Intriguing indie whodunit..
18 June 2020
Though the film is set in just one location, probably 2-3 rooms, the intrigue and the mystery never leaves you..with a short run time..this is an easy watch for anyone looking for something simple but well made..

Djinn (2013)

A good attempt!!! not a great movie though..
21 September 2014
I have been keenly awaiting the release of this film for a while now mainly as the film has been shot & takes place in U.A.E (where I reside) & is based around the legends of Jazeerat Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah! To add to the excitement, Tobe Hooper, the man behind Poltergeist & Texas Chain Saw series is directing this film. Unfortunately Djinn kinda disappointed me; the predictable plot, excessive use of not very good CGI & cliché jump scares was kind of fail. Tobe Hooper manages to create an intense environment & tries to build up the predictable suspense while throwing in some random sequences but ends up rushing into climax without any acknowledgement of what was actually happening! The actors did a fine job in certain sequences. Nevertheless given the budget & a fresh attempt on an almost unused supernatural anomaly, Djinn is not a terrible film, but could have been better though!

Liam Neeson is Awesome!!!!
19 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Liam Neeson is awesome & yes he has nailed it again in this well crafted thriller!! Even though the initial plot is kinda of a cliché, but the intense & gritty setting of NYC manages to keep you hooked on for its nearly 120 minutes run time. People who are looking for a "Taken" type of film will be quite disappointed, as this more of "The Grey" kind of film, in other words, less action more crime drama. There's a slight humor added well to the on going proceedings by Brian "Astro" Bradley which is sure to be lapped up by everyone. I wasn't particularly happy with David Harbour & Adam Thompson's portrayals as the killers, but the grisly glimpses into the killers' barbaric methods in bits and pieces are sure to churn your stomach. The real winner of this film is the brilliantly crafted screenplay & gritty direction of Scott Frank. Overall A Walk Among the Tombstones is a grim, mournful, and often graphically violent detective drama, which may not appeal to everyone, but being a fan of the detective noir genre, oh please give more!!

Hate Story 2 is a shaky mess of a film
20 July 2014
Well, its totally no connection prequel wasn't a great film either, but frankly it had its moments, while this film has nothing going for itself except a couple of performances & music! The plot is predictable from the word go, & serious standing ovation to the writers!! They made sure the actors had unintentionally the funniest lines in the most intense sequences. The direction is fine, but with the such predictable plot, the over toned violence could have been easily cut down. The only saving graces of this film is the soothing music & the exceptional performances from Sushant Singh & Surveen Chawla. Jay Bhanushali is likable but has a very minor role, no idea why he signed up for this as his big screen debut. Overall Hate Story 2 is a shaky mess of a film riding heavily on its exceptional performances & popular music.
