The Terminal (2004)
Probably Spielberg's weakest film
This film is lazy and flawed, especially when you find out it is loosely based on a true story. This film would have been good in the late 80s or early 90s but as audiences are more questioning, there is a lot that doesn't fly. For instance why did they not get a tramslator in the first place. Victor can't speak English when he first arrives but manages to construct a faitly complex sentence when meeting Stanley Tucci's character the day after. It would have been better just made this a true story than commercial fictional story based on a true story. Even Tom Hanks accent doesnt hold the whole film. Shame as the cast was strong, but the storyline seems to have been written by a 10 year old.
Mob Land (2023)
Borefest
If you suffer from insomnia then this the perfect cure. The storyline is ok, but nothing new. So much pointless and uninteresting dialogue. The writers try to make Stephen Dorffs character interesting by making him asking questions of everyone he meets about what the wanted to be when the grow up and whether they envisaged seeing themselves in their current job. There is nothing clever or interesting about this. At the end Stephen kills Shiloh Fernandez after promising not to kill him if he does everything he asks and then decides to kill the guy who asked to him to kill Shiloh Fernandez. Why he didnt make that decision beforehand. Must have been written by a 12 year old.
Who Is Erin Carter? (2023)
Not bad but not great
It's an used plot from History of Violence or The Long Kiss Goodnight. The acting is average and I did get the impression that even some of the UK scenes were filmed in Spain, which I always think is lazy. At points it's like a 1980s action film where there is no explanation for things that happen. For instance after spends another night beating villains up and being beaten herself, she returns home and her family don't seem to notice that she has more cuts and bruises than when she left them the night before. It's watchable if you really don't have anything else to watch. I am glad that this is a limited series as the last episode did feel like it could have ended 10 minutes in rather than 40 minutes later.
Liar (2017)
Excellent show!
So many twists and sub plots. You will always think when you watch a series, whether this could have all been avoided from the original point presented to the viewer, and the answer is usually "yes", but in this case it is "no'". I have read some of the other reviews, which are disgruntled men. I am an alpha male who loved this! Liar is not just about the main villain being a liar, but about the supporting characters doing the same. It really does dig deep and make you think about your own relationships as it is true to life in aspects. I liked how the second season changed up the scenario. I would recommend this to anyone!
Mr Inbetween (2018)
Absolutely Brilliant!
On the final series and I wish there were more. This show has everything and also touches on the life challenges about being a parent and a carer. Ray is just a superb character. I watched Barry which is very similar but a bit more humorous but I think this shades it. Aussie shows are like British shows, where they are very down to earth but entertaining at the same time, barring Gangs of London and the "Drake" season of Top Boy. With the episodes being around 30 mins, this is an easy binge watch. I ripped through the first season in a day, which I only have ever done with Atlanta. This is a must watch!
FBI: International (2021)
Fictional FBI unit hotfooting around Europe
Absolute garbage! Most of the European characters played by Americans with terrible accents. The main guy is a terrible character who hasn't got a diplomatic bone in his body, which you would expect for his role. None of the characters speak am European language, which uou would think would be a requisite. Very little thought has gone into this. Its just full of lazy plots with not great acting. Another thing is they like to bend the rules without any repercussions, which at least is true to the way Americans are. I would be shocked if they make another season. I just don't like fictional situations when basing it on the real world. Gangs of London is another one which is just OTT.
From (2022)
Fantastic Show!
The original concept I have seen in a 1960s Hammer Horror film, but is very Stephen King esque. Reminds of Tommy Knockers, Salem's Lot and The Stand all rolled into one. Definitely do not miss this. I really hope a 2nd season is in the making!
Avoidance (2022)
Very Funny but at same time quite sad
I am not a huge fan of comedies in general but I thought I would give this a go and I am really enjoying it. Romesh is down trodden, weak and pitiful member of society, who does everything and anything to protect his son from harsh realities of life. A definite watch.
Pieces of Her (2022)
An OK watch, but don't put yourself out
Started off well with echoes of History of Violence and The Long Kiss Goodnight, and then it started to get confusing by jumping timelines to give the viewer the backstory. By the end, you feel a bit flat. Even by the 5th episode, you will want it to finish ASAP!
Jolt (2021)
Don't waste your time!
