Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

It isn't great and not thought out

You can see all the reviews about how they lost their way of the original story in this movie. And it is true. I am going to speak of what the writers felt about how the dinosaurs were going to be in our world. So spoilers here:

They are all concerned about letting the dinosaurs live and thrive in our world they totally lose focus of what that decision would entail. Why would they ever think that having dinosaurs roaming our world would not devastate our animal kingdom. So it is okay to have dinosaurs who are not of the natural order come along and wipe out species (wolves, deer, foxes, lions, elephants, etc, etc.)? Wipe out our forests (the scene with the dinosaur eating branches of a Redwood) and our food supply? The writers decide in the end that ALL life on Earth has become so friendly with the dinosaurs that our animal species run and play and commune with dinosaurs. It is a Kumbaya moment which is absolutely ridiculous. It is a nice thought in a fantasy world. It would never happen. Our animal kingdom would be wiped out, but the writers want to sugar coat the existence of them in our world. Big let down. They failed in this movie and they did miss the point of the original movie. It is a shame.

Mulan (2020)

Giving a higher rating due to those who voted low- here is why

Okay. I understand why people are upset. I get it. It is a far departure from the animated movie.

You have to go in to this movie and not compare it to the animated. The actors were excellent and Liu Yifei is an excellent choice.

Why they put elements of music of the original animated makes no sense since there is just the basic storyline (even that departs from the original) in this movie. I do not look at it as a remake but a version of the folklore. There are moments when it is slow, but at the same time there are moments of beauty that lift the movie up. I think that Disney was trying to appease those in China to try to honor the true folklore and they missed the mark in pushing in trying to element any moments of just feeling good about the story. You do want Mulan to succeed. You do care. But at the same time you wish that there was something uplifting moments to pull you in. To really care about ALL the characters. Not just a few at towards the end.

I gave the movie a 9 but I would actually rate it a 6.5.

Just don't go in expecting the RL versions like they did with Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast which were more like the animated. This movie is nothing like that.

I did enjoy it, but I had to think outside the mindset to NOT compare it with the animated.

The Last House on the Left (2009)

Pulls you in

The original 1972 version was powerful, but this version pulls you in. You actually feel the emotion pouring out of the parents. The hurt and anger as they fight against the evil that has hurt their daughter. That has come into their home. It emanates from them. As does the malignancy of those that have tried to take from them It is overwhelming at times. But that is how it should be. This is not an easy movie to watch, but all the actors did a powerful performance. It could not have been easy to have filmed.

Child's Play (2019)

Not sure what to expect even though I know the original

I went in not expecting much. But I have to say that I flat out enjoyed this. It was different from the original and they took it on a fun ride.

I am giving it 9 out of 10 because I think it deserves better than the 5.8 rating. Overall I would give it a 6.5.

Just enjoy it.

The Magical World of Disney: Earth Star Voyager: Part 1 (1988) Season 32, Episode 11

Passable

The show could have had more potential. It would appeal to kids.

The biggest downfall is the sets. Poorly made and very dreary. Visually it is not appealing.

Overall it is an okay film that could have been better.

I love Robert Montgomery movies and pre-code. But this entry is lacking in too many ways. It is tiresome to the point of Robert Montgomery (who tries to be funny and fails) comes off as a nuisance at the best and a stalker at the worst. The movie moves very slowly and there is nothing likable about any of the characters. Just because is an old movie does not make it a 'classic'.

Life Begins for Andy Hardy (1941)

Different from the Andy Hardy series

I have must have watched multiple times each movie of the series. I have enjoyed them all. But, Life Begins for Andy Hardy has to rank up there as one of the best. It is a break from the formula of the series and that is what makes it stand out. It is serious and appropriate for Andy's first adventure into adulthood. It is also a first for Judy Garland's character Betsy's first serious role.

If you are expecting lightheartedness in this movie of the series you will either be disappointed or surprised. Either way it is memorable.

Frenzy (2018 TV Movie)

It is bad.

Sorry. But, this movie was poorly written. Poorly acted. It was as if no research was put into it. The implausibility was too over the top. I forced myself to watch it to the end.

I put up with a lot of things that don't make sense in a movie if the acting is fairly enjoyable and the movie on the whole is.This one doesn't do it.

I was rooting for the sharks. The sharks failed me.I could blame the actress (why they thought she should have been the leading character is beyond me), but that was just a part of it.

Incredibles 2 (2018)

Absolutely worth the wait.

Extremely enjoyable. The Incredibles is my favorite animation movie and have been looking forward to the sequel for a long time. It doesn't disappoint.

The scenes of Jack Jack are hilarious as well as Mr. Incredible dealing with home life.

Did not care so much for the new superheroes, but that is a small complaint.

Overall, a great job.

Pompeii (I) (2014)

Terrible movie

I have always been fascinated about the history of Pompeii. This movie totally ruined an event that was catastrophic and turned it into a boring story. It made the plight of slaves into a cliché. A ridiculous love story. And, the actual eruption into a blase event. The acting is horrible and you got the impression that the actors were doing it to just get a paycheck.

The 1980's T.V miniseries The Last Days of Pompeii was done better. If you can't find that to watch go on Netflix and watch a documentary of Pompeii. You will enjoy it more so.

Skip this one and if you did watch it try to forget it. It shouldn't be difficult.

The Darkest Hour (2011)

Deserves better than the low rating

I don't understand why such a low rating for this movie. That is why I gave it a higher rating.

The acting is decent. The concept was somewhat original. And, I have seen numerous sci-fi and horror movies and this one kept my attention. Unlike many other movies.

The movie takes place in Moscow with 4 Americans trying to survive an alien invasion. Nice change from all other invasions only occurring in America.

How they go about surviving is the interesting part with one technique (while they are in the apartment of Sergei) that is a reality for a real life apocalyptic event. Most people would not realize this unless they were into science, but for those that are it is cool to see it used in the movie. And, for those who are not aware of it should Google it. You might find it interesting.

I am glad that I ignored the low rating and watched the movie. Was not disappointed.

Rating I would give it is: 6.5 out of 10.

Furry Vengeance (2010)

Not as bad as it is rated

I would not have given it a 9 rating, but did so out of the ridiculous ratings of 1 and 2.

This is a silly show to be sure, but it is a fun movie for kids. Total slapstick and family friendly. Think of it as a cartoon with over the top silly moments that will have kids enjoying.

I think that some people feel that all movies have to be liked by adults and miss the point that sometimes they are just for kids. To give it such a low rating is not fair.

Brendan Frazer is fun and handled the physical aspects well. He doesn't take it seriously and just rolls with it. Brooke Shields' does a fairly good job as playing his wife. And, his boss is always hilarious in everything he does.

Give it a chance if you have kids.

Pan Am (2011–2012)

I really enjoyed the show

It is in a way a soap, so there is going to be multiple story lines, but if you have even half a decent attention span this will be no problem. It is a history lesson of how things were not so long ago and shows how women had to put up with crap just to do their jobs. But, for me it is a thrill of an era that opened doors.

When the jets became part of commercial flying the world changed. It was exciting! Being able to go to another country in a matter of hours. Meeting and seeing people from foreign countries you would never imagine getting to do.

As for the pilots being too young, that is true. Especially handling the new jets. I just ignored that.

The music is great. The period clothes are on the money. The pride of being a stewardess (that is what they were called then) was right on. The first episode was very enjoyable and I hope that it continues and has great success.
