Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker (2020)
Good and Bad
The acting, costumes and settings in this are impressive. However, the hip hop music detracts from the overall movie. Just so inappropriate in this setting. It's for this reason I gave it a 7.
Escape at Dannemora (2018)
Great Acting and Directing
Still can't believe this is on Showtime, which is not known for quality. Arquette is riveting as Tilly, and Del Toro is like a seductive snake. Excellent acting, directing and musical score make this mini-series entrancing.
The Cool Kids (2018)
Canned Laughter
The canned laughter after every single line is tiring. The show is NOT funny, just dumb and predictable.
One Day at a Time (1975)
Hated It.
Horrible show, not believable. Who would believe the two teenagers were sisters? They look nothing alike and the mother also looked completely different with red hair. Schneider creeped me out, hanging around all the time, like he was a pedophile.
Roots (2016)
Roots 2016 - I expected better
I watched the original in my 20s, and I remember how shocking and great the impact was. I don't think this new version can compare to the original Roots. The acting was not good. It felt rushed, and so many important details were left out, as if to get it produced and on the screen as quickly as possible. There were only four episodes. I didn't feel that we got to know and "feel" the characters enough to care about them. The only actor that did an excellent job of portraying some emotion was Forest Whitaker, who is an astounding actor. I was eagerly anticipating this new version, but was very disappointed in it. I expected so much better from the History Channel.
If Loving You Is Wrong (2014)
Pure Trash
I've never seen anything of quality from Tyler Perry, so I shouldn't be surprised about this show. This show is also pure trash, just like all the material that comes from Tyler Perry.
The characters have no morals, go behind each others' backs, bedding each others' husbands and wives.
One of the actors, Amanda Clayton, looks like she hasn't washed her hair in many days, with oily strands hanging in her face.
If these are the types of people Mr. Perry draws his inspiration from, he needs to get a better choice of friends. These characters belong in a trailer park, not the upscale neighborhood depicted on the show.
The acting doesn't get any worse than this show.
Splendor in the Grass (1961)
Last Scene
I first saw this movie as a girl of about 12 and never forgot it, and every time it comes on, I have to watch it again and always see new details. This is one of the finest movies ever made. It truly captures the feel of the time and location. Natalie Wood was at her most beautiful during this film and I actually felt the love and pain in my gut in the last gut-wrenching scene where she says goodbye to him, and in the car ride away from the farm, her eyes say it all. No actress could portray so much with only her eyes the way Natalie could. They don't make actresses or movies like this anymore. To this day, seeing a white dress will take me back to the last scene in this movie.
