Ted Lasso (2020)
Fresh, sweet, feel good, realistic.
Loved it. Humane, funny, fresh, well written, good acting from all, saw it in less than a day.
Loved the ending. Loved the characters and the plot which was so carefully written to every little detail.
Unpredictable all the way. An ode to human kindness. Which in the world we love in makes you want to be a better person. And bake good shortbread cookies.
Should have savoured it more by watching it more slowly. Perhaps there will be another season;
The Undoing (2020)
Had the potential but was ruined by bad acting slow pace and boring ending
Well... I heard such positive reviews from friends and I was in the mood for a great mystery thriller with a top class cast.
Acting was poor, safe for the kids and Donald Sutherland. Especially Hugh Grant was down right awful especially in the scenes where he had to show emotions. At least there he is at sync with his character. Nicole kidman, I was also telling my husband and read it in another review here had a plastic surgery which makes her look like joker around the lips.
The pace is slow, the characters to the most part are unlikable and I ended up simply not caring how this will end. Mostly I cared who will end up raising that little girl who is not loved by her father. And the father daughter relationship is one weird and implausible one. A father who is logical and sane and clearly wants to protect his daughter yet despite all his good sense he gives very good money to help her free her husband despite the fact the latter is in his mind most definitely guilty.
Now at the end, Hugh grant ends up being a total sociopath with whatever other syndrome he has, multiple personallity, bipolar, jekyl hyde, not sure, however is it perhaps a bit weird that he hasn't shown any symptoms of this prior of these events; and what about the hospital; why can't anyone tell Grace why her husband was fired and why is everything so hush hush and then this story never complete itself;
Many wholes and different threads which led nowhere.
Il processo (2019)
Well paced, suspense, interesting whodunit
I really enjoyed this one and I ended up seeing it in one day. I regretted that since I was like a zombie next day. The plot is interesting, the characters too. I thought it was well written, dialogues were real and it builds up suspense.
Spinning Out (2020)
Promising yet characters are so hard to like
I love ice skating so a series about my favourite sport which would include drama, romance, suspense and well .. ice skating, sounded ideal.
When it comes to series I can be somewhat picky. I loved the kominski method, sex education, broadchurch, frankie and grace, all varied and different.
Having watched the whole spinning out series, i realised that my main problem was I didnt like the leading lady or her family. I mean these women were not at all nice. They only cared about themselves and somehow this seemed to be ok. They were bad friends, bad parents, bad partners.... and this girl Kat, she was always with this stupid expression on her face. And i mean what is it with this girl thinking she can accuse someone of sleeping with an under aged girl with no hard evidence; especially after she has found out that this guy is actually a good guy really. Ans what is it with these stupid relationships between these three women: i love you, i hate you, i dont want to see you again, i m done with you, oh your my daughter and maybe i wasn't the best mother but... i think they lost it there. Seriously this is not how relationships work. Like for a 21 year old girl its normal to go live on her own yet her mom has a fit and starts throwing her stuff and medals away. Wow. And then whenever the mom gets the opportunity she yells at her daughter that she was the reason that her skating career was over or that she - the daughter was a failure - and then she tells a total stranger that she kept lying to herself about her skating career and that really it wouldn't go anywhere. And this has nothing to do with mental illness, this is about really bad and annoying people.
I could have done with the soapy aspects of the show but seriously these characters are just awful.
And what about Serena's dad; he comes back to Idaho tells everyone will stay for good, gets a place ! and the lands a better job offer that pays double and takes it. Bravo, great plot there. Who does that;
I could go on and on about how i wasted my time but just don't have the energy.
Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015)
Pure entertainment & lots of fun! Bah- ntastic all around.
So, I had invited my son's friends to do a joint paper for school. They are 9 and they like superhero6, how to train your dragon, that sort of thing. As I wanted to treat them to a cinema, this was the only option available apart from Cinderella, and that was no option for them obviously.
So, I booked the tickets and i was so excited as i had read really good reviews, and all day i was reminding them (my son and daughter that is) that today we will go to the sheep movie. By the time we got to the cinema along with 10 other people, my kids were fed up with the notion of the movie!
Once it started i realised how much fun it would be for me, but still i was not so sure for the other mums and the kids. This was a great animation film yet so different from the one we normally see. The plot was simple, but the execution was impeccable, everything was done with great humor right to the final details.
I enjoyed this film quite a lot and this is truly a children s movie for all ages. My three year old also came with us and she sat very content in her seat.
I left the cinema in a very happy mood, not haha or excited happy but sort of content and peacefully happy. And yes, kids and parents too enjoyed it immensely, especially the gentleman seating behind us who was laughing all the way...!
I want to bah bah all day now.... :)
Flight (2012)
One of the best films I have ever seen
This was of the greatest films I have seen. This is about a sick person who can not fight his demons, this is about addictions (it does not matter to me, which addiction it is), it is about compulsion. It is crafted beautifully and I felt so sorry for this guy and I could totally understand that due to his illness he was unable to stop , you feel his drive, his desire, his inability to stop. This is such a great film. I totally recommend it to everyone, and although it is not a happy film the after taste is positive. Do not see it if you want to see a feel good movie. Denzel Washington was in one of his best performances, what I really like about him is that he does not care to try different and more difficult parts , characters that may not be so likable.
Les Misérables (2012)
I can't stop thinking about it!
To me, Les Miserables, is one of the best if not the best musicals ever. I love it, the songs, the story, the plot, everything. So I was waiting so much to see it. In Greece it is not out yet, so it was a good thing I went to London a week ago.
I thought the direction was superb, scenery and cinematography too. Sometimes the settings were a bit claustrophobic in that the buildings were too close together. The duration of the film was just right I think, but they took out "Little People" which is my favorite and I was so sad about it!! I understand that of they left everything in, the film would have been 3 hours long.. but Little People, Out???
In terms of the cast. Hugh Jackman was superb! So convincing, and vulnerable and tormented soul, this is so beautifully depicted in the version of the musical. His voice was also very good, must say i was a bit surprised. I would love to see him win an Oscar for this performance despite the odds leaning towards Daniel Day Lewis. Anne Hathaway as Fantine was also very good, she has received a lot of publicity for this films, on one hand rightly so on the other she is a tiny bit overrated if you ask me. Russel Crowe was also good, he has a different type of voice, but still I liked it and I am sorry that people feel he was not good. As an actor he is not strong on pronouncing clearly his words and i think this is even more evident on a musical while he sings but for the role of Javair he was good, solid. Marius was also really good and he has a fantastic voice, very strong and soft at the same time. For me Amanda Seyfried was a disappointment. Her voice was so high pitched that I thought it can't go any higher without actual screaming!
The most brilliant thing of all, was how the singing happened together with the acting and this was amazing. It spoiled a bit my tendency to sing the songs as I have learned to sing the musical as I have seen it, and now there are no pauses in the songs, as it is incorporated in the acting - but this was so refreshing, it gave the film a whole different perspective to it, a new edge! I can't wait for the film to be released in the theaters in Greece so that I can take my daughter and my mum to go and see it. I will leave the lads behind. Mind you I will chose a matinée viewing in order to avoid crowds. I really want to enjoy it again.