The film uses a very tried formula, which was good about 15 years ago, but this is just tiresome. I am surprised an actress like Kate Beckinsale agreed to this. It is supposed to have comedy, but just not funny. It has an obvious and over used twist at the end. It even finishes with an option for a sequel! I pray that this does not happen!
Howling IV: The Original Nightmare (1988)
Comical
I think this has some the worst acting I have ever seen. The storyline is fine but it's seems to have been dubbed which is odd as all the actors are English speakers. Check the voices of the boyfriend and the friend of the main character, as they both sound Neanderthals!
I Am Hooligan (2016)
Don't bother even pressing that play button!
I watched the first 2 scenes and switched off! The opening scene has American train sirens! I mean this is supposed to be a quintessential London hooligan film! The next scenes sound quality is so bad it's unwatchable.
The Guilty (2021)
Give it a miss!
Starts off well but it just never delivers on excitement or suspense. It is a very difficult premise to execute. I haven't seen the original but I will most likely watch that as I sure that will be better.
Cold Moon (2016)
Not sure what to make of this?
The preview was better than the film. Good cast but that was the only thing that was good. Entertaining? Yes. Suspense? No. Written by a 10 year old? Probably. As you know who the killer is, you spend the majority of the film backing the ghosts! A bit Gothika esque, but nowhere near as good.
Resident Alien (2021)
Simply Superb
I am not a huge comedy fan but I do love sci-fi. I have found this extremely funny. A nice blend of comedy and a sinister plot, as well the constant education of human emotions.
Stormy Monday (1988)
Bizarre film
I know it was American week in this film, but it is more like Newcastle has been colonised by the US. In one part of the film, every car parked up or driving is American. Even the patrons of the bars are masquerading as Americans. I thought this would be more like the Young Americans. I can see why this wasn't a popular film in the late 80s.
Wrecker (2016)
Direct copy of Duel!
Duel with hot women and a high performance car. The red station wagon was a homage to duel, which was a nice touch. However even the diner scene was literally the same as Duel.
Down a Dark Hall (2018)
I wish i knew what this was about?!
The plot is all over the place. I didn't havent a clue why was going on by the end! Uma Thurman plays a French character and she at one point starts speaking with an English accent. This film was not scary in the least and is rated an 18, but should be a 12. Don't waste your time on this.
United Nation Three Decades of Drum & Bass (2020)
As good as the One Nation raves were!
Loved this! This was very nostalgic for me. A must watch!
People Just Do Nothing (2014)
Quality British Comedy
This is like the Office but in a tower block. Being a pirate radio dj myself, this was just jokes. I can draw a lot of parallels with stations I have been on djs/mcs that I have known, though some of it is just for tv. Also this was filmed all around West London where i worked and lived. Cant believe it took me this long to sit down and watch it!
Twilight (1998)
Great actors in their Twilight years
This film was made in 1998 but feels more like a film made in 1988. Paul Newman and James Garner are clearly having last stab at the silver screen. Susan Sarandon and Gene Hackman trying to prop up the the withered Newman and Garner, and rookie Reese Witherspoon. I can't even remember this hitting the UK cinemas, so I can only assume it was a flop or straight-to-video. Plus there are elements of the racial stereotypes of Giancarlo Esposito being the incompetent wannabe ex-partner who is in awe of Paul Newman. Very dated and forgettable.
Bundy and the Green River Killer (2019)
Diabolical
I am British but this annoys me that this a British production which is very careless! If you are making a film about true life American crime, then employ American actors and ensure that the props are American! You can clearly hear British accents, and even the police ribbon is British! How this slapdash production was even released is beyond me!
The Birth of a Nation (1915)
Utter Rubbish
Don't waste your time on this rubbish. Land of the free is what this film shows it wasn't in the south.
Once Upon a Time in London (2019)
Every English D List Actor in this OK film
You will recognise most of the actors from every hooligan or British gangster film made in the last 15 years. This could have been better maybe with larger budget but you can tell it is low budget. One major problem with this film is that there is far too much music either drowning out the dialogue or spoiling a fight scene with no dialogue.
Nightmare (1981)
Some of the worst acting ever!
Seen a lot better video nasties. The gore and storyline are ok but the acting is dreadful, even for 1980s video nasty standard
