Outlander (2014)
I know it's a fantasy show but........
People are to suspend all disbelief with slap stick comedies and fantasy shows but in certain cases, to make it seem somewhat real, keep up with the times, lifestyles of the characteristics of the period at hand. These characters go to and from 200 years of unknowing and extreme differences in the way of living.
First, the travelers know how and why to make/sew their own clothes perfect for a place that;s unimaginable, cook food barbarically, to perfection, perform complicated surgery with out resources of an kind, main characters - Jamie- is in absolute perfect 21 century fitness center/diet shape after being starved, beaten, raped , whipped, and more in a significant amount of time that would made him whittled down to death or close to it. He looks like a smaller, sculpted version of the Incredible hulk. There is too much more non-nonsensical traits to bore you with. Try to watch and forget about Wonder Woman and the Hulk acting like history scholars and medical wizards - see how long you last. First two seasons were unbelievable but engrossing, then the enhanced stupidy got to be too much. Thank you and watch something else. Lots or romantic/sex scenes but when you hate the characters, you must skip forward and hope for a story. Watch the first two seasons then make don't waste too much time waiting for the show to kick in, It really sucks if you keep watching.
1917 (2019)
10 Star Stupidity
The whole movie is about two young men sent on foot, in enemy territory, by a General, to dangerously attempt to give 1600 men a message when all He had to do was to have a message dropped from a plane(s) - that were already there. I realized that about 45 minutes in and stopped the insanity. Two hours of an implausible mission that could have been done in minutes.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Stupid, Stupid, Movie
The charactors are suppossed to be silent and never talk or even whisper - at least through the first 45 minutes that I could stomach this crap, but they make every other noise that could be heard from these high sensitivity to hearing things that they are hiding from. Maybe I should have watched past 45 minutes but if a movie is utterly stupid, inconsistant, filled with - for no good reason - why's and how's, it is garbage that can't be saved by a good ending. Too many goofs, plot holes, and every other IMBD catagory to file your mishaps and dislikes on. Stupid!
I don't know how IMBD comes up with the ratings of this and other shows but change is in order There are too many films that don't reflect the Star system applied by IMBD. In the beginning I trusted the stars but now, I seek others - including the great people who take the time to write your opinion on this site. If you read them all, the truth usually bleeds out. Thank you
The Shallows (2016)
Borderline awful
Another movie where I can't understand the IMDb rating and people who give it high praise. When I watch a movie I look for realism - could this happen or not. Unless it's a superhero, monster, etc. picture, I want something that makes me feel like it could happen to me. Shallows has many continuity and factual errors and a lack of story to make up for them. Read the goofs section on this site to see most of the screw- ups. For someone who was bitten bad enough to have gangrene set in, she was moving around like a kid in a pool and on monkey bars while dodging a shark that would have never been there, chewing on metal, to begin with. The ending was perfect for this movie - unbelievably stupid. Garbage but give a 2 for the first 2 minutes that I wan't disgusted yet.
Hap and Leonard (2016)
Hokey and lacks continuity and grit
It's not a total mess but there are too many inconsistencies for me. It's another show where there are unnecessary overblown action scenes in a non-action venture, many "why did they do this but not that" in similar situations, where there is one person causing horrible problems that everybody is against but follow along anyway for no apparent reason. The continuity errors are abound. There are scenes where anybody would know would never happen in real life. I can't figure out why directors put this crap out without realizing with a few tweaks and a little realism, they could have a good show. This series lacks the grit of a good crime flick and is hokey at times. 4 stars are only for a good cast - mostly. I won't be watching season 2 if there is one.
Stalker (2014)
It's not good
The series started out okay but by the second episode it turned out to be just like every other cop show - every crime solved and always a step ahead of the criminals, even if they are stalkers who hide. The series also has the other common element of one character that strings together all of the shows but the shows have nothing to do with each other. It gets boring after a while just knowing where each episode is heading and that the main victim of the stalker will be okay and will get justice. Take out the title Stalker and put in any other criminal activity and you have a series that you have seen time and time again. I thought this had potential but... I gave it five stars because the a lot of the actors are recognizable and good.
Horace and Pete: Episode #1.4 (2016)
Less drama, More comedy
I want to like this series, Louis CK is great as a comedian/writer and the cast in this is top notch. The show veers from the best part of it, when they are all talking in the bar about daily subjects here is my main complaint. In just the 4th episode, a couple too many long-winded monologues with just Louis and a non-show actress about - who cares. The third episode was a tiresome rant from his ex-wife for it's entirety with no comedy. Another thing that makes Horace and Pete so-so is that Louis is not involved in the bar conversations, he kind of sits in the background. Maybe it's just me but I wanted a funny new show with witty banter especially from one of the best current stand-up comedians, instead it's a mix of gas blowing woman and the above mentioned. Alan Alda is the best as a raunchy modern day Archie Bunker. Get rid of the drama and stick to what people expect - laughter and Louis. Thank you.
Horace and Pete: Episode #1.3 (2016)
Where's the show?
This series has great actors and writing, enough to put up with for just being shot in a bar. This episode, as good as Laurie Metcalf's performance is, is a bore fest. To hear someone drone on about pretty much nothing - for the whole show - while an excellent cast isn't even involved is awful. I paid to see the comedy Horace and Pete with Alan Alda, Steve B., etc., not a one or two man dialog that isn't fun or funny. I turned it off halfway through but will purchase one more episode to see where this is going. Any more of this crap and I'll move on. I don't understand the prior excellent write-ups unless some viewers don't expect what a comedian, who wrote and directed this, should be putting out on a consistent basis - comedy. If you think about the worst episodes in sitcom history they were always the serious ones - but after it has been on for years. This show is only three in and already going to that.
Mr. Right (2015)
Mr Right, Movie Wrong
I cannot figure out this movie. Let me start by saying that Sam Rockwell's character is a regular human being - not Deadpool or any other comic book hero. With that - He catches a shotgun round with his bare hand, hand gets bloody and then like nothing happened moments later. He tries to teach the impossible to Anna K. - catch large knives being hurled at you, she lnows she can't do it so he whips a French kitchen knife directly at her and she catches it followed by one after another. Then with no formal training, Martha (Anna) somehow becomes a 5 foot killing machine, a sharpshooting, martial arts bad ass. Mr. Right is a bit funny but nowhere near enough to make up for all of the nonsense. The movie makers could or should have made this either something close to reality or have gone the superhuman/comic book hero direction. I always wonder with these bad/stupid movies - isn't there a point in the filming process where somebody - actors, directors, etc. - turns to the other and says "STOP, this sucks".
