I Care a Lot (2020)
Was okay, could have been great.
I really liked the plot on this, it was well paced and good to great acting, but there are just too many eye rolling moments.
Tasers don't do that. Unless someone falls and knocks themselves out, people do not lose consciousness. She would have lost that fight.
Kicking out the back window. Nope.
She's obviously a sociopath or something like that. I feel like she would have more concern/fear for her own safety when threaten with likely death.
Dune (2021)
Good but long for half a movie.
Very good but overly long for what is half a movie (it's been done many times before) and while the visuals are stunning, some of the more artsy cinematography and score seem little more than bloat to justify the runtime, which in turn justifies it being 2 movies $$$$. It would have made an awesome 3 hour single movie.
The Banana Splits Movie (2019)
Why not set in the 70s?
Apart for the first couple of minutes it lost all of the personality of the original show, I could have been watching any modern low budget badly made slasher movie. So why contemporary? I guess to draw in a younger audience, but 1970's setting would have been so much more fitting, in keeping with the original vibe while paying homage to all those 70's slasher movies. Wasted opportunity.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Like watching a 2 ½ hour episode from the 70's with 90's SFX.
Definitely the worst superhero movie of this generation, and quite possibly the worst big-budget movie I've ever seen. After the first WW and then Aquaman I had somewhat high expectations and really thought the negative reviews were people just fed up with the whole 80's nostalgia and perhaps it not being just as good as the first. But no, the movie really is that bad. The plot, the acting, the CGI, the dialogue, the stereotypical characters, pretty much everything.
To add insult to injury it has the bare face cheek to get all preachy. For about an hour we are subjected to creepy men constantly hitting on, or sexually assaulting the female cast. Then the plot, a retelling of the monkey's paw featuring a Trumpesque caricature if made by CNN, providing a cautionary tale to the average joe to be careful what you wish for. Hypocritical Hollywood preaching about misogyny and indulgence, while using sex appeal to sell the movie and make millions.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Slow steady decomposition.
Season 1 was a solid 9/10, and this show should have ended after season 3, unfortunately just like the zombies in the show, as time progressed we saw a slow steady decomposition. I tried to stay with it but the meaningless filler episodes just increased season on season, with very few stand out moments. With season 8 I gave up part way through. Time I'll never get back.
Season 1-3, rating 9/10
Seasons 4-8, rating 4/10
Seasons 9-?, please stop.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Is this really a 1 star movie?
So this isn't a great movie, but all the 1 stars and complaints about the science being way off? Really; what was you expecting? It's a popcorn corn movie! It's mediocre, but it is as advertised. if you're looking for something else watch Primer, Blade Runner or Moon (a couple of my favourites). So on a rainy Saturday afternoon, when I wanted some mindless fun, I grabbed a coke and a bag of chips and got exactly what I was expecting.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Initially showed great potential.
I can't understand why so many say this sequel is better? It's okay, but that's all.
I love watching horror movies that build up the suspense, and have you feeling anxious for the characters. Problem is most, including this take it a little too far, pulling you out of the moment and reminding you it isn't real.
SPOILERS The crooked man? Thought I was watching Beetlejuice, or Nightmare Before Christmas, not a movie trying to take itself serious. The demon nun? A couple of scenes were a little over the top. Almost became a monster movie. The finally, was just way over the top. Too many jump scares, which to me points to lazy script writing.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Lacks depth and character
This movie wasn't terrible, but unlike some of the other recent superhero movies won't stand up to repeated viewing. It just could of been so much more.
The good:
The pace of the movie was almost perfect. At no point did it wane at all, and at just over 2 hours was timed perfectly; unlike some recent 3+ hour epic superhero movies I didn't get bored.
Effects / CG, were obviously good.
The bad:
The plot was so bland it was almost none existent. I'm sure in a week I won't be able to recall it at all. I get that this is made for a broad audience of varying age and intellect. I'm no rocket scientist myself, but at least give me a little something to think about.
Harley Quinn was the biggest let down. I was expecting her character to be deep, dark and troubled by her demons. Instead we saw a comic version of this, where she just came off as a little quirky.
The joker was 'meh'. Jared Leto has some big shoes to fill, because of course we're going to draw comparisons to Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson. But this Joker lacked the depth and personality of the other 2. I understand his screen time was limited, so hopefully in future movies this will be expanded on.
The bad guy was just a generic bad guy, created for the sole purpose of giving the heroes something to fight. A villain's character should have depth with character and/or a back story that allows the audience into the mind of said bad guy. There was virtually no character development at all.
To sum up; considering the premise of super-villains / anti heroes vs super-villains, this movie was bland and lacked character.
Braveheart (1995)
Way to go re-writing history!
Had i wrote the review back in 95, I would have gave it 8/10. Because as a movie I really enjoyed it. However, that was back in 95 when I was fairly ignorant and just wanted to be entertained. Now, a little older and wiser the main issue I have with this movie is; it is a work of fiction masquerading as fact. You can't search William Wallace on the internet without it making reference to Mel Gibson's character. The movie is littered with blatant one sided inaccuracies; However I'm not going to list them here; many of the reviews have, so read some of them because I don't want to add spoilers. I realize a lot will be thinking I need to lighten up a little and just enjoy it as a movie... but Hollywood, it is NOT your history to be re-writing. How would an American audience react if the British made a movie about Vietnam, or the American Civil war, or the Indian Wars, and then depict all the American inaccurately as lying, murdering, rapists cowards. There wasn't a single honourable Englishman amongst them. As far as I'm concerned this was a missed opportunity to tell the story of William Wallace accurately while still making a great movie. William Wallace is a national hero to some in Scotland so to retell his story inaccurately is an insult to the ancestors of both sides.
Freeeeeeeeeeddddooooommmmmmmm!!!!!!!!! (Laughable).
Having just re-watched this and having vivid memories of The Patriot (same movie, only the accents differ). As a movie. A piece of fiction I would rate an 8/10. Because of the above it's a 5.
