.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
A tragic love story
I had no idea what this was going to be about when I started watching it. it had four great actors that I liked so I decided to give it a whirl. and let me tell you, I was definitely not emotionally prepared for what I saw. This movie was so heartbreakingly beautiful that you feel almost compelled to watch it. When I started to discover what this movie was revolved around, I had no problem with it. I saw it as a love story like any other. Because that's exactly what it was. It was about two people struggling with their feelings and fighting with reality. But at the same time I couldn't help but feel bad for the families that they had created separately. As it wasn't fair for them not to be together, it wasn't fair for their families to be neglected. And Heath Ledger's marriage suffered from that. Which of course adds to the tragic of this story. Overall, I think that this was a movie that is very much needed and I hope people will see it for what it's worth.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)
Downey Jr. Has done it again!
Well it wasn't really a shocker that the fabulous Mr. Downey Jr. Has ceased to amaze us in his return of Holmes. Personally, I think this one outshines the first. Even though the first one was fantastic, this one just blew me away. It was full of suspense, mystery, and action that it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. When you would think that it would come to the end, it just kept going. It was one of those movies that had me disappointed when the credits rolled in. It defiantly left me hungry for more. It also had its perfect amount of humor. With Holmes sass filled attitude and Watsons series but calm wits, this dynamic duo did not fail to make the audience laugh. I also enjoyed the new characters that were brought it. Jared Harris did an excellent job of portraying the spine chilling doctor villain. And sadly with the mysterious death of Rachel McAdams that Disappointed us all, there was a new heroine that came into the picture. Noomi Rapace, who played the beautiful and sneaky Madam Sim, was a very interesting newcomer. It was definitely a different mix with the two heroes, but her role Was a key to the mystery and She fit In just right with the rest of the cast. I've seen the movie three times since it was released in December and I cannot wait till its out on DVD. If you have not seen it yet, I would very much recommend this on your list the next time you are looking for something to do on a Friday evening.
