Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Trying too hard
Trying too hard to be stunning and brave, which is hard to be in 2022 where everything is considered 'problematic'.
Bad acting and even worse writing; Johnny Depp being asked to step down was just one of many mistakes that made fans like me walk away; glad I skipped the theaters on this one.
"Hate and bigotry", indeed.
Community: Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television (2015)
"TV is at its best when it's not pushing an agenda"
Great episode, not a great season.
Harmon is a genius, "Boring a** Marvel movies".
#sixseasonsandamovie
This review is one hundred and fifty characters long.
Doctor Who: The Long Game (2005)
Episode has aged very well
Excellent commentary on modern news corporations in 2021, the distrust thereof, and the dangers of echo-chambers and group think.
Best summed up in the following dialog between The Doctor and The Editor (Simon Pegg):
The Editor: "Today, we are the headlines. We can rewrite history. We can prevent mankind from ever developing."
Doctor: "And no one's gonna stop you, because you bred a human race which doesn't bother to ask questions; Stupid little slaves believing every lie. They'll just trot right into the slaughter house if they're told it's made of gold."
IMDB would not allow me to add a new quote for this episode, so I couldn't put this where it belonged, but hopefully, someday, one person will see it here and will think for themselves and overcome the controlling system that feels inevitable.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Breaking Brad (2021)
Many people lost the point
Rachel assumed that strait white men have been handed everything in life because she lives in a noisey echo chamber. Ian helped her understand that she's been so busy playing the victim that she'd been missing all the opportunities made available to her. This episode is great because it goes against the modern indoctrination that pits women against men, and actually teaches self accountability. I was caught off guard, because most shows in 2021 lean into the "misogyny" and "sexism" so much that it's become a boring, tired trope. 10/10.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Everlight (2021)
Close enough to perfect
Close to perfect, far better than the Quarantine episode, which was only rated higher because of the Rube Goldberg style ending. This has a great story, cinematics, andcinematic, 10/10.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Titans' Rift (2021)
Mostly great episode!
This episode's main story involves the power struggle associated with Poppy's "new" position (albeit not really new considering the promotion took place halfway through season 1) as co-creator. It's approached intelligently and honestly refreshing (from a 2021 perspective, that is).
The true beauty of this episode comes from it's -almost- dominating, and much anticipated, B-story: the beginning of Rachel and Dana's relationship! The writers did a good job of highlighting the unique difficulties of exploring a new relationship in the modern day, particularly when Rachel has a dialog with the head of HR about "not wanting to offend Dana", regarding her sexual preferences. Ironically, in the end, (SPOILER:) the two meet in a garage and Dana passionately kisses Rachel without consent or warning.
I was happy to see them finally start the relationship we all knew would materialize since the pilot episode, but I couldn't help but think of the double-standard of an unprovoked, sexual advance like that in a post "Me Too" era. I suspect that, because Dana is a female it's okay that she didn't need consent.
Although, from a creative standpoint, it begs the question: What if Rachel was NOT okay with it? What could have happened to the dynamic, or relationship then?
Cruella (2021)
Basically Modern Disney
It's what you'd expect from Disney today, stunning and brave women and weak male characters who sit in the background like idiots.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Rascals (1992)
Fricking love this episode!
Funny, interesting, unique, and a good story to boot. Everything one looks for in a good episode, but I wish it was an hour longer! Easily my favorite.
Psych: A Nightmare on State Street (2014)
Lives up to 'Nightmare'
Went out of my way to come here to say this was my least favorite episode by a long shot.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Who Watches the Watchers (1989)
Ten out of as many
As perfect an episode as it gets. This episode is very similar to one The Orville did, another great series that pays homage to TNG, and all Star Trek.
Batwoman: What Happened to Kate Kane? (2021)
I can't even
At this point, it cannot be real life this... see the title.
Doctor Who: Rosa (2018)
Insanely preachy and condescending
Basically going back 60 years to prove racism still exists today. This episode was literally the moment I realized that Dr Who was just virtue signaling and LITERALLY had the opposite affect on me, it woke me up, or rather it un-woke me up
Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks (2021)
Sick to my stomach
I don't know why I was excited about a female doctor, I've never been this disappointed. I don't even totally blame Jodie, its partly/mostly the writing. Dr. Who is just completely over, they literally cannot come back from this catastrophic failure.
Baroness Von Sketch Show (2016)
Surprisingly funny!
Just like any sketch show, there are strong and not-so-strong bits, but on the whole they manage a laugh at least twice per sketch. Consisting of an all female cast, the POV is unique, when compared to other sketch-comedy series. What's most refreshing is their commitment to not rely on political references for humor, which opens them up to a larger demographic. (*as of season 3)
