Maybe the worst 'film' I've ever seen
11 April 2024
No seriously, it's difficult to explain the abysmal mental state you will get into trying to figure out why on earth you're watching this film. It's about 1.5 hours too long, and the whole story, voice-acting, animation is just...off and bad.

The story is bad. The acting is bad, the animation is bad. The actors that got paid to do the voice for this movie should be thanking their lucky stars they were able to make a single solitary dime off of this film.

My advice to anyone on here that purposely or accidently stumbles into this piece of mediocrity and sadness, to please find something, anything to do with 2 hours of your life. I'm begging. Don't do it.

My sacrifice is your gain. Take the advice of someone who's already taken the hits for you. Don't watch this movie.

I don't know how this film has a 5 star rating, it looks like maybe the reviewers were people involved with the film, likely. That is the only possible explanation because this movie is a dumpster fire of nothingness.

I'm going back to church
29 October 2023
This movie was so convincing of the existence of the evil that you'll have to excuse me while I start re-attending church services. Toni Colette's performance carries this remarkable horror film as it transports the viewer into an almost unimaginable nightmare. I will not be sleeping for a while.

Gabriel Byrne keeps the story grounded with a sobering and believable portrayal of the husband trying to keep an unraveling family together. You, as a viewer will not be able to hold it together forever, watching this instant classic. I suggest you hold your date's hand a little tighter during this one.

I See You (II) (2019)

Outstanding horror/mystery/thriller
28 October 2023
When you're unable to predict the outcome, deep into the movie, and there are so many lingering questions, but the movie ultimately answers all of them...you have a WIN! This is a tense thrill ride, where true understanding and context are evasive until absolutely necessary. Helen Hunt was the draw, but certainly not the only great performance in the gem.

The older and younger actors complement each other well, and the plot is much thicker than we initially realize. There are slight moments of frustration, like WHY, but there's a reason you don't have the answers. The carefully crafted plotline will keep you guessing until the sweet bitter tense ending.

Absolutely delightful 🔥🔥

I was just telling my supervisor at work about this series. I just love it. It is incredibly violent, and very much action driven. It is about the son of the strongest creature on earth.

If you're looking for cerebral anime, this isn't it. This is viewers that are looking for pure entertainment and martial arts nerds. Enjoy the ride! It's fun!

Let Him Go (2020)

This movie is nearly perfect
1 January 2022
Costner and Lane must have just loved this story and script. Nearly every line out of Costner's mouth is delivered perfectly and written with exceptional minimalism. Diane Lane is remarkable. The cast is aces all the way around.

Harkens to Unforgiven, or Yuma. Ordinary, good (and strong) people put into extraordinary circumstances because of loss and love. We need more stories like these, that are hard but authentic.

It is possible that I cried multiple times during this extraordinary and meaningful film.

Inuyashiki (2017)

Wow, Inuyashiki, totally unexpected and engrossing!

Warning: Spoilers
This is an insane 10-episode series based on a manga (which I've never read). It is incredibly dark, incredibly visceral, and at times incredibly emotional. This is a good series, probably even a great series, as I finished it two weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. There are parts that are wholly and completely bananas, like Clockwork Orange level out of control, but the story has layers and it is always more complicated than it seems.

Inuyashiki is probably the most interesting character, even though at times you're straining to deal with his intense level of emotional vulnerability. He defies most conventions of your typical super-hero makeup, as he's much older than your normal protagonist.

I would say this series is not for children, and really it's not for some adults either. If you're not familiar with anime or manga, you might want to start with something lighter, easier to watch. That being said, if you're all-in with how dark anime can get, strap yourself in, this one's a ride you will remember.

Inuyashiki is an unlikely story about and an unlikely hero, and it's certainly worthy of attention.

Heroic Age (2007)
10/10
Anime Space Epic
7 April 2011
What an amazing series. Really, I mean there are things to dislike about it for sure, for instance the score can get a bit repetitive and the battle sequences can last entire episodes (not necessarily a bad thing). After all, the battle sequences are very elaborate and the animation is stellar.

There are elements of different series you may have seen, and liked or not, that you might compare with Heroic Age. Series such as Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and all the complexity of a solid anime drama.

Seriously, don't miss out on this series. You won't regret giving your time to watch it. The English Dub is just about the best I've ever heard for anime that isn't a feature film. Usually, when I watch anime I prefer to watch with English subtitles and the original voice cast, but the subtitle text was difficult to make out, with a bright background. The English voice cast is superb on this one. Watch it on Blu-Ray, it will blow your mind.

Don't listen to me, watch and determine for yourself that Heroic Age is anime of a high order. Always venture outside the Star-way.

Lights Out (2011)
10/10
Refreshing new drama
3 March 2011
I started watching this show in a hotel room on a business trip to Dallas. I was instantly hooked. This show is about a man, a good man, and a great boxer, trying to keep his family together at all costs. The acting is first rate and the casting was spot on.

This show is also about boxing, as art. Boxing itself is a character in this show and the folks at FX do a great job of really making boxing quite compelling.

I must say that at the ripe old age of 28, Lights Out has me interested in boxing, really interested for the first time. Yes, it's brutal, but the show owns up to that and is unflinching in its portrait of this savage and beautiful sport.

I'm interested to see where the plot goes and how long FX can milk the whole 'comeback' aspect of the storyline. It has the potential to evolve into more than that. FX is making great shows and Lights Out is a testament to their creativity. You won't be disappointed with this one. It's a hit.
