Triple 9 (2016)
Awesome Cast in a Decent Intense Heist Film
Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, and Norman Reedus. To say I was excited to see this film is an understatement. Directed by John Hillcoat, Triple 9 is about a crew of criminals and corrupt cops that have to pull off one last heist and the best way to distract the police is to kill one of there own. For the most part this film delivered. There are three awesome action set pieces that happen in the film. Each time the stakes intensify and things slowly start to fall apart. The corruption and betrayal results in a blood path, with the film doing a great job by never letting a character feel safe. I really liked how the film is mainly focused on our criminals. It makes the scenes with Casey Affleck being the only good cop really intense. Woody Harrelson plays a version of the character from True Detecitve only in this he's x3 the mess. Lastly mentioning the criminals and corrupt cops. Every one does there job really well with Ejiofor and Mackie being the stand out. The cinematography and score is really well done. When people's life is endanger it's extremely intense. If this film would of stuck the landing it would of been a great film instead of just a good film. There are typical cop tropes in the film but it's forgivable. The third act loses a lot of it's momentum and isn't as exciting as the scenes prior to it. The characters left standing and the resolution is a little unsatisfying. At the end of the day the ensemble charges this film forward and solid action makes it an entertaining watch. If you catch it in theaters, I say wait for a weekday or matinée showing.

Gods of Egypt (2016)
Transformers of Egypt
Should be called Transformers of Egypt.
I don't even know where to begin when talking about this terrible film. This film already stole 2 hours of my life that I'm never getting back, therefore this review is not going to be particularly long.
First- The CGI us atrocious. So many special effects are laughably bad. My favorite is when Bek is trying to get where the gold is stored and swing from a rope into the bin that has all the gold. (You'll know it when you see it) Also the fact that Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau turn into mecha gods that battle each other. This literally good be a prequel to the transformer films. There's also the god of wrath who pumps himself up to gigantic size. Speaking of size it's jarring that the gods are larger than humans. It worked for films like Lord of the Rings, but here it is just awkward. The action goes from frantic jump cuts to over use of slowmo in seconds.
Second- The script is weak and riddled with clichés. Any problem the characters get in is easily fixed by movie magic. There are no rules for the characters in this world. They can go anywhere and do anything that gets them to the end of the movie. Also the amount of cheese is strong in the dialogue. Not a single joke landed for me.
Lastly- The only character that is slightly entertaining is Chadwick Boseman. He's in the movie just a little bit shorter than Gerard Butler. Whoever is Gerard Butler's agent needs to be fired. Every other character in this film is just going through the motions. That's not even mention the fact that the cast is predominately white in a film set in Egypt.
Please don't waste your precious time on this awful movie. Guarantee this will be the first box office bomb this year!
