Napoleon (2023)
What the heck Ridley. Wasted movie
It started with accents throwing me off. French people with British accents, American accents, all over the place-completely taking me out of the film. Not even Napoleon? WTH? That may seem like nitpicking, but it a huge part of the history. I'd have even taken subtitles over what was done. When watching a historical film, part of the essence is the culture and the language, and with it being so all
Over the place, I never once found myself fully invested.
I didn't care what happened. Very slow, never captured me a bit, and honestly I felt it a total waste of the Joaquin 's talent in whatever Ridley was after. I was so bummed. I couldn't even finish it. I was counting down to see this too.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
I fear we might have peaked at Endgame...
This will not be long, but seriously. Read some other reviews, and you'll get the idea of what's wrong here.
For me: Too much going on. I personally didn't care for Elfman's score as I always do, but that's me. The America Chavez character? No. Sorry. Won't hate, but definitely won't appreciate, ever. That jacket, personality? It didn't fit at ALL. Felt like a screen test or two would have solved for that. Lol. I'll stop there, but I most definitely could go on.
Wanda and Strange? On par, exactly what'd you expect. Excellent.
Cameo's? Quick and purpose serving, but I was left wanting a bit more there.
Storyline? It's a multiverse story. If you try and stop to REALLY think about an infinite multi-faceted universe, no plot line would ever be conceivable. Get over it people! It worked, it's entertainment!
All in all, now seeing it twice, had higher expectations, but I am learning to grasp in the reality that we could have seen the peak of this whole MCU at Endgame.
Nothing since has had the feel that our legacy teams had.
I know the 'show must go on'--but how long can we digest what's coming out in comparison to what we've been given?
All I saying is, you can't give us Ruth Chris steak and attempt to serve us Black Angus afterwards.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
What did I watch? Did I miss something? Very underwhelmed, so much hype and no delivery. Bummed
That pretty much sums it up. We see random characters at their younger ages, glimpses of Tony Soprano and nothing close to what was expected. Acting was great, although a few tried a little too hard (Sylvio (?) ) for damn sure seems like a caricature, and others did so well you knew who they were on sight. Gandolfini's son, spot on, massive kudos, as this couldn't have been easy for him at all. Would have loved to see more of him.
Stories seemed all over the place, and I feel as though this could have been a better home in the series format as opposed to a film. Shame, It'd have crushed with where it could go! With David Chase at the helm, I thought for sure this was a winner out the gates.
Damn...well, so much potential, so very much wanted to enjoy this, but I'm just left missing Sopranos more than I was after two hours of this.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Give it a shot, everyone feels something different. But for me the pieces didn't fit
Some spoilers...Well, to start off with, great score, great actors. Great set work, costume design and special effects.
For me, the story felt overwhelmingly cheesy sadly, as it started with a great potential concept showing us why Wonder Woman gave up on humanity. Had the Cheetah never been in it, that's would have been a plus. Kristen Wig, who I love in other stuff, didn't fit here for me at all. At ALL. And I hate saying that. There's some source material to choose from and others you shouldn't; , and when you have one of the villains show up and like nightmare version of cats and expect us to believe in it, it's impossible. Especially since she basically beat the devil in WW1, yeah. There's no comparison.
The overall arch did have heart, show our dark side and selfish tendencies, and resonated with me in its meaning. I get it. I'd have walked away from humanity after that too.
Casting was awkward sometimes, like the villains son. There wasn't anyone else could have been cast that was more believable as his son! Seriously?
I don't know how I would have personally made it different to enjoy more, but it's just got me feeling off. Not like I felt at the end one WW1.
And sorry...trying to throw in the previous woman in here just for nostalgia, lame. Seriously. That was then, this is now...move along, maybe with a short cameo for crowd please. Some peoples acting, or lack there of, become more apparent and all they do is play an attempt at once was and can barely pull it off.
All in all, not the worst, but felt off to me. Seen it twice, and no change in feeling. Could I sit through it again as my daughter loves it? Sure, that I could do.
Truth Be Told (2019)
The 3 is for the participation of Aaron Paul and Lizzy Caplan
Crap. Can't finish it, unbelievable podcaster who sees one video and then starts causing a raucous in anyone's life she can to try and figure out if she was wrong in her writing that helped convict an under age minor. I'd continue watching if the story focused on the lizzy and Aaron, but this can't happen and the main character for me isn't a part I believe Spencer had any part playing. It tries too hard to be somewhat cool, and slightly sways and shifts to dark, but it never pans out or finds its way.
And even with Araon Paul and Lizzy, I can't finish it.
I'll tell you one thing; the team who made the trailer gets an A+. You fooled me!
In Full Bloom (2019)
I'll make it simple. Watch this movie. It's gorgeous, carrying depth, humanity and passion throughout. Go. NOW.
There is beauty in this film that you will rarely find in cinema nowadays. Every single shot has been so painstakingly crafted, colors exuberantly vibrant, with the scenery carefully chosen for each location so uniquely palpable it's breathtaking at even the most simple of moments.
The story is about a boxing match, but if you think that's the core of its purpose, you are inherently mistaken. This is about a fight yes, but a fight within ourselves is harder to overcome than merely hand to hand combat.
The score is absolutely incredible, transcending you with each scene as it lays perfectly balanced with you emotionally.
'I suppose everyone is lost in their own wilderness.' To quote Masahiro, you will definitely find yourself in the wilderness of our characters, as there is everything you'd want in this story, with challenges and relationships built that you will carry with you long after this is over. You will laugh at loud at some moments, breaking you from the weight this fight has over beloved main characters. It does more than entertain, its invokes FEELING.
The battle between these two warriors and within themselves is elegantly fought, purposely displayed for our minds to wander into our own battles.
It's passionate. It's rage. It's palpable emotionally. Its cuts deep into the true unwavering reminder of our own mortality.
'Life is so tragically short, but beautiful.'
It's everything I want in a story, and it's everything YOU should want. Well done team, well done.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Garbage
Seriously? Everyone watch the same movie I did? I have two kids and even they couldn't sit still from the horrible rediculous 'noise' this sad attempt at a movie made. Watched four couples walk out, and on a Saturday, maybe six people in the theatre after the others left. The casting of the male lead kid was atrocious, cgi as bad as Steppenwolf in Justice League, and the only thing it had going for it was Christophe, and a few actual actors, (Jennifer Connolly, Mr. Ali..). Other than that, it was pretty rediculous all the way through. Not a laugh from anyone in my family, nor anyone else. Likable main character couldn't hold her on with the stupidity of the premise, and as much as the cast and the art department tried, I couldn't buy into any of their acting, or their world. All in all, big budget CGI sadness. Kids were even more mad than I was. Refund please
