The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
I am a somewhat disappointed Twilight fan
I felt the need to write a review of the film after reading some of the others written by obvious "non-fans" of the series. I love the story, have read the books over and over, and do like all of the films in their own way.
This instalment has some great moments, but also has some really poor bits that literally made my jaw drop! (Most notably the scene with the wolves where the packs break up.) There were always going to be parts of the book that were difficult to translate into film, so I am not saying I could have done a better job, but I feel that the films have almost become a victim of their own success.
There is a lot of CGI in the film - obviously needed for parts of it like the wolves and the bone breaking!! But I feel that there were other bits that would have benefited more from good film making than throwing money at the film.
I also think one of the potentially best scenes was left out; Eclipse left us with a classic lead into opening Breaking Dawn with a scene between Charlie and Edward, but alas nothing! Having said what I have, there are some fantastic moments in the film (the Wedding, Isle Esme, the birth scene etc) that do make up for the bad bits and will please most fans of the series. I just know I will be first in line to watch the next one!!!
Jeux d'enfants (2003)
A Quirky Treat!
This is a real "marmite" of a film - you either love it or hate it! I love it! I agree with the other reviews that it is not your typical Hollywood film - it's a very "european" film, reminding me of a few of Almodovar's films which are also some of my favourite. People I know have struggled to "get" the film - I agree with some of the other reviews that if you try and take this film too literally, it won't make sense - just go with it an enjoy :-) The music is great with the use of La Vie en Rose and other instrumentals! I nominated this film for my monthly book and film club and can't wait to see what the others say. I think it's going to be an interesting debate!
