Swiri (1999)
merely decent
I saw this movie on the recommendation of a Korean friend of mine.
(Original dub with English subtitles)
The movie evolves around a liquid bomb which the bad people get, and the good people try to get it from them as the bad people threaten the good people.
However, i have to say that although at parts the movie gets carried away. The movie is overall interesting and watchable but there are scenes that don't fit into the movie in general and hence cause the only disturbance to the plot. One of the those scenes is regarding love, whenever there is discussion about love of any sort, the acting/action seems unnatural. Plot twists turn out interesting although the plot itself is well worn out.
Gokudô sengokushi: Fudô (1996)
Movie that is overdone and nothing good about
There is absolutely nothing good about this movie, lets start from there. The plot is old and in order to make such old plot work, new things have to be added, and it was done, just with failure...
The scenes are bold, in a yakuza movies you expect Honor to prevail but this movie portrays a comedic approach and everything is not serious. Lots of cliché and twists which can be guessed minutes ahead i.e. the ending with the shooting, shooting of the father and the secret sharing part of two ladies which was a totally unnecessary scene because it didn't link to the main part whatsoever.
The shooting through the . part of a woman, is truly overdone...nothing more about that, it is just something that shouldn't be in such films, doesn't fit the genre.
Perhaps, Japanese cinema is not in my taste however, i did enjoy Beat Takeshi movies.
Versus (2000)
One of the worst movies i've seen in the last few years
Many good comments and reviews have been written about Versus on this web but also on other Asian sites so i decided to take a look with high expectations since it was named as MUST SEE in some websites.
after only seeing 10 minutes of the film, you can realize that this movie is just bad and it can't get any worse. I will not comment on the plot because it was weak but yet weak plots are not necessarily not entertaining.
Lets get started: The actors were really pretentious and none of them fit the characters they were playing. The bad guys tried to be really bad, which messed up their part but the protagonist was awful, he was trying to be cool as i don't know what Rambo? The tone he spoke with was intended to add to his cult but resulted in sissy kinda hero. The Bad guys were screaming and yet calm all the time which was kinda weird. The way they killed zombie's was probably.... Also worth mentioning, lousy acting, normal people would have acted better than those (not only, would have fit the role better as well)...
I usually don't write this much about a movie but this one. I mean the director was immature as well, the movie was shot in bad way which made even more boring than it already was. Colours were not thought of at all.
Cliché - the hero's black leather jacket and all that crap, where did that come from? Well if i missed something out I'm sure someone will put it in their comments although most people wrote positive about this movie.
Lei ting zhan jing (2000)
Unbelievable...
I read some of the comments on this movie and it was described as being very funny rather than serious. So i decided to take a look, as much as i didn't want to laugh, i had to laugh because it is hilariuos. Badly acted, and badly performed that it becomes funny. What is up with the jumps? they look more like flying... And with the motorbike sequences? no comments...The dialogs are as cheesy as it gets. The only good parts are with Mark Dacascos, which is the main reason for me watching this movie, but yet another disappointment from his side...
A movie with Mark Dacascos in production by Stanley Tong, should be of high quality in all directions, this one was a failing attempt.
Face/Off (1997)
Thumbs UP!
This is one of the few great movies made by John Woo in U.S. and it has all the characteristics of a Woo film. It is as good as The Killer, although the Killer is unique. Although many will argue that the plot is not realistic, nevertheless it is very interesting and really cool. If you are one of the those who think plot should be realistic then you should not watch John Woo movies in the first place, as it is not only about the plot. Main ideas of Woo films is to bring the Theme of Heroism and Brotherhood close to the audience. And he surely succeeds.
It should be noted that not all of John Woo movies are good. An example of these would be MI I and II. And the latest Paycheck

Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996)
Cornhulio rules
True, nothing more to say about this movie then what is already been said. Its a masterpiece of comedy. Funny through out the movie and great plot too. Beavis and ButHead are memorable especially the phrases which you get into your language such as 'communicate with the bunghole, i am Cornhulio'.
Cradle 2 the Grave (2003)
Man what are they doing to Jet Li???
This movie is one of the few U.S. movies, Jet Li has appeared in and it is not shocking after seeing Kiss of the Dragon and Romeo must die that it was lousy. It is hard to keep away from words which described it really well. The story of the movie is childish and has been used many times before. However, one thinks that if there are two great martial art experts in the movie (Jet Li and Mark Dacascos) it will be good, but man!
It is the same as Romeo must die, there is no difference, in fact the final fight is identical and lasts only 30 seconds or so.
Why is Jet Li still doing movies in U.S. when it is clear that the previous one's sucked? (excluding The One). It is his loss if he doesn't realize this coz fans are already in doubt that he will make good movies such as the Bodyguard from Beijing. Doesn't he know by now that people who enjoy watching martial art movies do not like rap or hiphop.
I don't want to mention DMX, coz I think you got my point! p.s am I glad I didn't go to see this movie in cinema. (I watched it on TV)
