Hai to gensô no Grimgar (2016)
A continuation of themes explored in Sword Art Online and Log Horizon
This series continuation of themes explored in Sword Art Online and Log Horizon.
Taking a mix of the two...pretend like there wasn't the big reveal at the beginning of SOA as to why they were trapped in the game and pretend like there wasn't the awkward shrug off every character in Log Horizon, that was like 'oh fiddle-sticks I got stuck in a video game,' and you have Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Not entirely sure how they got into this creative world, but here they are.
The art in the series is a 9 out of 10. The characters are clearly in their own character journey and while at their modest start-up stage in the first 12 episodes, they are entertaining and full of quirks particular to each character.
I am excited for the continuation of the series.
Toki o kakeru shôjo (2006)
Very Cathartic Watch
I highly recommend the movie for anime watchers. The characters Makoto, Chiaki, and Kosuke bring the viewers into a interesting, yet mundane life of high school. Makoto begins to experience leaping through time and as she does she journeys to find out more about herself and true love. All this to say the movie is a therapeutic and cathartic watch, especially with music from Kiyoshi Yoshida (II) (also worked on Sonic the Hedgehog). I like movies like this that bring you into atmosphere of peace. The plot is thorough unlike some anime and although there is minor action and no real fight sciences it's a successful modern piece of anime. Enjoy, the film.
I enjoyed Mamoru Hosoda work in Samuai Champloo, and look forward to watching Wolfe Children and Summer Wars.
I think the art in the films is scenic and serene, and though less dazzling than other films still has beauty of it's own.
Other films that I would consider as therapeutic watches are Secret World of Arietty by Hayao Miyazaki, and maybe one with a little more action would be Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I enjoyed Mamoru Hosoda work in Samuai Champloo, and look forward to watching Wolfe Children and Summer Wars.
Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)
Courageous and Creative Film Making
This was a brave courageous film to make. I can't say I would recommend this film for everyone. It's not a clean movie, it's about the underside of life, it's poetic, and it's jive lyrical style is for the creative mind. People want linear and they want Hollywood class A type entertainment. This is off the beaten path of films, and I think it's courageous creativity that so brings the characters and stories of Hush Puppy and her father Wink to life. They live in a place out by the sea in the Bayou known as the Bathtub. The film follows the rough journey of a father and a daughter living in the woods and seas of the bayou, the violence of nature and imagination of the child Hushpuppy will draw you into a world you might not walk in normally.
If you ready to get your feet muddy, and leave the clean linen of western culture movie entertainment, watch this film. I dare you.
Samurai Chanpurû (2004)
Artistic, Creative, Innovative Anime
I highly recommend watching Samurai Champloo for all anime and art fans. The story line is of a girl Fuu who meets Jin and Mugen. Jin is a disciplined and meditative character while his counter part Mugen is a reckless, wild, bastion who wields his sword and tongue like a hurricane wind. Fuu and the two samurai are on a path to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers, the series follows their journey.
The artistry of the show is incredible, and as a full time artist (www.ecstaticexpression.org) I was drawn in and kept looking forward to watching the episodes. Fans of the orient, samurai's and art enjoy the stories of Fuu, Jin and Mugen.
The Karate Kid (1984)
inspiring movie
This 80's flick carries a inspiring tone, and inner breakthrough comes for those willing to embrace the 80 music, and acting! enjoy this film! Mr. Miyagi is a character of wisdom and depth. Carrying the spirit of his father, he teachers Daniel to be still and see early in the movie. And truth is in what he sees from within. This is one of the many gems from the film. You will find yourself laughing both from 80's culture and poignant character development. I personally put myself in Daniel son's shoes and the movie becomes a treat. Daniels romance throughout the film is one of the constant moments of humour. I think anyone who is seeing this film for the first time better be ready for a roundhouse kicking' time!
