Made (2001)
Not as cool as Swingers, but rent it for the reference
This flick wasn't as cool as Swingers. Vince Vaughn is put in the weak / dumb guy role, and that isn't his strength. Why does he have a fake gun at one point? We want Vince to be the mile-a-minute chatter box who is joking with everyone, sassing friends, and sweeping girls off their feet (think Swingers or Wedding Crashers). But it's cool in it's off-beat way and has it's moments.
It's great to see Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn together again. What you really want is a Swingers 2, but that kind of uniqueness is hard to repeat. Made is definitely worth a rental. Speed DVD it maybe (2x speed with high pitched audio if your DVD supports it).
Wedding Crashers (2005)
Great Vince Vaughn movie with his mile-a-minute banter
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are a pair of divorce mediators whose passion in life is sneaking into weddings to take advantage of the girls who are caught up in the wedding moment. Of course, they get their free food and appetizers too. The variety and diversity of weddings they crash is great. The DVD has deleted scenes which add to that too. Vince carries the movie, and I think most viewers want to see him at this best Swinger-esquire comedy lines (see Swingers).
I love their wedding crashers rules which says you can't use your real name and you have to be very outgoing. Of course, all this falls apart when Owen falls for a bridesmaid at a high-society wedding and wants to call off the antics.
The cameo appearance by Will Ferrell is awesome. His line, something like "Mom, I want some meatloaf!" just has you shaking your head. You'll love the step-up from wedding crashing...
The marketing for this was great - they even had a nice MySpace tie-in for awhile that had great Wedding Crashers video clips.
Swingers (1996)
Mikey's (Jon Favreau) phone call late at night to Niki just has you dying!
Vince Vaughn as Trent really made his break out role. Most people in high school / college had this smooth talking guy who always seemed to know where the party is and how to get the girl's number. He's a mile-a-minute jester who is trying to get a girl and be a good friend to Mikey (Jon Favreau). Mikey's phone call late at night to Niki just has you dying. For every guy who ever was lonely and "weak" -- that scene should be the wake-up call of your life.
Some of the greatest one-liners are from that movie -- "You're money, baby!" -- Buy the DVD and keep it in your library for when your guy friends break up and need to go to "Vegas Baby!"

Time and Tide is a combination of a fun date movie and a bit of "Swingers" like guy flick. When Rob (Christopher Heltai) is talking on the rooftop with one of his buddies, he goes over the dilemma of how do you know when a relationship is over or if "this is it". Rob asks if there is one person out there for us or many? I think many of us can identify with that - most of us had a high school sweetheart or a college girlfriend/boyfriend that if paths had gone differently, you could have married down the road.
It's great seeing Rob's character go through the ups and downs of the different girls he has dated in the past and tries to determine whether or not the beautiful Christina (Nadia Angelini) is the girl for him. She is such a great match for Rob, and has you rooting for her throughout the movie.
Great scenery of many vintage spots in Los Angeles too. Locals will recognize cool bars and locations throughout. Two thumbs up for Michael Carvaines and his latest film!

Sleep of Reason is a very cool movie. It's filmed mostly in an old house that's a perfect setting for the young actors who are trying to work on their band music while mysterious things happen to the characters. Lots of interesting references (I remember the "owl scene" in particular) that make you want to see it again. Two thumbs up for Michael Carvaines and his cast!
