Blood of Zeus (2020)
Great if you're only watching it in the background
The animation seems to be both a big problem for some reviewers and a favorite part of others and I think that has a lot to do with fantastic and beautiful backgrounds contrasted with animation that feels unpolished/rushed at times. So someone watching this show passively while doing something else would glance up occasionally and see the beautiful backgrounds with a powerful score and think that it was epic, while someone actively giving it their attention would notice the flaws in the animation and see the score as not always fitting to the less than epic scenes being presented.
The story, like the animation, also felt rushed, but at the same time felt overly inflated with nothing (like long scenes of people walking) like it was rushing from story point to story point but lingering at each point for usually no real substantial reason. The characters themselves felt underdeveloped, which made most of their relationships feel very shallow, forced and seemingly out of nowhere (this mostly applies to the nongod characters as Zeus and Hera's relationship was the only one that felt fleshed out in any way). I think total there are, arguably, 4 main characters and 4+ supporting characters which seems like way too many to develop properly in 8 30minute episodes filled with a lot that didn't seem to develop anyone.
Overall, it was a story that suffered because of how it was broken up and divided between what felt like pointless characters because of lack of development. I think this story could have been told better if it had been cut down into a 2h movie length, a two part "limited series" or given more time per episode to develop fewer characters in a way that moves the story forward at the same time.
Welcome to Sudden Death (2020)
You won't miss out on anything if you give this a pass
Imagine an action film from the 80s/90s: Bad guys take over a place and the protagonist has to fight through them to save the day. Now, imagine all of the cheap knock offs, parodies and satires of those classics. This one tried to be both and a good movie was not the result.
The action was just stitched together fight scenes with every punch and kick requiring its own edit. The humor was bad, oh so bad, but if the writing and/or acting hadn't seemed like 95% of it was being phoned in it could have been so bad it was good instead of just bad. Nothing any of the characters said felt natural in any way.
It almost seemed like this film started out as a kid friendly action film where the stakes were low and it was supposed to be more goofy than serious, but something happened along the way where that idea was scrapped but nothing was changed except gore being added to bump the rating up to an R. What's left is an awkwardly goofy movie that takes itself way too seriously. The two leads were the most okayish things in the movie even though they're just "generic action hero" and "generic evil guy."
Overall, it's a generic action flick that doesn't add anything new or do a whole lot well. If you've got the time to waste give it a watch, but avoid it if you value your time.
