Convicting a Murderer (2023)
Disappointed
Really disappointed so far with this series (3 episodes in). The case centres around murder where beyond reasonable doubt must be the test applied but the first 3 episodes feels like a character assassination based on a group of family or friends of Avery who've all got motives to discredit him, thereby not meeting the reasonable doubt test. There's no evidence presented just here say and police reports whose officers had a strong contempt for Avery based on his previous convictions and behaviour. The case of Teresa Halbach was murder which the Netflix focused on in both series, looking at evidence and the process of justice , which they highlighted as concerns for those looking inwards at the case. It's fine to critically evaluate someone's past behaviour to align with their ability to commit a murder. It where are the recognised psychologists who can provide professional opinions of Averys behaviour , or the respected justice gatekeepers who can really drill down and analyse the murder case in terms of distributive, interactions and procedural justice. So was the case outcome sound? Were the dependents and victims treated properly during case ? Was a proper process followed throughout the case? The making a murderer series cast reasonable doubt on all 3 elements of justice and provided a reasonable doubt which is why it has been so popular. Candace is such a force for good.and usually gets to the main issues within the subject matter but this felt like it was a character assassination rather than a proper evaluation of a flawed documentary which it could have been if it focused on the theories of justice and whether they were met or not. The over dramatised music is a giveaway that this is badly produced and it jumps from one topic to another without having an appropriate segue. Really disappointed.
Christmas Break-In (2018)
Bloopers were the best bits
Stunned how bad this film was! Can't believe they got Danny Glover to star in it
Peterloo (2018)
Insult to northerners
This film is a disgrace and quite frankly an insult to people from Manchester (Lancashire). I though it was a Brass Eye production at one point. How they got some of the excellent staff to join this mess of a film is a mystery.
It's told In a long drawn out fashion which can be done in a really good way, but the characters were something Monty Python would have created.
For such an important film to Mancunians and working class people across the North West this film was a shambles and a complete let down.
The Wife (2017)
Bland and predictable
Extremely boring with some good acting , but the story plods along with the usual predictable outcomes of each segment of the film.
