Deadloch (2023)
So far, meh
I'm a big fan of cop buddy shows, especially with women as protagonists. I'm only 2 episodes in, but so far it doesn't click. One cop is on the phone continuously with her wife. The other stomps around like a bull in a China shop, jumps to stupid conclusions, and continually uses ridiculous vulgaraties. Not seeing much to work with here. If Dulcie has brains, she's not allowed to show it because Eddie is too busy being an obnoxious idiot. You can stop reading npw. That's really all I have to say, but I'm required to come up with six hundred characters. So I'll ramble until I get to the necessary minimum.
Above Suspicion (2009)
Over the top
The characters are not well-drawn. Langton is an overblown, heavy-handed screamer with little sense of smart police procedure. Travis is fairly naive and blundering, with an occasional insight that is supposed to redeem her. That and her looks. (And what is it in British police dramas where the supervisor just barges into subordinates flats regardless of time of day or state of dress?)
The show is filmed well and is visually appealing. They maintain the moods very well. Just not one of the better British police dramas.
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022)
Nice work.
Christie adaptations for the screen rarely hold my attention, especially when faithful to the original work. But this has enough intrigue and dramatic tension to keep things moving in what might otherwise be slow moments. I think the acting is excellent, the sets are terrific and the scenery is wonderful. If you are looking for a dreary story where a little old lady sits in her cottage or a Belgian dandy twirls his mustache, pass this one up.
Single-Handed (2007)
Nice stories
He is truly single-handed. No allies in town, lots of behind-the-back dealings. But he always get the girl!
The episodes with Stephen Rea were a treat. I wish we could see more of him.
Sean McGinley is great as the local baddie.
Traces: Episode #1.2 (2019)
I will keep watching
I agree with others that the plot is quite jumpy in this one. A lot of plot elements, but they only moved forward a little bit. Except for the sudden relationship with Daniel. I can see how these elements will intertwine a lot in coming episodes. I really like the subject matter, forensic science, coupled with the elements of personal risk.
