Blade: Trinity (2004)
OK, not great.
I just saw Blade Trinity tonight. This was really not as good as either the first or the second I thought. First of all was it's reliance on comedy. Reynold's Hannibal King was way too much like Van Wilder: Vampire Liason. Always with a wisecrack but never with the characterisation (even though the line 'You c*ck juggling thunder-c*nt!!' was a classic). Biel's Abagail was just there to fluff the screen with some hotness. I felt she needed more backstory regarding her and her dad. Not enough dimension to the characters. Snipes, as usual, is cool and kicking some. I feel he's gone as far as he's going to with this character though. The bad guy? Not as cool or suave as Deacon Frost (Blade) or as tortured and emotive as Novak (Blade 2). He lacks any real definition and as such is just there for Blade to punch and banter with. The fight scenes (especially the opening ones) have been done before and done better in the previous films. The soundtrack again, done better in Blade. Overall, I liked this film and recommend it for fans of the series. It could've been done better, but it could've been done a whole lot worse.
3 out of 5
This of course is just my opinion, but vampire dogs??? Whats that all about???
Troy (2004)
Pompous...but enjoyable for a while i suppose
This adaptation of the legends of Troy is a mixed bag. It strives to achieve a feeling of epic-ness yet fails on a lot of levels. First, character delevopment...where is it? Of them all, only Bana's character Hector is allowed any sort of emotional range. Pitt's Achilles is arrogant, distant and emotional stunted and Bloom's Paris is mearly window dressing.
The score is pompous and pretentious...large orchestarial sweeps for little things happening on screen that don't deserve out emotional concern.. Dialogue is taken from the script of 'Gladiator'..eg 'our actions in life echo through time'...out love will survive in this life or the next' etc. Overall...a pale attempt at an epic...even if the action sequences DO rock. Pitt is a bit of a geezer with the sword if i say so myself

Glitter (2001)
My Heavens....
I had this film bought for me and i have to say that the muppet who got it me (Kirkers).....well, its pretty obvious that he has no soul. The film is awful with one of the worst moments in the history of film (18mins 40secs ish) If you only watch one film this year, don't watch Glitter. For the sake of all that is holy. Glitter really does fester in its own excremental slop.
And that's only because i own it.
Split Second (1992)
Split Second, all it takes to like this film.
This is one of those films you see on ITV at 2.20am Thursday morning. Its consigned to forever be overlooked, stepped on and pushed away. But it's also a b-movie of extraordinary magnitude. A mix of horror, action, breasts(Kim Cattral's, not Rutger Hauer's!) and witty one liners. It never seeks to be better than it is, and in doing so is all the better for it.
With a name like Dick Durkin in the credits, you know you're in for a treat. True, the ending crumbles somewhat(kinda like monty python + holy grail i thought), but the rest of the film is low budget gold. The use of London is great, and the supporting characters such as Cattral and Pete Postlethwaite lend some gravitas to the movie also.
Its a fun way to spend a few hours if you dont have the company of a good women.
Any film where a police officer can call a guard dog a 'dickhead' has to worth it's weight in platinum....
Remember....if you're gonna watch it, be sure to get some BIGGER F**KING GUNS!!!!!!!
The Crow (1994)
One of the noir classics (How I stopped worrying and learned to love 'The Crow')
This film got inside my soul. The story is so familiar and yet so much more touching and beautiful than so many other attempts of the same story. This captures and keeps what the film(and indeed the graphic novel) is all about....Love. That's what drives Eric Draven and watching this film, you soon want Eric and Shelly to be re-united forever. It's also very funny (in that black humour we smirk at but never laugh out loud at) The action scenes are also excellent and the acting is very downplayed. Lee obviously loved his character. (There's that word again. Love.)
The music only deepens the feeling of the darkness in the world of 'The Crow'. A masterpiece of simplistic storytelling with real heart, fire and life in a film about Love, pain and death. If you've seen it, you should know what i'm rambling on about. If you've not seen it....watch it and LOVE.
