GAR's Masterpiece - Truly.
14 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Just got back from the "industry screening" of Land, with GAR in attendance (5 rows ahead of me).

Not to give out any spoilers, because I won't...but this film rocked. Does it have a different feel than Night, Dawn, and Day? Of course it does...why? Because of the fact that it's 2005, and movie making has changed over the course of the years. And also, this wasn't an independent film in the same way the other three were.

BUT, what they got away with, gore-wise, was absolutely incredible. My buddy and I were laughing with glee through the entire flick at all of the violence. Let me put all doubts to rest: This IS a George A Romero zombie film. This is NOT a rip-off...it's the real deal. Head shots, decapitations, zombie biting people with the typical fleshy ripping...intestines...the works. I was SHOCKED at the amount of gore they managed to get into the film. I spoke with the Production Manager after wards, and he assured me that the gore in the film is NOTHING compared to what's going to be on the DVD. Oh, and on the way out, I got to shake GAR's hand and tell him that this is an incredible film. Honestly, it's this generation's "Dawn". (And yes, that means it's more fast paced etc etc, which some purists might be ticked off about). And when I say this is this generation's "Dawn", I mean THIS is the zombie movie people will remember years from now. It totally blows the other recently released zombie flicks (including the Dawn remake) out of the water.

The acting was excellent all around...and I mean all around. There were no bad performances. Even Dennis Hopper and John Leguizamo, who both were put down on the message board for being in the film, were amazing. Hell, even the zombies kicked ass.

Anyway, that's all I'll say. You guys will either love it or hate it. I loved it.

Final word: Watch for the priest zombie. You'll know what I mean when you see it...hilarious. And watch for the arm scene...a hand upheld in a foggy mist...you'll understand when you see that too. Also, watch for the hilarious departure of two of Dennis Hopper's assistants...his personal assistant and his butler. LOL funny.

Eddie Murphy: Delirious (1983 TV Special)
One of the funniest things I have ever seen
26 January 2004
It seems that the majority of people who have given comments on this movie have said how funny it is. I have to agree. 100%. I was 13 when I first heard an audio tape of this, and, as you'd imagine, I was laughing so hard it made me cry. Funny thing is, I've heard the material 100 times since then, and it never loses its ability to make me laugh. Obviously this isn't for people who are offended easily...but if you can suspend your politically correct nature (trust me, I'm very PC, but I'm also able to laugh at good comedy), you'll really enjoy this. It is Eddie Murphy's crowning glory as a stand-up. It's too bad that he doesn't do stand-up any more. I'm certain most of us would love to see him have another go at it.

My brain hurts...
23 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
OK...this MAY contain Spoilers...but who really cares? Do not, if you value the seconds in your life, waste your time on this pile of garbage. There is not one redeeming quality in this movie...and I say that as a full fan of the Vacation Series of movies. I LOVED the Cousin Eddie character from the other Vacation movies...but he only works well as a supporting character. Do I blame Randy Quaid for the failure of this movie? Not at all. I think he's a great actor...but this film lacks any cohesion...the pacing is off...it's just plain unfunny. And the actor who plays the "Third"...Jake Thomas...was just awful, more than likely due to a real lack of direction. I don't know why...but his whole character creeped me out.

Some people say that this is a horrible movie because Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo aren't in it...that has nothing to do with it. The script, directing, acting...special effects...everything is a train wreck. With Orphans. And kittens. Oh...and the Train ran over some old people too.

Please, whatever you do...stay away from this filth! I call it filth because it dirties the name of the Vacation Franchise.

The Midnight Hour (1985 TV Movie)
A great Halloween Movie
6 November 2003
I am a huge horror movie fan...and normally "Made for TV Movies" based on Halloween or horror usually stink (either because of lack of money, lack of real scares and/or gore...lack of plot...etc)...The Midnight Hour, on the other hand, is a great little Made for TV Horror movie!

I remember seeing this film when it first aired in 1985...and just falling in love with it. At that point, I had just discovered "Dawn of the Dead", and was really into the whole "Dead coming back to life" type of movie...and this one really hits the mark. Admittedly, it's tame compared to movies released with an R rating...but it's an incredible movie that both kids and adults can enjoy! And, it's VERY creepy in parts...especially when the two leads are driving through the town square, which has become inhabited by the living dead.

After seeing it the first time in 85, I watched for it every year afterwards...only seeing it rarely. Kind of a disappointment that it wasn't on a lot...but it did make it more special when it WAS on. How happy was I when, about 5 years ago, I found a VHS copy of it in the local video store! I bought a copy, and now get to watch it whenever I want (well...at Halloween anyway).

Let's face it...this movie can probably be seen as kind of cheesy in that it was made in the 80's...we really didn't know how to dress back then! But it has great music (especially the song "How Soon is Now" by The Smiths. Its inclusion happens at a very cool part of the movie), some really good scares...and is a pretty cool movie to watch after coming home from trick or treating on Halloween! If you're looking for a movie where people get ripped apart, swear a lot, show nudity...this isn't going to be the one for you. But if you'd like a fun movie, that is creepy, and has a good story (well, aside from the whole werewolf thing...THAT kind of throws me every time I watch it)...then pick up this one!
