Housos vs. Authority (2012)
A very funny film which should have received greater exposure.
Having grown up around housing commission areas in NSW, this film made me laugh non-stop from beginning through to the end.
All the characters have been stereotyped to perfection, every line is hilarious and quotable. Just the look on Shazza's face whenever she is going off puts this film ahead of most Australian films.
Well done to Paul Fenech, the cast and crew. You pulled off a very funny film which should have received more marketing push / more support from Australian audiences.
If you do a Kickstarter or Pozible for your next project, let me know and i'll throw a $50 your way.
Thanks.
The Lords of Salem (2012)
A good film
This is a good film.
The best film Rob Zombie has made to date, in my opinion.
Beautiful Cinematography. Solid performances. Interesting story.
I had read the book prior to seeing this and was surprised at how different it was - although the film itself is a lot better than the book.
It is not very often you watch a film and feel satisfied having parted with your money to do so. This was one of those occasions. So thank you Zombie, Trost and the team for bringing this film to life.
I'm looking forward to watching it again.
8 out of 10.
(PS: I will personally fund your team to make Werewolf Women of the SS. Get it done!)
Maniac (2012)
Better than the original
In my opinion this is better than the original.
The characters are more interesting, the acting is better, the effects are way more realistic and intense. The only thing missing is an awesome shotgun scene.
I have watched it twice now, while both times I have not been blown away by the film itself. It has kept me thinking about Frank and what he must be feeling.
The way the director has crafted Elijah Woods performance is great. To make us feel sorry and remorseful for a man who is a 'Maniac' is no easy feat.
If I were to make this film, I would keep it nearly the way it is. Although I would probably milk the scene in which Frank is 'Betrayed' by Anna for a little longer.
Good job to all involved!
Evil Dead (2013)
5 out of 10 at best.
After reading all the positive reviews from critics I thought 'this must be good!'.
The critics have just proved to themselves and everyone else that they do not know what they are talking about.
The final scene is good. The rest, not so much.
The Evil Dead has a generic script, with absolutely no character development. You will likely only remember it for a few minutes after the film has finished.
Bruce Campbell and the rest of the crew were consistently hyping this film as the bloodiest film ever made. That is not reason enough to create a film, and besides they fell short of many Japanese Splatter films as well as most recent faux exploitation films.
However, I will say that for a young director it is impressive that he was able to craft something that looks as stylish as it does.
Evil Dead fans should see it and so should most people, just to support horror films making it to the 'big time'.
But please lower your expectations and do not believe the hype you have heard from clueless critics.
