Fallout (2024)
Knocked it out of Diamond city ball park!
I've waited years for this, as a huge fallout fan and they certainly didn't disappoint. There was only one spot where I was thinking it had wishy washy cgi and I'm sure everyone will agree that otherwise it's fantastic. The story was strong and engaging, the characters were super entertaining and had depth. If you're a fallout fan there is tons to look at and be reminded of the games you grew up on and love. I honestly don't know how I can do anything other than praise them for making a show that added to the world instead of doing it damage. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next. Kudos to everyone who worked on this. The actors were incredible!
Extraction 2 (2023)
Sad follow up that doesn't hold up compared to the first.
Don't trust any review you read that says it's as good or better than the first. There's no comedy, the fights don't feel nearly as intense, the long camera shots don't hold the same weight and it just feels bland. I honestly fell asleep many times through it and had to rewatch it over and over to finally get through it. Whereas the first was one of the best action movies that year. Don't get me wrong it still has some entertaining moments but it just doesn't compare. The moments they try to be funny don't land and sometimes the action is just downright stupid. I was super excited for this sequel and it just doesn't land.
The Sandman (2022)
Thoroughly enjoyed - have no knowledge of the property this is based on.
I'm seeing negative reviews saying it's nothing like the source material etc. I went into this with no knowledge of that material and found I thoroughly enjoyed this through and through. For anyone that enjoys fantasy I would suggest giving it a try. It picks up after the first episode which was still gripping to me. The main actor is absolutely fantastic and the main "villain" let's say is also as well. I find myself very excited for season two and hope it's green lit as soon as possible. I was also very happy to see it was 11 episodes rather than the standard 8 of late. That much more content to enjoy before you have to wait for the next instalment.
The Northman (2022)
Not at all what I expected - sadly
I did make it through the film, although I fell asleep twice for 30 seconds or so. Yes it was that boring. After seeing the trailer and loving all the main actors I was pumped for this movie. First off the first you see in the trailer are the only fights in the movie saving the final scene. They're not well choreographed and could have been much better and everything in between is a jumble of thinking you should be high to watch this and complete nonsense. My partner and I had more fun talking about how bad it was during the movie than we did watching it. Huge disappointment for myself.
The King's Man (2021)
I was excited, then I was bored.
I was very excited for this movie as I enjoyed both of the previous renditions. Sadly about 20 minutes into this movie I started to feel slightly bored and by the time the first major fight took place I was wondering what I was watching.
Finally something happened that I enjoyed and immediately it was followed up with something so stupid that I just decided to leave. I've walked out of two movies now. This and pathfinder.
I will add I had a slight headache which probably made me less accepting of the flaws.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
How could they go so wrong.
The movie opened and 10 minutes in I found myself wondering what I was watching. I knew then this wasn't the same as the first one. I loved the first one, 8/10 for me. This movie was so off the mark. I kept thinking who wrote this, how did it go so wrong and why are these dumb things constantly happening. First one had great story telling, comedy and fantastic action. This had none of that.
Will sadly never watch again.
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
Simple pure genius.
You will not be disappointed if you watch this. Bo finds a way to make us laugh about the insanity we're living in right now and by being dead honest. It's incredible.
I Care a Lot (2020)
So promising but dies a horrible boring death.
This movie starts off so promising, in fact all the actors are great. But very quickly you realize how far from any type of reality this is. No one is able to kill anyone properly and someone that takes advantage of the elderly is some type of spy genius that isn't afraid of anything. Honestly it lost traction about 30 minutes in when it should have been getting better.
New Amsterdam (2018)
Gripped me from the start!
Very few shows grab me as quickly as this one did. Max is such an in-depth character with so many dimensions the intrigue doesn't stop. Also it's full of one liners which is one of my favourite parts of shows, just trust me you won't be disappointed.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I just made 50,000 today and this movie still put me in a bad mood.
No joke, I was having an amazing day and was so excited for this movie. What a perfect way to cap off an incredible day. Instead I found myself laughing at how horribly wrong the direction they took was. Honestly how someone goes from directing the first masterpiece to this crap boggles my mind.
Maybe 15 minutes of action and none of it remotely on the same level as the first movie. Bringing back Steve was a joke and didn't advance the plot in anyway. Honestly just sad.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Enjoyed every second!
It's rare these days to watch a movie and enjoy all aspects of it. That is precisely what happened with this movie. First I'll say I love Sherlock Holmes in all his renditions and I did not come into this hoping it would be about him as clearly so many others did. Do not let the negative reviews fool you, this is an excellent story with great Easter eggs to the originating masterpiece.
Millie is an amazing young actress and absolutely perfect in the role. The older Holmes have been wonderfully cast and the young duke added great chemistry.
All in all if you watch this for what it is, you'll thoroughly enjoy yourself. If you're expecting a lot of Sherlock then you'll be disappointed. In my opinion they had the perfect amount to enhance the story and not distract from it.
Enjoy! lol
The Sleepover (2020)
Painful to watch
This movie has so many completely nonsensical moments it's just painful to watch. Even the comedic relief is just painful. What was everyone involved thinking when signing on for this?
Space Force (2020)
Watch for yourself.
Trust me, I don't write reviews ever. Seeing that this has a 6ish rating and some people have written horrible reviews blows my mind. This show is inventive, hilarious, intelligent and stupid all at the same time. The characters are developed well and have created great connections. Steve and John are incredible together and I wish there were 5 more seasons to watch right now.
Hanna (2019)
Who wrote this junk. Amazing premise ruined.
Hanna has an amazing premise behind it and it seems this show has decided to throw that out the window and focus on a teenage girl who's yet to experience life. There a full episodes that have next to nothing to do with the whole action or thriller side of this story. Be warned this is nothing like the movie and has next to no action.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Amusing at times but unbearable at others.
I don't write reviews often because I'm told I nitpick which isn't fair, but I have to say this movie lost me almost right from the beginning. The opening scene was quite ridiculous on both counts - yup I'm talking about the preface being 9 years earlier and the opening surrounding good ole Jack himself. I literally cringed into the side of my girlfriend as I couldn't believe what had just happened twice. I grew up with the pirates series and the first 2 were quite incredible, they've gone down hill since, and by down hill I mean more and more outrageously hard to believe. The first movie and almost the second you could stow away your better judgment or understanding of physics and science and accept it for what it was, a swashbuckling good time. Now you have to be outright stupid, or mindless to not want to question who the heck wrote this movie... It still passes the two hours well, but there were too many moments that I almost couldn't bare to watch.
Hitman: Agent 47 (2015)
It's exactly what it was meant to be!
I'm going to keep this review light.
If you grew up loving the 47 series, or have only recently become a fan... well then no matter what you will like this movie.
It's a video game adaptation that is fantastic, the homage paid to the game is great, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed Rupert Friend as Agent 47. He was actually incredible. All the actors were great.
Watch it as an action movie, or as a version of the game and you'll love every minute.
I hope they make many more!
